Remember When....

My husband got his childhood scrapbook out last night, which includes a brochure from his family's 1975 Disney trip. Two nights/ three days at the Polynesian, including park tickets and a luau was $167 for an adult couple. An extra night was $48. Wow! This also included airport transfers.

I wonder what that is in today's dollars. He also has the park map and the Disney property map, which includes the camp grounds, MK, the Poly, and the Contemporary. Fun to look at.

I remember the great shops on Main Street - especially the magic shop. I also remember the Welch's grape juice stand that was in Fantasyland - it served red, white and purple grape juice, which was my absolute favorite.

How about the cinema on main street when they used to play old cartoon clips. And the old arcade where you could play vintage games for 5 & 10 cents.

Let me start by saying - I was little... Does anyone remember the soap in the bathrooms that was just like tissue paper and turned to soap in your hands once it was wet.

Also, I did not need the chorus to "If you had wings..." I used to sing that weeks and weeks after we would come home.

Also, remember the Swan Boats in the Magic Kingdom. You can still see the tracks where they used to be.

Remember when the MK was the only park in WDW.

Misson to Mars had the seats that kinda sunk in when you were moving away from the earth. Had a center round screen with a metal bar around it that you focused on to watch the "earth" as you went into space.

I was there in 1976 and remember the bi-centinial parade where the cast members in the parade has costumes with HUGE heads and were all dressed in old fashioned dress. It was the one of the only parades that I remember not having alot of characters.

My first trip was in 1983, about 4-5 months after EPCOT opened. It was Epcot Center, then with the futuristic interlocking rings and grid globe logo. Each of the pavillions had their own variant of that style of logo. There was no Norway, nor was there Morocco. It was still the Universe of Energy and World of Motion, Communicore with the little touch screen computer games was king, Magic Journeys was going strong, and I was in complete awe at the realism of the 3D effects.

I played at the arcade on Main Street, rode Mr. Toad, Mission to Mars, was stick between my dad's legs on Space Mountain, used the disappearing paper soap. I stood inlines for everything, even though we went in the middle of February. The Disney Village was the shopping district. Captain Nemo and the joys of animatronics under the lagoon.

If I come up with any more things, I will add them.

Keep in mind that my first trip was in 1981, when I was 2.

I remember when:

* MGM was a waste of a day. It had almost no rides or attractions. I now love it!

* The biggest thrill ride was Space Mountain.

* You didn't have to give up your firstborn child in order to pay the admission price.

* When you rode the monorail through Contemporary, you could see the people eating and shopping below you. I LOVED that. I was so bummed when they made that tunnel-thingy.

* Character sightings just happened. There were no scheduled times.

* There were no "seasonal" attractions.

I have, from my first trip in 1983, my 3 day World Passport ticket (i think thats what its called) with each day stamped on the front.

Second trip in 1985 - and only time on site - stayed at the Golf Resort (now shades of green).

I remember that parade!!! I think we were in Disneyland for it! Mission to Mars was a hoot. Isn't that where Alien Encounter is/was???

You still can. What "tunnel thingy"?

POTC used to be a very popular ride and needed the ropes outside the entrance and they actually needed both sides to load boats. Even in late June it was at most a 10 minute wait.

Wow! 10 minute waits! I sure do miss those!

Our first trip to Disney was in '92...with our then 12yo ds's (3 of them) and our 10yo dd and a favorite memory that is long gone was the penny arcade on main street. Our kids loved it...we loved it. All of the old games and penny picture shows were amazing. Does anyone know what happened to the games...were they auctioned?

I do not think I wrote what I meant very clearly. Back in the day POTC was 45-60 minutes wait minimum. The last few years it has been almost always a walk right up the the waiting boat, and that is with only one side open. Even our last trip in late June 2003 I think we waited only 10 minutes. Meanwhile Jungle Cruise had a 60+ minute standby time.

I still have my 7 day hopper pass from 1995. They scanned your picture right on to the front of the ticket and they used somekind of hole punch system and date stamp to show the days used.

You can? I remember when I was younger and they were doing construction around the monorail track. That's the tunnel I was talking about. I think I was 10 at the time (approx. 15 years ago). That's the last time I took the monorail to the CR, so I thought the "tunnel" was permanent. Boy, I really need to go back to the World to get updated info.
