Ok all you homeowners. Please help with price range on kitchen.

My home is a very modest home $160 value in current market . Live in south florida. built in 1972 . The house is a 3/1 and needs a new kithen desperate. Need to replace everything except the appliances. Home depot innitial quote is about 5,690.

Our budget is 7,000. I know this does'nt sound like much to some, but to me its AAAAAAlot.

Basically all I'm getting is cabinets and doors. Quote does include 1,500 on countertops stone (not marble cheaper forgot the name of material).

Installation is included.

Any who, my kitchen is a galley kitchen style. very simple. Any tips on savings. We will be taking out the old cabinets ourselves.:upsidedow

Do you think you could install then yourself?
That would save lots of $$$$

DD just bought the cabinets for her new home from Home Depot. The problem was each time she went to HD she would talk to someone different. Never the same quote or the lost the paperwork or this person say's there is an extra charge for certain door she wanted. Had lots of other problems also. A couple cabinets were the wrong size when delivered. Then the right cabinets came but wrong doors ect.

DD hubby did the installing himself along with other family members. Very easy to do.

I'm sure you get the picture. Just be careful.

Thanks guys I think we will do the installation ourselves. DH and friends will help. :hyper: :hyper:

Here is our kitchen remodel. The total cost was $12,000CA. We had a friend do the work for us. That includes, electrical, appliances(except fridge), countertop, cupboards, knobs, etc. We also redrywalled. The house is lathe/plaster as it's 94 yrs old. It was so well worth the expense and trouble! Our cabinets alone cost us $4900 and that included the crown and light rail. We bought almost everything from Home Depot. They had don't pay the tax special on.

Enjoy!

Would it be possible to save the cabinet shells and just replace the doors? That will save a ton of money!

Are you looking at silestone, corian for countertops? Those are both almost as expensive as granite and I doubt you would want to install that yourselves. Wilson (I think that's the company) makes a laminate countertop that looks a lot like granite.

What about ceramic tile for countertops? That is very easy to install yourself - they have classes all the time at Home Depot. There are many colors and patterns you can choose from and the price can be very reasonable.

Good luck!
