Remember When....

I remember the magic shop where they sold the "invisible" dogs!

I vaguely remember a different theme song in COP ("Now is the time....something, something....).

I remember the Carnation place (I think it's Casey's now).

I can still smell the oranges in Horizons.....ahhhhh.....

I remember being scared out of my mind when I thought I would be hit by the train in Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!

I remember the rush of excitement in "If You Had Wings" when the seat went back a little and the scenes sped by you - very advanced for the 80's.

I remember really believing that I was flying in Peter Pan.

I remember the first time I noticed the pirate with the hairy legs in POC! I think I laughed for the rest of the ride!

It's been 2 whole years and I can wait to get back!!!!

I can't believe nobody has said this yet - The Wedway People Mover. Remember it? Before it was the TTA.

July 1979 or 80, can't remember which year. My parents had 3 of us and we all wanted to go on Space Mountain. Well, my mom refused to ride and we were all too young to go on alone I guess so my dad had to take us one at a time. The waits were 2 hours each time. My poor dad spent 6 hours of his day in line at Space Mountain so we could all have a turn. In those 6 hours my mom took the other 2 on other rides, but we spent the majority of the time going on the People Mover over and over again. It is actually one of my favorite memories of that trip. :D

Remeber when you had to pay attention to bus colors and not signs?
I LOVED that! "You take the green flag bus to the brown flag bus" (if I'm not mistaken, brown was the color for FW). Then, as the number of resorts and parks increased, they added flags with stripes, then I guess they ran out of options and just named the places. But colored flag buses were so much fun!

I think the reason no one had mentioned the WEDway people mover is because to us "oldies" it is still the people mover no matter what it is now called.

I still call it the "people mover" too.
My first visit to WDW-- Sept. 1972
and every year since.

P.S.
That's when (back in the olden days) we called MK, WDW.

Does anyone remember "Handwiches" the really neat cone shaped sandwich from the 1980s..Kinda shaped like an ice cream cone with various meats and fillings in them. The roast beef one adn the sea food salad handwiches were wonderful!! We used to get them in the Sunshine Food Court in the Land quite often.

Our first trip was in 1977. I remember the "marketplace" did not have any Disney merchandise at all.

My dad would sit by the playground while my brother and sister and I would play in the wood chips. My mom would shop and then we would get a treat at the Sara Lee shop (?).

We always entered the marketplace through the same door. The one that had the candle maker dipping candles and scraping out a strip to twirl it so we could see the colours underneath. Wow, that was so cool.

I don't care what sign they put up... the People Mover is still THE PEOPLE MOVER!

Geezing right along... does anyone remember the TOP OF THE WORLD restaurant? Excellent food and adult beverages with a top name entertainer from the time each night. We saw Brenda Lee, Frankie Avalon and Billie Eckstein there on different trips. Does anybody even know who all three of those people are???

I just bought a DVD of the long gone attraction, "IF YOU HAD WINGS" (one of my favorites...) on eBay this evening. There are others in the WDW series that feature the attractions: Journey Into Imagination, World of Motion, Universe of Energy and Horizons. Ther are even more pertaining to Disneyland.

I've got a couple of DVD's from the series from both DL and WDW. Quality depends on age of the film or tape but I enjoy them. All of the footage is from amature photographers who share a love of the parks. I've always had excellent service from the seller. Check the eBay seller- oldthemeparks.

Even his website is really interesting, just take a look!

I hope somebody out there will enjoy looking at these extinct attractions as much as I do!

And Space Mountain--when you and your friend, relative (or anyone lucky enough to ride with a stranger) sat in between your legs, or you in between their legs?

Oh my gosh do I remember that. The 1st time I went was on spring break with my friends. My friend sat between my legs and screamed so loud the whole time. I also remember MK not being nearly as crowded as it is today. I can remember there were pretty long lines for the rides, but there didn't seem to be the general congestion getting around the park. That was probably in March 1980 or 81. We had such a blast. I have often thought it would be fun for the four of us to go back together (no DH's, no kids)

In '85 we went on the Gold Key plan and stayed at the Contemporary. Our family thought we had made it!! As one of our meals we went to the Top of the World Restaurant for dinner. I remember all of us getting dressed up and having a great time.

I also remember when Image Works was upstairs in the Imagination Pavilion and had so many more things to do!!

I also remember the Welch's grape juice stand that was in Fantasyland - it served red, white and purple grape juice, which was my absolute favorite.

OMG! I totally forgot about the Welch's grape juice. I remember spilling it all over my t-shirt and shorts one year when I was a kid. We have photos of me with a giant purple stain on my clothes, standing in front of Cinderella's castle.:teeth: I didn't care how I looked ! I was at WDW!:earsgirl:

We also used the Gold Key Plan a couple of times. It was the greatest. My Youngest daughter could not understand that she could have anything off of any menu. She would constantly asked us if you could have this or that and we would tell her yes, as I was included in that plan.

I remember when they use to have great brunches at the Top of the World at the Contmeporary. We use to go to them all of the time. They were the best. I have not seen any buffets now that compare with what they had on those brunches.

Yes I remember the handwiches. They were the best. It was something different that you could not get anywhere else. Things like this were and are the reason Disney is so magical.

Our first trip to Disney was in '92...with our then 12yo ds's (3 of them) and our 10yo dd and a favorite memory that is long gone was the penny arcade on main street. Our kids loved it...we loved it. All of the old games and penny picture shows were amazing. Does anyone know what happened to the games...were they auctioned?

I really haven't looked in awhile, but I think a few of them remain under the Main Street Train Station.

Some of the stuff is upstairs at the Train Station. I also noticed on our last trip in May the walkway between the lobby and the BWI (inside the hotel) Had some of the stuff there.

I can remember HORIZONS and DH and I chosing opposite endings, but happy with either that showed up. 1998

I can remember when Disneyworld was only 2 parks...MAGIC KINGDOM AND EPCOT. 1987

I remember the first time we ate at a sit-down restaurant in WDW...it was the Garden Grille in The Land pavillion at EPCOT. The butter was in the shape of Mickey Mouse and he was standing on a plate. It was a small thing but really made us smile. We haven't seen that butter shape much since.

This is a great thread...so many memories coming back!

I remember when EPCOT opened there was only 1 reference to MM and it was a clock on the wll near the AT&T Fountain of Knowledge.

I remember when to stay on one of the top floors of the tower in the Contemporary only cost $65.00 a night. Then I thought the price was out of this world .

I remember when both future world and world showcase opened and closed at the same time. And it was really nice. Not too long ago either, wish they would do it now.
