Relocation to Orlando!?!

Well Good Luck to you both! My DW and I count down the years till we can move to Florida. Indiana is so cold and in 12-13 years will be able to move. This time of year I miss the color green everything is so blahhhhhh, Shawnpirate:

I'm starting to really look forward to it now. Do you know anything about the Orlo Vista area of Orlando, around the 4400 block of S. Kirkman Road?

Well, here's a google photo of it:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=4400+south+kirkman+road+orlando&rls=com.microsoft:*:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7ADBF&um=1&ie=UTF-8&split=0&gl=us&ei=756tSciIM4H8tgfK9oWABg&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&resnum=1&ct=title

If you click and drag the little orange man icon onto Kirkman, you can walk along it and see it at street level!

My DH was transferred to the Orlando area in 1999. We LOVE it here. I can't imagine moving north again. The weather is terrific and you can participate in outdoor activities year round. Of course its hot in the summer, but its hot in PA too. The summer is just longer here.

We enjoy everything about WDW and use the facilities often. We use our DVC membership for short 2 night getaways and for week long vacations. We also will pop down to Downtown Disney for dinner and walk to see the sights. We play golf and enjoy the courses at Disney. We have Florida Resident Annual Passes and sometimes stop into a park just to catch one ride and have dinner. Its also fun to pop by for the fireworks. At Christmas time we enjoy visiting all of the hotels and DVC properties to enjoy the decorations. We always visit the Food & Wine Festival and the Garden Festival each year.

There are lots of things to do in Central Florida. We never lack for something to see or do. We have found that since most people are from other places they are anxious to meet new people and make friends. We have met alot of terrific people since moving to Florida.

I know that moving is scary... but you could be moving to alot worse places than here!

Good Luck!

Well, we made it here, and after only one week it's already starting to feel like home. The weather down here is truly amazing, and I definitely don't miss March up north! :goodvibes

Thanks for all the encouragement. You are a great bunch of people. I will be back often to post updates.

Wishing you the very best! Keep all of us dreaming northerners posted on how wonderful it truly is!

Glad you made it down and safe.

Best wishes and good luck. Please keep us posted. Don't forget a year from now to let us know if it's everything you thought/want it to be.

I hope it is. Enjoy the warmer weather.

Glad to hear you're getting settled so quickly. Here in northern Maryland it's damp and foggy and the grass is still an awful shade of brown. Enjoy the sun, sand and palm trees for me! Please keep us posted on your adventures in Florida! Good luck!! :goodvibes

We made the move from the north east in September of 2002. My DH and I were both at WTC on 9/11 and living through that next year was awful. Making the move to our favorite place on earth was an easy decision. However, I do remember the actual moving day. I was in panic mode too. It's a big change. However, I can tell you that Central Florida is chuck full of transplants like us. We have met and become friends with some truly great people. Plus, Disney is going to be your backyard now! It really helps whenever you get homesick --just go to MK and people watch.

Best of luck to you, and welcome to sunny Florida! :flower3:

I moved from Philly to Seminole County in '91. I've never regretted it. It takes some time to learn how to cope with the heat during the summer and learning how to function during the hurricanes. I couldn't imagine ever living anywhere else or ever going back up North. (even not after we didn't have power for 2 weeks with Charley and Frances :scared1: )
Feel free to PM anytime. I head out to one of the parks with my family about once a week. We also own at SSR and living so close does have it perks. You can book stays at the villas with just a day's notice - whenever you get the urge. It will be ok. :goodvibes
