Rely on pixie dust or bring my own?

Should I rely on pixie dust for our trip in regards to celebrating birthdays at restraunts or should I have something in my bag "just in case"? I don't need to make a big deal but would like a couple of meals to give my birthday boys a bit of extra special attention.

Just wondered what experience people have had and what you've brought if you've brought anything with you. Also, if you bring things with you, do you send your party to the bathroom (to get cleaned up or something) while you go ahead to get the table ready? Or would you just hand the server a little bag of confetti and ask him/her to put it on the table before you're seated?

Again, I'm not expecting a huge deal, but for the Coral Reef for sure (I've reserved the diver and have requested personalized menus) I would like to do something special. Maybe also our first meal in the World to kick off the celebration. We can't actually have their birthdays at Disney as they were two weeks ago. We are celebrating them while in the World, because it's the soonest time we could get there with our schedules so no flames please. :goodvibes

Thanks for any tips/advice you may have!!

Almost all of the restaurants will bring you a complimentary cupcake or slice of cake for free - if they know you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary.

Last year, we enjoyed whatever the restaurants did which varied and depended a lot on how busy they were. I have heard that LTT Character would sprinkle confetti on the tables - but they never did that for us. However, we had a present with us that we had hidden in a bag - the hostess placed the present on the table with a card that all the characters signed - so when we got to the table it was a surprise to my son. In fact, to this day, he still believes Mickey delivered the present to the restaurant.

I also wrote out letters to my son from Mickey prior to our visit to DW. Daily, I would place these letters around us in the parks for my son to find. He loved receiving the letters and was on constant look-out for Mickey. He never did understand how Mickey knew where he would be in the parks.

So, my recommendation is - if you want to ensure that something special is done - arrange it yourself. Disney Florist is a great group to use or some people use Gifts of a Lifetime (I personally think they are extremely expensive - they will do the letter hunt in the parks for $250 plus present. I did it for $25).

Good Luck! :thumbsup2

No flaming required or warranted. We celebrated my 50th birthday at Disney last September and my actual birthday was not until December. But we couldn't go in December because of our son's college wrestling schedule. It is hit or miss at restaurants sometimes. When we went for my DH's 50th birthday five years ago, only one restaurant brought a cupcake for him. Every restaurant but Boatwright's brought a cupcake, or a slice of cake or something for my birthday in September. The Crystal Palace decorated the table with confetti, ribbons, and brought me a birthday card signed by Pooh and friends and brought a cupcake and sang to me--AT BREAKFAST!

Have Disney Dining place it on your ADR. A nice CM put it on ALL of mine when I got excited that I got the Yachtsman ADR I wanted for my actual "born on day." I received...

Bistro De Paris -- Happy Birthday written with chocolate on a plate.
Boma (Brkfst) -- Three mini desserts with a candle and a card from the staff (really neat!)
Flying Fish -- Free Creme Brulee
Sci-Fi -- Free Ice Cream Sundae
Yachtsman -- A card signed by several Characters
Whispering Canyon Café -- Free Cupcake
Tusker House -- Free Cupcake and a card signed by several Characters
Artist Point -- Free Berry Cobbler
Tutto Italia --Fee Chocolate Yummy cake, sung to in Italian and a kiss on the cheek from a young cutie
Tokyo Dining -- Free Chocolate Ginger Cake

Not bad for a 40 something kid! (Don't flame me, she put it on the ADR, I didn't ask her to!)

We celebrated my husband's birthday at Crystal Palace. I told the server and the characters came over with a card and cupcake. It was definitely fun!

Make sure that you stop by "customer service" at the first park of the day to pick up a birthday button!
