I got an email from Amazon today saying that a guidebook for the HP TouchPad was finally available for pre-order (no delivery date yet scheduled). If you want to check it out, here's the info: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0071752803/ref=pe_11480_25191510_emwa_email_title_1

So how are you all using yours? I've used it a couple of times as a voice recorder for interviews for my website; I downloaded a few videos to watch on the plane; I've used it as a music player at my garage sale; mostly, I use it as a Kindle. For $99, I'm happy with it.

I installed Android on mine and use it like any other Andriod device.
Watch Netflix and Hulu+, surf the web, play games, listen to music --

it's awesome for $99!

I'm using mine right now. I love it. I put android on it too. Use Webos most of the time. I only switch to android for games not available on Webos.

How I use it:

web surfing
watching movies (it really comes in handy on a flight)
Pandora
Kindle
games

We ended up with three. DH just put android on his. I don't really know what he does with it. He takes it to work sometimes, but mostly I think it's just another toy.

We let our DDs 9 and 7 use the other two. They surf the web, play games (from the free apps), use the Kindle app, play music, etc. We bought them with the idea of using them as movie players, but it's REALLY difficult to put movies on them. The digital copies that come with most Blu Ray sets don't work (or at least we haven't figured it out).

DH said he could probably do it if he put android on them, but we have portable DVD players anyway, so I don't think it's a big deal.

Overall, they were a good purchase for us. If nothing else, they kept my girls entertained for our 25-hour round trip to a family wedding this summer. Although they did complain that we didn't have wi-fi in the van. :rotfl:

I also have Android on mine and it works like a dream. I have Kindle, Netflix, a ton of games, everything you can pretty much do on an Android tablet/phone. I even bought a Bluetooth keyboard so I can use it to type/write. And it was only $100! :cloud9:

I still love my Touchpad.
I have some games on it. I use it to read books. My husband likes to use it to play games while waiting for me or while waiting to see the doctor or whatever.

I don't have music on it. I subscribe to Pandora, so I'll have to check out putting it on my Touchpad.

I still have a lot to learn about it, but for the basic things I do, it works great!!

I'll most likely buy this book. Does anyone have good sites about the Touchpad?

+1 for installing android. Granted, the camera is still not working (microphone support is mostly there now I think), but otherwise, it opens a world of apps.

I got DH one for Christmas, he loves it and uses it daily. He mostly plays games on it.

What's the best *easiest* way to install Android? We'd use ours *2* more if they had Android.

Here's a link to directions for installing android. I don't know if this is the newest version (I did mine a while ago) so you might want to do a quick search for the latest update.

If you have no idea what you are doing, don't be afraid. Just follow the steps. I had no idea and even took a few tries to correctly type everything. It all worked out though.

OK, so the 14 minute tutorial took me about 90 minutes to get through by pausing and making sure I was following the steps correctly, but I did it! And it is awesome! I downloaded Netflix, and I can't stop grinning. This is the tutorial I followed....you will probably need to pause and rewind a few times, but it does work!

Thanks for the encouragement, I finally got brave enough to do it:thumbsup2
