...the fortnightly pop magazine??? Remember it was the only place to get the song lyrics?? :cool1:

After 28 years it will no longer be published :(

I remember buying this and in particular getting the lyrics for '99 red balloons' :teeth:

Bye Bye Smash Hits :(

I used to reas it in the days of kylie and Jason. I guess its because of the Internet is now so popular and you can easily get lyrics for free.

Bye Bye SMASH HITS!

Yeah, getting lyrics from Smash Hits was certainly easier than taping songs off the radio, and replaying and pausing them while you tried to understand the lyrics and write them down. Don't miss those days! :teeth:

Know how you feel, I used to get this mag too. Never meant as much to me as Melody Maker though, I'm still mourning the great MM!

I loved this magazine growing up. Felt really cool buying it.

Bye Bye Smash Hits.

NME - urgh, can't stand them. I always thought they had their heads where the sun don't shine iykwim, I still do think this. NME now dictates what's cool, I thought music mags were there to write about the bands people like, not to say "this band/look is cool and if you don't agree then you're an idiot." You don't stand a chance these days if you're an indie band and don't get the NME behind you :(

I was more of an NME reader

Snap!!! Me too Mandy, although I did buy Smash Hits for my daughter, but she has now moved on to Kerrang mag :rolleyes1

Used to get it whenever Kylie or/& Jason had a new song out :rolleyes1

Never heard of it ~ Does that mean that I am uncool?

It was more of a 'newspaper' than magazine, just like the Melody Maker

I agree :rotfl2:

Ah Yes, the great smash hits, what a shame that an institution like this has to go... :sad2:

I am gutted about this.

Smash Hits used to be my fave magazine.

I read it all through the NKOTB days right through to Take That.

It's a shame as it became a bit of a classic magazine.

I guess things have to move on though, don't they.

I remember that soooooooo well. I did this to the Lyrics of Rebel MC Street Tough and still think I am so cool as I know the words : :rotfl:
I used to love Smash Hits. I remember buying this in the mid to late 80's

I used to get song lyrics from a magazine called Disco 45. The words never seemed to quite fit the records though, I was never sure if the singers had changed them a bit when recording or if the magazine writers had tried to transcribe them directly from the records and made mistakes.
