We are going to WDW in March. We are renting DVC points from a friend for 5 nights but I need a hotel for the night before our stay and the night after our stay. Hotelkingdom.com has the Renaissance World Gate for $44 a night during our trip. Has anyone been there lately and what was the hotel like? We will be arriving late the first night and we will also be at a theme park til late the last night so we will only be using it for sleeping. Any thoughts? TIA

I was there in May. It is a fine place to stay. Two 7 story towers with a pool courtyard in the center. There is another pool off to the side of one wing. The rooms are nicely (though not my style) decorated and comfortable. The bathroom is small though functional. Some of the rooms on the north side have views over toward the AK and you can see the Tree of Life sticking up. Service was good and it was quiet. I also stayed here in 2000 when it was a Doubletree hotel. Renaissance has let the property slip just a hair. While everything was clean it didn't look as fresh as before. I have used Priceline and Hotwaite to get this hotel. It is worth up to $89 or so IMHO.

Thanks for the warning Smart Cookie. I think I might look elsewhere.

Great! I have this hotel booked through Priceline. I wonder if I am out my money?

Though the service could have deteriorated in 6 months I doubt the hotel has gone that far downhill. If you used Priceline you can't get your money back though I have read of a few people who had major problems and got credited. It is to bad this place is being so badley managed. It is a nice place in a great location.

I just called to confirm my reservation through Priceline, the resort is changing as reported to a Hilton. Hopefully this will make it a better resort.

I stayed for 10 days last December and had a nice stay (bid off of priceline). I have also stayed there when it was under different ownership and can tell you that the management has let it slip a tad but nothing to severe. We did have a few small problems with our room the first night (checked in late on Thanksgiving weekend) and got the last room left. We advised the clerk the next morning of the problem with the closet mirror doors (they slipped off track before we got in room) and we couldn't get them back on the track right and the safe battery died after using it once. We were on the first floor and had the very last room at the end of the hallway which was convenient as we parked right outside that door and could watch 3 sets of fireworks going off at Disney. However, the room had a few ants by the window that first night. The next morning we let the clerk know about the problems and all were fixed within about 20 minutes. Two ants did come back by weeks end but we can't have everything and they kept to the window ledge. Otherwise room was clean and didn't smell (even though we were in the smoking section and we are not smokers). Used pool and hot tub, rented movies and stored plenty of drinks in that icebox. We also picked up a few snacks from this little food area in the hotel. If they offered me $90 per night to stay here, I wouldn't pay it. However, it frequently comes up at $35 to $45 on priceline and I felt that it was worth it. We also washed clothes here which I think was $1.50 per load in each machine.

Let me know if you have any questions.
