Remy VS Palo

I can't say anything about Remy. We just did Palo on the Fantasy and it was well worth it. Our waiter was great! He was from Italy (coincidentally he was from the same part of Italy my Great Grandmother was from). The food was easily some of the best food I have ever had. The Chef came to our table because I was asking about one of the recipes and he gave us the recipe.
Palo was easily, in my opinion, worth 5 times what we paid.

No way. Palo Brunch is a buffet, Remy is a fixed menu with several courses served to your table. Like comparing their dinners, they are in different classes.

Palo is a buffet? $20 for a buffet? I thought it was a sit down lunch with table service?

Brunch is both. You get what you want from the buffet, and the waiter will bring you a made-to-order entre if you want.

The cold selections are on the buffet, plus desserts. There is a hot menu you can order from that is served as a sit down meal... If you have room after the buffet.

Totally worth the $20, especially if you've experienced the $60+ buffet brunches at the Queen Mary or Disneyland/WDW. It's not a Vegas buffet.

DH figures we'd already paid for the cruise meals, why add an extra $150 on top of that (plus extra tip) but I told him to look at it as a shore excursion. :thumbsup2

I love this way of thinking about it...so true! This will be my favorite "shore excursion" on my next cruise!!

We have done both, several times. Palo is comparable to a very good restaurant, but the atmosphere is better than most. We will continue to do at least one dinner per cruise there. Remy is in a class by itself, and contrary to what some have experienced, we have found the staff to be engaging and very pleasant. Our waiters have always engaged in conversation (the "helpers" stayed more in the background), and every time we have been to Remy, the chef has come out and spent quite a bit of time at our table, sitting for photographs, giving details about the food, its preparation, etc.

We aren't "stuffy" types, and don't drink alcohol, so being big-ticket customers isn't the reason why we have had this kind of experience. They make us feel at home, while at the same time like we are their special guests. Best of both worlds.

I've done both for both meals more than once.

Dinner I prefer Palo over Remy just due to the length of the meal. Remy is more of an experience. When hubby & I did Remy dinner it started out all super formal & I was very overwhelmed. I was nervous, uncomfortable, & unsure what the heck all the service fawning was about. Hubby was rather amused watching me fidget. However, I do believe the waiters are trained to take their cues from their guests. When the waiter came with the 3rd? full new place setting that included the flattened spoon with the notch in the side I seriously couldn't keep my mouth shut anymore! I *had* to ask! I asked, "Do you completely reset every course even if I didn't use the pieces?"

"Yes. It's the service. Very nice."

"Well I was wondering if y'all just enjoyed polishing this stuff that much." **giggles**

"Oh yes, we polish. Gives us something to do." **winks**

I kinda explained that all this was lost on plain ol' me and I think that's what made the difference. Our waiter relaxed more, made conversation, explained things. He began delivering the same service but with a more comfortable demeanor. He explained things to me. Like nobody hammered his spoons flat & broke them. They're flat with a notch to fit the contours of the plate so you can get every last bit of the delicious sauces! Genius! When Chef Patric came out to speak to us the dining room was virtually empty. He sat & chatted with us quite a bit about various foods & cooking techniques. Interesting fella. Very personable & enjoyable. I left very happy. Learned a lot. So if you go & you're feeling the stuffy, speak up. Give your waiter the chance to smooth out his delivery at your comfort level. They're professionals!

I do still get a little creeped-out at the escorts to/from when going to the ladies room. Look, I know it's all the nice, blah blah blah....but it's creepy like I'm being watched. Just let a girl slip out of the room to powder her nose already. ;)

Much prefer the champagne brunch at Remy. MUCH. It's far more laid back. Relaxed. The champagne pairings are wonderful. I eat ZERO seafood so I let them know at the start that I prefer no fish or shellfish. Not an allergy, just preference. They brilliantly modified my courses along with my dining companions' normal dishes. Fabulous.

At Remy, if you don't wish to pay for the bottled still water be sure to request "Mickey" water. ;)

I muuuuuuch prefer Remy brunch to Palo. Palo is so. much. food. It's good. Just too much. Remy is perfect. Leave full having enjoyed amazing cuisine with yummy bubbly's. To me, it's perfection!

Seriously?? I was iffy enough on Remy because the food just seems weird (plus with being gluten free...). But being escorted to the rest room? Cross that one OFF my list. Thanks!! :)

I have now made a game out of it. Run. Dodge. Don't be noticed. They don't walk you all the way there but when you stand they come escort you to the door, tell you where it is, then usually wait for you to come back. Maybe next time I get caught I can make a little funny moment out of asking about the semi-stalker-ish nature of this. LOL!

I actually really liked it!! I knew it was going to happen thanks to @sweetpee_1993 mentioning it a few times. I always hate having to wander through restaurants in search of the restroom and am always grateful when someone points me in the right direction. This just was even a little better. I also got a new napkin afterwards.

In general my experience with Remy is like what @sweetpee_1993 said: The service is very elaborate, but they are wonderful in tailoring their delivery to you personally. We had a lovely server who never made us feel uncomfortable even when we asked maybe stupid questions.

For us Remy is the main selling point for sailing on the new ships. I cannot imagine a cruise on the Fantasy or Dream without having a meal there. Palo is lovely, but we don't mind if we don't eat there. Actually, haven't been there the last two cruises (and one of them was on the Magic, so no special meal at all), but we will return for brunch on our next cruise.

@sweetpee_1993 I am happy to hear that they are accommodating to preferences of nothing out of the sea. The set menu is one of the reasons why we have not done Remy brunch so far. We liked to have the possibility to pick and chose as we wanted.

I guess it's that I know where it is for Palo and Remy. I have never had a problem asking where one is if I need it either, so I've never felt I was wandering looking for it.

But like I said, it's kind of a moot point for me as I don't do "squab" or "pigeon" or any other funky stuff. I'm not overly picky, but there are certain things that just...no.

I'll stick with Palo. :) Save some money that way anyway!

My BF is picky in that way, too. He normally only eats beef and chicken. He did branch out and had pheasant and pork when we were at Remy. He loved everything but the pork belly that was part of his pork dish. But besides being picky with his meats, he more or less eats anything plant based. He is even more in love with Remy now than me. I was truly amazed by the quality of the dishes and ingredients and my meal at Remy counts as one of the top five meals I ever had.

DH and I tend to do Palo more b/c there is so much food at Remy...it truly IS an experience as much as a meal. That said, it is a wonderful meal...and I have the sophisticated palate of the typical 4 year old :) I just made DH eat whatever I didn't want and I got the good stuff...there was lots of the good stuff :)

I agree with @sweetpee_1993 says- I hate being escorted to the ladies' so I also try to do a little E&E (evade and escape) action with the Mission Impossible theme playing in my head...it breaks up the stuffiness!

On shorter cruises we tend to do a Palo brunch, for longer cruises either Remy dinner or both Palo brunch and dinner (but not on the same day).

i booked the remy brunch to get my toes wet. Do you think that will give us a good idea about dinner?

What is the duration for dinner at Remy? We are thinking about having dinner there but wondering if we would be able to make the evening show, which I believe starts at 8pm.

It depends on how long you want to linger over coffee. We finished in 2 hours.

I really loved Palo brunch and dinner and felt it was more relaxed than Remy. I've done Remy once, I feel like "I've been there done that" . Palo though, I cannot wait to go back. We will take our two oldest kids this time so they can experience Palo Brunch. I liked Palo dinner but I honestly prefer the brunch.
