My AP expires before my DDE. Do I need the new AP number to renew the DDE? Do they ask for it?

I just renewed my DDE yesterday. They asked for the AP number.

They didn't ask for the number with me but somehow it was already in the computer. So they may be linked so they can determine if your has expired yet or not.
