Remy Wine Pairing

In April we will be on our first cruise on the Dream and plan on dinner at Remy one night. That is fully agreed.

My question is on the $99 wine pairing. For those of you that have done this, is it a good value? For that much $$ I can buy a decent bottle. (Paying corkage isn't really an option as we're flying from left coast with carry on)

Are they more pours or are they more tastes? Are they highly rated wines or Lassiter vineyards. (Nothing wrong with John Lassiters wine except when it's $25 a half glass).

I really want to be sold on the wine pairing. It just seems a bit over priced. (I think the wine pairing at Napa Rose is $60.)

Sorryz if this is a strange question. It's just dinner is $75. It seems strange the wine pairing would be more)

Thanks

I did the wine pairing in 2011 when I cruised the Dream. I liked it BUT I would have been just as happy if not more so getting a glass/bottle of my favorite wine. It was fun to say I had done it. However it was wine I wouldn't order on my own. I prefer sweet and most of the pairings were dry. I hope this helps. :)

We did the wine pairing on the Dream in 2012. I thought it was pricy, but the portions were decent. From reading the Dis, it seems that the wine pairing portions are smaller now. Now I think I would prefer ordering a pre-dinner beverage, and then getting the sommelier at Remy to suggest a bottle to be served with the meal. You can get a very nice bottle of wine for under $200, even at Remy!

I prefer the pairing because I like to have something different with each course. The pots are more than a wine tasting, but not a full glass I would say. There is s complimentary champagne cocktail included with dinner. I think if your preference overall is for a "sweet" wine, as a PP mentioned, probably the pairing isn't fir you, although there are dessert and ice wines in the mix and I agree that Lassiter winery is delicious but overpriced. As all wines in fancy restaurants are, IMHO! Anyway, it us a splurge, but I'd never be tasting half those wines myself and you can't really get them by the gjass. ::yes::

Seconded.

Let me preface this by saying I have not sailed on the Dream/Fantasy so have not personally experienced Remy. But do keep in mind that the $75 upcharge for dinner is not intended to indicate the price of that meal at a land-based restaurant. Just like you wouldn't get a Palo-quality meal on land for $20, they are figuring in that part of your cruise fare is already paying for dinner.

Also, whenever I've eaten at a restaurant that offered wine pairings I've taken advantage of it. To me it is a wonderful experience to be able to sample many different wines, especially if they have been chosen by an experienced sommelier and a talented chef to truly complement the food. There are some sublime wines in the world, but no single bottle can truly bring out the best in multiple courses of diverse types of food. Pairings FTW!

I think the wine pairing is worth the price. They have excellent selections with each course, and if you don't like the suggestions they will give you a different wine. It adds to the overall experience.

I think it is worth it. You get 5 pours for 90 dollars that have been chosen specifically to complement the taste of what you are about to eat. The price is on par with other wine pairing we have done for five courses. We didn't get it last time since we knew we were going to Skyline with friends after but this time we will be getting the pairing.

We went in August. The wines were fabulous, and it was worth it to experience the food the way it was meant to be enjoyed. It was a little too much alcohol with the wine, pre-dinner cocktails, and the drinks I had earlier in the day. This is my fault for being a lush. Splitting it with DH would have been fine.

I thought the pours were fine and comparable to land-based restaurants. A 1oz pour, like the other thread mentioned, is ridiculous. I bet I could conjure up 1oz of saliva if I tried.

May I hijack the thread and ask if you feel the same way about the pairings at Palo? Good choices and worth it. Thank you :)

Thanks for the great info on the wine pairings from everyone.

We did a wine pairing on the Disney Fantasy at Remy in November 2012 and we seem to recall that it was 2 ounce pours (at least) and seemed worth it at the time.

However, if it is now only 1 ounce, the value is pretty much erased.

My question is, does anyone know if you can actually bring a bottle of wine to Remy and ask to be charged corkage?

We purchased the classic wine package on that cruise and they would not let us use one of those wines in Remy, so I am not sure if the rules are different from the main dining room where you can bring your own wine and be charged the $20 dollars.

Any experience with this at Remy's would be appreciated.

We just left the ship a few days ago. The wine pairing is $105 now (not $99). I do not drink, so I cannot speak for the wine. My husband loved all of the wine pairings though. They tend to bring one glass for every two courses if I remember correctly. They do not fill the glass, but it is a quite a bit more than a taste. I'd say it is a normal pour.

I do not look at the cost of dinner as $75. On the ship, food is included. When you dine at Remy, the $75 is more like an upgrade fee on the food you'd get in the main dining room. In other words, you could not have a meal like that off the ship for $75. I've eaten at Napa Rose, and the restaurants are not on the same level.

I couldn't find the specific answer. I remember reading once that carried on alcohol could not be brought to Remy or Palo but then I went back and read the alcohol policy and it doesn't say it any more.

Its a big waste of $$$$ in my opinion.

They are not "normal" pours by any standard--these are but 2 OZ pours and you get 5 of them--that's $105 dollars for what amounts to 2 normal 5 oz glasses of wine.

And you don't even get Port with the cheese course!!

Bring your own if that's allowed--otherwise you can get 2 full bottles of wine for what you paid to get just 10 ounces.

PS--we were in Remy just a month ago and did the pairings--never again.

Thanks everyone. I'm sure Id love it. However the poster who said the price went up to $105 may have pushed me over the edge to a skip and order a a glass or two.

That's a lot. And for $105 you could even get a nice bottle of something.
