Renewing AP at a higher level than current AP

I called yesterday to renew my AP (seasonal). I wanted to ask if I could upgrade at the preferred level to get the extra 6 months instead of the extra 3 months and the TM said yes and checked my pass and price. She told me my new pass would expire November 1, 2020. She said I would have to get a new card during my next visit before going in the park. My old pass expires on May 2. Since I’m going on May 2, will my current ticket still get me in the park. I was hoping to avoid the outside window and go to guest relations inside the park. I know you have to activate your pass by using it my April 4th to get the extra months, but was told a renewed pass is already activated. She confirmed my expiration date and knew I was not a Florida resident. I hope she was correct about the expiration date and that I did qualify for the extra 6 months since I was renewing. I paid in full.

I never got into this situation when I was a AP, but I'll say maybe? I know this is a different company, but for example, my Disney AP continued to work even though I renewed my pass, but didn't get a new one yet right away. I didn't get a physical new one for a couple of months. Your pass, as I would imagine mine has certain dates on it and essentially when you give your pass for discounts, free parking, ect. it is eligible until that date expires. That's essentially the reason why they encourage and get new passes mainly to prove yourself as a current AP holder not only to gain access, but to receive discounts and other treatment.

That being said, someone will have to answer this one. As I recall renewing / receiving my new passes outside the parks while at USF/IOA.

If you have already paid for your upgrade over the phone from seasonal to preferred. You will need to stop at guest services before entering the park to get your new preferred AP card.

If you wait until May 2 and your Seasonal expires that day. You should be able to enter park and go to guest services to pay to upgrade to preferred, but that deal for extra 6 months was supposed be up in April unless they extend it.

Yes I paid yesterday the renewal rate to renew my AP, but at the higher level. So even though my seasonal card expires on May 2, I’m a preferred card holder now?

Btw, that’s exactly the scenario I was stuck in not being local. If I waited I lose the promotion. So when I called yesterday to renew I expected them to tell me I could not renew at the higher level. I didn’t ask to upgrade because I was told that you can only upgrade in person.

This what I did last March. Everything worked great. I went from seasonal to Premier. I had to ask the person at the parking booth to please scan my pass after she tried to tell me it didn’t include parking. When she scanned it it came up correct. It worked fine for park entry. We didn’t go until August on that pass, but with the renewal discount and extra 3 months I thought it was a good deal.

Thank you for sharing your experience doing this too. I guess I’ll find out when I get there the end of the month.
