Renewing Annual Pass

Our AP's expire Feb. 2013. We are DVC owners. We plan on renewing. In order to get the renewal pricing, how far in advance do I need to purchase them? We are not taking advantage of the new PAP, as we do not use the waterparks. I also heard that the shopping discount will also be lowered to 10%, just like the regular AP's

I think your deadline for renewing is 30 days after your current AP has expired. The expiration date of your renewed pass will be one year from the expiration of your existing pass. The current price for a renewal is $385 plus tax.

Depending upon your travel dates over the next two years, it might make sense to consider the discounted PAP. It's only $14 more than the cost of renewing your existing AP and your year of use would start when you activated it.

Actual renewals must be done during the window that begins 30 days before the end date of the existing pass and ends 30 days after. The PAP if purchased within the next week can be activiated anytime in 2013 and costs about $14 more than the AP renewal and thus if you are not going until later in 2013 you may want to consider it as it would give you a new start date into your next round of APs (if you have a PAP you can renew to an AP at the discounted renewal rate for the AP). The PAP has a 20% merchandise discount that is good anywhere in WDW; the AP has a 10% discount only for some stores in Downtown Disney. According to some sites Disney is changing the discount Jan 1 to 10% for all PAPs and APs applicable throughout WDW and thus it is improving the value of the AP while diminishing the value of the PAP particularly if you pay full price or even the usual DVC PAP discount price for a PAP.
