I have a renegade weeping cherry tree. It's a real beaut.

The first layer of branches sweep the earth gracefully, almost daintily. Such a poetic lyric when in bloom.

The second layer of branches stick straight up like cowlicks on a boy's head of hair...thick, thick limbs with branches climbing to the sky.

This layer's branches don't look like they will ever fall. Will they? Anyone have any idea?

In the meantime, I have a schitzophrenic tree monster that doesn't know whether to point up or point down.

Anyone else have a weeping tree that looks like this?

Quite frankly, it makes me want to weep.

Not exactly the way it's supposed to be, now, is it???

OK..Gina...i just learned all about this...you need to go out...right now, and cut all the branches off that are going up. Weeping cherries are grafted about 5 feet up. You can see the graft, it looks kind of like a knob and the bark is different above the graft. The branches that are sticking straight up are ones from the tree below the graft and will never weep because that tree isnt a weeper..

amid chaos is right. We had the same problem with our tree. Now we know to trim those branches that are sticking up.

Thanks, buds. This is not the answer I want to hear. I have more tree on top than on the bottom and a pretty thick piece of trunk heading up to the sky.

*sigh* and I had such hopes for this tree......

Gina, you are not alone. My weeping cherry tree looks exactly like yours!!
I remember talking to you about it last year!! I'm bummed now. Why didn't the people at the nursery tell us??
I'm going to show this to DH.
