On my last trip to WDW I found a memory card lying on the ground. We brought it to lost and found and just hope that it was eventually reunited with it's owner. There wasn't a phone number or anything on the outside.
I would be so upset if I lost my precious memory cards. It can happen so easily too. Lesson learned. Not only am I now putting my cell number on the outside of my cards but on the inside as well. When the memory card is opened the first shot will have my cell and home numbers. Here's an example of one of the pics with Einstein as my model.

Good tip. Just be sure to protect that first shot by turning on the protection in your camera. This will keep it from being deleted. However, I think that if you format the card again, it will be deleted so keep that in mind.

Thanks for the tip, I just labled all mine.

Great tip...I am going to do that next time I use the camera.

I label my cards as to #1,2, etc by card size so I know which one is which. I carry with me a pocket pixel rocket by Think Tank http://www.thinktankphoto.com/ttp_product_PxlPcktRckt.php

I turn the cards face out as they are put in there and face down as I use them. You can see from the carrier, it attaches to my belt loop and goes in my pocket. The carrier has a business card in it for ID.

The only time a card would be out of my camera would be when it is going into that carrier or the camera. Unless I am storing a card for a while, I never use the plastic storage container. I do not have the time to pull it out of that container. Too much to keep up with!

Keeping a picture with phone #'s on it a great idea! That would help if *knock on wood* the camera were to be misplaced too. Well, that's if someone honest found it. I'm going to make one up and see if protecting it will keep it from being deleted from the memory card. Thanks for the handy tip!

I label all mine with my last name, phone number, card # (I # all my cards and have a check out/check in system... but that's only because I have so many and need to keep them all straight!) and then the word REWARD all in caps. I would really give someone a monetary reward too if they found it.

I had a system because I too have a lot of cards. Now I just date and number them. Adding reward is a great idea. It might encourage someone to call who might otherwise not. I would absolutely offer a reward for my pics return.

Andrew, Locking the pic on my camera (D200) is helpful but I still have to add it after reformatting the card. A small inconvenience if my card comes back to me.

my system is similar to YesDear's

I use a lowepro card wallet, I also put the cards face out when empty, and face down when used,
cards are marked 1 or 2 depending on the camera I use them in, then a,b,c etc..

I also include my cell number and my email address on each card. Although I have a stack of business cards in the wallet, I think the info on the card itself, might discourage someone from tossing the business cards and keeping the wallet and CF cards, I figure if someone is tempted to do so they might be discouraged by the possibility that a family member would notice the info and question them as to why they have the cards..

I like the idea of including reward, and that will be added to my cards...

I don't know why I never thought to label my memory cards. I used to label my rolls of film (only when on vacation). I'm going to get on that right away.

Similar to what YesDear does, I keep my SD cards in a business card holder. The very inexpensive Buxton card holder ($2 or $3 at OfficeMax) holds 4 SD cards in their cases and even a business card (!) for contact information.

Another good option is REI's ultra thin wallet.

Yep, I do the same thing - the first photo on each of my memory cards is a photo of my business card, protected (but it will be erased if the card is formatted). I use my business card/office address & phone because of all the stuff you hear about protecting yourself while on vacation - don't advertise your home address or phone number because then the "bad guys" will know that nobody's home at your house:rolleyes1

I have a memory card zip wallet and use it most of the time but sometimes the cards don't get right back in to the holder. When all 4 of us are using cameras in the parks I am the official holder of the family memory cards and that can get a bit hectic.princess: If I need to stow them quickly the left zip pocket on my bag holds the empties in the card holder and the right are the full cards in a zip bag with a red dot on it. "Red, Right, Return" to download.

They're all labeled with my cell phone # inside and out now. Yea those bad guys don't need my home phone or my address. Bad enough they'd have my pics.
Now all I need is a trip soon::yes::

You must be a mariner, "red, right, return". :)

i don't know if you've ever seen this website, but i thought it looks like it could be a great way to get a lost memory card back to someone...

http://ifoundyourcamera.blogspot.com/

i lost a disposable camera back in high school, i often wonder what happened to all those pictures on it...

I dropped mine at the grocery store and I had my number on the outside. It was in my pocket and it fell out when I took my wallet out to pay. I was called by the store just as I got home.

Great idea, I'm adding business cards to my wallet. DH is a lawyer:rotfl:I don't know if that's good or bad in this situation but I'll put his on top.
My thought for adding the pic of Einstein was similar. Maybe if they see the pic of my dog, a reward, and my plea (begging) to call they may feel more inclined to do the right thing.

::yes:: Nothing like it :boat:

Thanks for posting the link. That should be a sticky. So sorry to hear you never recovered your precious pics.

Whew, that was really nice of them. They got to you before you had time to worry about it. Good thing you had your number on it:) Just curious was it your cell or home number?

How would you do SD cards?...I have looked at them and they are so small and there is no place on the label to write anything.

I will have to find some kind of sticker that would fit. Is there any type that would not come off in camera?
