As a newbie I am wondering how my husband and I will get from Orlando Int. Airport to the Disney Contemporary.

Also- how would we get to Universal Studios?

Do they have shuttles or would we need to rely on taxis? Anyone know how much either would be for the above mentioned trip? Thanks so much!:D

Edited to add: see below for new question:o

Hi there!

The Mears shuttle will take you to your hotel from the airport however the van will stop at other resorts along the way. If you don't mind the longer ride, Mears would be the most reasonable.
If you don't object to spending a little more the towncar services such as "Cartier" are fantastic. They are waiting at the airport when you arrive, drive you to a grocery store to pick up supplies for your room, and then to your hotel. The cost for this runs in the neighborhood of $75.00 round trip. If you can afford it this is the best way to go.
As far as getting to Universal, Mears would be your best choice.
Call 24 hours ahead to find out what time the shuttle will arrive at your hotel. I think it costs around $11.00 round trip.
Have a wonderful time!!!!
:D

Thanks capegirl for the info. Would the same hold true for Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. I just switched reservations from the Contemporary and was wondering if I would still be able to utilize the Mears shuttle you told me about! Thanks!;)

I believe to get from a Disney resort to Universal, you may want to use their Star Shuttle. Call Universal and they'll give you more info.

And yes, it actually will pick you up at your Disney resort.

Mears goes to all the Disney resorts. The only thing is that they may stop at several before they get to yours. Also the line at the airport can be deadly.

You will enjoy Coronado Springs. We stayed there 2 years ago. It was wonderful. We were going to stay there again, but decided to try CBR.

You may want to look at the transportation board. All of the ways to get back and forth, are discussed.

Have fun:D

How many in your group?
A town car may be cheaper than Mears, depending on how many in your party.
It's just DH and I and we stil use a town car. We use only WDW busses otherwise. And with a town car service I arrange for a free half stop at a Disney outlet, right outside of WDW. :bounce:
That and the personalized service is hard to beat. :)

How comfortable would you feel with renting a car? The cumulative costs of the airport shuttles ($75RT), Universal Shuttles ($30RT), plus tips and any other side trips you might want to make, could very well equal the cost of renting a nice, comfortable sedan. With discount codes found on www.mousesavers.com, you might be able to find a compact for around $129/week.

We always rent a car (could ya tell?) and have found it very easy to navigate around WDW and Orlando/Kissimee in general. There are lots of well marked signs and many places to stop to ask directions if needed.

You can still use the Disney transportation to visit WDW parks during the day. But a car is really more efficient if you want to resort hop and dine in some of the best restaurants at WDW.

Besides, having a car at the Coronado is almost a neccesity. That resort is so large that you may want to drive from your assigned building to the front of the resort - where the restaurants are. There is also a trick about using a certain bus to get to the lobby entrance (last stop before leaving for parks) and another bus that stops first at the lobby before circling the rest of the resort. Ask about that when you check in.

DVC California is making a good point. We as well always rent a car and frequently use codes at Dollar. I'm never been disapointed with renting out of the Orlando Airport and we always seem to make good use of the car.

If you want to play mini-golf, visit another resort or just get out for an hour or two and relax, it's the way to go.

Last trip my wife and I spent two hours just touring the new construction around WDW, the sub-divisions, etc......gee, can you tell we may be moving that way when we retire? LOL

Agree that going off site a car is almost necessary. A hassle. But necessary. All that town car service could cost as much as a rental.
We have done a rental car once and it was a pain. We were glad to turn it in. But others swear by driving around. Just personal preference.
