Renovations at Explorers Hotel

I've just read a few negative reviews on Tripadvisor concerning major renovations going on at Explorers Hotel at the moment. We're due to stay there in early July and I'm worried about pool closures, noise, disruption etc. There's no mention of any building work on their website and my email enquiry hasn't been answered yet.
Just wondering if anyone knows how extensive the renovations are and when they'll be completed?

Well I'm here right now and it's the area where the pizza place used to be near the soft play. The pizza place has just moved and everything is still open. The pool was closed for a short while yesterday. Part of the reception has also been closed off.
Obviously email them about July I've no idea what it will be like then. I'll read trip advisor as I'm not sure what people are complaining about we've not had any issues .

Thank you! I usually take Tripadvisor with a massive pinch of salt but 1 person described the hotel as a building site, another said they got a headache from the building noise & it was also mentioned that the coffee shop, shop & pool were closed for extended periods of time.

Just received a reply from Explorers, here's an extract:

"We have noted your concerns about the negative reviews that you saw on Tripadvisor regarding the renovation works. We were actually in the process of refurbishing some public areas which might have caused several inconveniences but please be assured that we did it to improve the comfort of our facilities for our valued guests.

We can ensure you that the main works will be completed before July and that all of our facilities will be available so you can benefit from all the improvements that have been made.

The entire team is looking forward to welcoming you."

I don't mind a bit of disruption, the work has to be done sometime - I'm just glad the pool will be open!

Well I've read the reports and the very last one is very rude and incorrect! I don't know what people expect sometimes. The only niggle for me is I think they should of mentioned the renovations before we arrived, wouldn't have made any difference to us but would've been nice to have known and given people the opportunity to cancel if they wanted to.
All the facilities were open, some for shorter periods but as we only use the hotel as a base we weren't put out at all. We never heard any noise either. We used the pool twice once in a morning and once in the evening with no problems and there were two
Iifeguards on duty both times. Just note that males are now not allowed to wear swim shorts and the rule is enforced too. They do have machines where you can buy tighter fitting trunks!

I'm glad the renovations didn't upset your trip too much. I also agree it would've been nice to know in advance. Like yourselves we intend to use the hotel as a place to sleep & for the kids to have a swim.
I heard about the swim trunks situation & bought some cheap ones at Penneys/Primark. I think DH is secretly hoping the pool will be shut while we're there! )

Please explain to me about the swim trunks and males situation. Are only bikini speedo type allowed or are the tighter, boy cut allowed? My teenage boys have said they are not going in the pool if they have to wear bikini type speedos...and it seems such a pity as we booked this hotel just for the pool.

Hi I just replied on the other thread but yes the rule is new and enforced . They have a vending machine with the correct swimwear if people need them .
They can either be the speedo style or the cycling shorts style.
We weren't aware before we went as last time the rule wasn't in place before .
My teenage son was not impressed either. We ended up getting him a pair from the machine. But when you get to the pool everybody has them on so it wasn't so bad.
It's quite a common rule in France.
