Hey all,

I booked my hotel reservations for my 10/24/2002-10/28/2002 trip through one of those websites that gives you a price range and then picks your hotel for you. I ended up getting the Renaissance Hotel at Maingate Disney. I think I have heard bad things about this hotel.

I know there are a few Renaissance in Orlando. This is the one that is on 192 and is 1 mile from Disney.

Has anyone stayed there and what is wrong with it?

Thanks,

Kermit

We stayed there for 1 night last May and it was an okay hotel. The reason I say this is that we usually stay at the Wyndham on I-Drive and it is much more kid-friendly and overall a much nicer place. The pool at the Renaissance is somewhat small and we're used to the larger pools and grounds at the Wyndham. It was a clean place, though, and probably won't disappoint you, but we prefer the Wyndham (and we usually get them for the same price thru Priceline - $30.nt).

We'll be staying there as well (a day or two of our vacation will overlap with yours) and I have seen both the good and the bad. I have yet to see anyone complain about the cleanliness of the hotel and to me that's #1. Most just say it's not AS GREAT as the one near Sea World but I haven't seen any horribly negative comments about it. I honestly think it depends on the kinds of hotels you're used to staying in regularly. I'm sure it doesn't have Disney magic (and maybe that's why some hate it) but I'm also sure it's much better than a Motel 6. It's a big winner on Priceline, which is how we got it. I'm looking forward to my stay and I hope you are too! Have fun!!!! :)

We stayed there last year for two nights thru Priceline. We enjoyed our stay. We didn't see anything wrong with the hotel at all. Its a big hotel too. Nothing fancy, but it was clean, the staff was friendly & I'd stay there again. Take the back way to WDW on Sherbeth Rd. The staff can give you directions. Its much quicker than getting in the 192 traffic. When we were there construction work was ongoing on 192 so it was a lifesaver. Have fun. I haven't heard anything bad about this hotel either.

Hi, I just returned from a stay at the Rennaissance World Gate (got the reservation on Priceline for $35/ night). For the price that I paid I was very satisfied with this hotel. The room was a fairly decent size with 2 dbl beds, a desk, 2 straight back chairs, a large closet, more than ample drawer space, an entertainment center with a built in fridge and a small coffee maker, iron and ironing board. The bathroom was quite small, the sink area was nice sized and the garden tub was nice but there is very little standing room in the bathroom. Overall I was pretty satisfied with the cleanliness of the room except for the carpet which was quite dirty - not visibly, but it was quite visible on my son's feet after he spent an hour walking barefoot in the room. I should also mention that I had a first floor smoking room near the pool - it seems that hotel rooms near the pool usually have dirty carpeting since people are often times still dripping wet when they return to their rooms. The pool was not large by any means but it was a nice free form shape and usually we were the only ones in it. The hotel was not crowded at all - I only saw about 20 - 30 other guests while we were there. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the pool, whirlpool and surrounding areas. I wear contact lenses so I always swim with goggles on and this was by far THE cleanest hotel pool that I have ever been in. In fact we transferred from the Renn. World Gate to AKL and the Renn. pool was far cleaner than AKL's. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The lobby area is nice - if the worn furniture had been replaced I might have called it somewhat fancy. We used the hotel's shuttle service twice - it doesn't have a very convenient schedule - it only runs twice in the morning - once to AK and once to Epcot and it picks up twice in the evening at Epcot. I really liked the shuttle because it had comfortable reclining seats, air and light panels like on an airplane and a few drop down movie screens - the driver played Disney movies. The shuttle ride to Epcot only took about 15 min and there were usually less than 10 people on board. I really enjoyed the comfortable ride back to the hotel - even though it has limited runs I thought it beat waiting in line for a Disney bus with a 50% chance of standing at park closing. Just in front of the hotel - about a 4-5 min walk was an IHOP restaurant and across the street are a small supermarket, a Ponderosa, and a few misc. stores. There are also a McDonald's, a Denny's, a Black Angus steakhouse, an Omelet house and a couple other restaurants nearby. On a side note - half of the hotel was closed down and under renovation - I discovered this when I went looking for the 2nd pool which by the way is not open for use. I believe it is the south tower that's currently closed. All in all I would definitely stay here again for a priceline price. Oh yeah - almost forgot - I am very picky about hotel bedding - usually I find something on the bed soiled and have to ask for clean linen...I was impressed with the cleanliness of all of the bedding - and the triple sheeting to boot!

I've stayed there back when owned by doubletree. Well done rooms, avg pool, friendly staff. I've heard others give it the thumbs up even after the ownership change.

You can find information on Priceline thru TravelSheryl's website, www.biddingfortravel.com and there is a link at the top of the page to connect to Priceline. It's a hotel door with keys and you just click on it and it will connect you to Priceline. Make sure you read the FAQ's there first because they are very important and remember the PRiceline reservations are non-changeable and non-refundable. Make sure before you bid!
