Removing items from pockets, etc. on coasters?

I haven't been to WDW in years and I forget if they make you remove loose items before getting on a coaster. It seems like they would since flying cell phones, sunglasses, keys, etc. could cause injury, but I seem to only remember this from places like Six Flags.

If they do require this, which rides, out of curiosity? Thanks!

I've never seen this requirement.
I believe they ask you to "secure" all loose articles, but not "remove".

Normally my DH never does and during our trip last month I offered to hold items, but he refused......and of course his perscription sunglasses flew out of his pocket on the new roller coaster at US (rip-ride something upside down). So now he's wearing his old ones. (They cost him $150, so not going to be replacing them anytime soon.) He thought, cargo pockets with zelcro would keep them safe....nope. The next time I offer, I'm guessing he'll take me up on it. As for regular roller coaster (SM, EE) I think you're probably ok as long as you secure them. BTW--he's lost many hats on splash mountain and BTM. The rides start out now with a wavier from me saying, "you're not getting another hat if you lose this one". (he removed them now--see I don't need to bring a child with me, I've got one!).

I usually take off my glasses and hat before I get on the roller coasters at Disney, but that's it and I've never had a problem with losing anything from my pockets or my cell phone from it's holster.

However, they did make us completely empty our pockets at the Sum of All Thrills coaster simulator (although ironically, I was able to keep my glasses on for that one)

Interesting . . . If they rely on people to secure them, certainly some people don't secure them as well as they should -- wouldn't flying objects become a a safety hazard? I sure hope I don't get pegged with someone's glasses or phone. :scared1:

But by the same token, I assume Disney knows what's it doing, so I won't worry about it.

My dh and dd wear glasses and don't take them off for any of the rides at DW. We do take off hats though.

Disney doesn't make you store things ahead of time in lockers like they do at Universal, Sea World or Busch Gardens for the bigger costers. Rock n Roller Coaster and Everest both have pouches for you to put your stuff in front of you on the rides. Space Mountain, Big Thunder, Splash Mountain all just leave it up to you what to put away and where. I usually leave my sunglasses on (they fit tightly) but take off my hat or tiara. princess:

Most of the rides don't have huge drops/speeds/upside down parts where you'd have to worry about losing anything. I wear glasses and was able to keep them on for all the rides. The one exception would be RnRC where I put my glasses in my backpack just in case. On all rides, I make sure everything is in my backpack and I either place it in the cargo bag provided on the ride or stick my leg through the strap. I've never had any problems! Have a great time!

I often just take off my glasses and any hats/ears I may be wearing just to be safe and hold them or put them in my bag. I don't know if I really have to do that, but I just do anyways

Last time we were on ToT, DH's glasses came flying out of his pocket. Luckily, his reflexes were fast. Never had that happen before, at ToT or anywhere else.

I know this contradicts PP, but I ALWAYS wear cargo shorts at any theme park. I only wear the kind with pockets that buttons or zippers and I have never lost anything from those pockets on any rides. I've never been afraid to put cameras, phones, wallets, glasses, whatever in my pockets. That said, I've had some shorts that have shallow pockets that don't close well and things can fall out just sitting on the couch at home. The key is to wear them before you go to the park and know how secure your belongings will be.

Back to OP, never been asked to remove anything from a pocket before riding, and I almost always keep my baseball cap on... just turned backwards (I only have 1 cap that I'll wear to the parks though and I know it fits me well enough to stay on).

I've never had a problem with things in my pockets.

However, I did almost lose my hat on Splash Mountain! I assumed that between the fact that it was snugly fit to my head and my ponytail was through the back opening it would stay on. I was wrong! If it weren't for the fact that my mom was sitting behind me and that her reflexes were particularly good that day, I wouldn't have it anymore!

And a word to the wise, a backwards cap won't always stay on. As we were leaving Splash and walking back across the bridge, we decided to stop and watch as some more logs came down. A gentleman who's cap was clearly on backwards lost his about halfway down.

Disney is the only theme park where I don't worry about things comming out of my pockets, or my glasses coming off, I do remove the mickey ears though on most rides, or use the chin strap. But most coasters have a place to stuff things, (glasses, ears, ect.)

Now at Universal, when it comes to the rip ride rocket.... yeah, they mean it when the tell you to empty your pockets, the forces on the ride cause it to come out haha. I wore a necklace on that ride, bad mistake. It was going everywhere, almost lost it. And the second time I rode I forgot to take it off so I had to slide it into my shoe lol

But, just to be extra careful, pants with zippers and buttons, cargo pants, or just really deep pocket may be perfered.
