Religion?

I believe that the earth is as old as science says it is, I believe in evolution, and I believe that dinosaurs existed before humans. I wish that science and religion could just along.
I believe that God created the universe Himself, but he allowed evolution to happen. He felt it was necessary for His world.
I also believe that it doesn't matter what you did during your life, everyone goes to heaven. I feel it's very hypocritical for any god to create it's beings to be "not perfect" then punish them for doing what they are basically designed to do.
I was baptized and confirmed as a Lutheran, and I still am a Lutheran. I just feel that a few things that the church preaches aren't right. I am religious, I pray every night, I pray when I need guidance and I pray when I don't know what to do. I believe in heaven, but I don't believe in hell. I believe there is a devil, but he has no power over us in the end.

That's basically my beliefs, in the cliff notes version.

hey just thought i would add sum of my thoughts

I'm protestant-presbyterian

coming from a country where religion has basically ripped the country apart means that people here tend to be very set in their ways.

I mean there are people hear who still believe that if you are not the same religion as them then you are evil and not worthy to talk to

I have recently faltered in my religion due to a personal loss but i still think there is someone up there....

I also believe in dinosaurs and evolution and that God's version of one may be huge amounts of time...

I agree with most that your saying but I dont get how evolution and creationism could of both came from.
Also where did the devil evolve from I just dont know
I dont get how we evelved etc.
But I do agree with everyone goes to heaven not just select people

My mum says that because i was christianed as a Christian then i'm supposed to follow the ways of Christianity. Therefore i am not to believe myself any other than a Christian. But tbh i wasn't exactly given the choice of religion and so i don't think i should have to stay with HER decision.

But, despite what my mum thinks, i believe myself to be an Athiest.

I'm more on the side of science. I can't understand the religion stuff, no offense. I can however, understand the reasons others may follow a religion and i respect their views on it, i just don't have a religion myself.

Just because you were Christianed doesn't mean you have to follow the faith of Christianity, thats one of the things that annoys me is when children are brought being told they have to follow their parent's religion...and school's teaching it is quite annoying (my mother hated that when I went to school every friday I had to attend a thing because I wasn't Christian). Religion should be a choice not something your told to believe. Its good that you can say you don't believe what your parent's say, my parent's were quite proud when I told them I was pagan/wiccan (because my parent's knew its not what alot of people say it is ).

I'm disgusted by the insane generalizations, bashing and overall intolerance of this thread.

I took a while off, and I came back to find one of my favorite threads, a religion thread, that I can normally hold my own in. Yet, when I read it, it just becomes a big thread of intolerance that i'm not sure I can take. Seriously guys? From an outsiders point of view take a step back and look at what you're saying.

We are all people. No matter race, intelligence, sex or RELIGION. Christianity is based on LOVE. For God so LOVED the world. LOVE one another. So, maybe put a little more love in your posts. If everyone loved one another, it'd be easier to get a lot done in the world.

Remember that before you completely bash someone, their beliefs or their religion or lack thereof.

God didn't make us imperfect. We humans messed up! It was all part of the plan though.

My religious history is a rollercoaster relationship with God. I was raised and confirmed as a Roman Catholic, but I really don't believe in what was taught to me. My relationship with God fluctuates by the day. I've learned a bit about other different religions, and they're all intriguing, but not enough for me to fully follow.

Science is my back bone. I believe in evolution, the big bang, you name it, I'm there. I feel that it's eaiser able to answer my questions as opposed to religion.

I'm a full believer in karma.

I've come to the realization that I don't necessarily need a God or other figure to tell me what's right and what's wrong and to guide me in the right direction. I have my own religious and scientific education, and my own intuition to guide me as I need it. I still have my own morals, values, and beliefs.

Conventional religion could never give that to me.
And if God's up there, he wants me to question and doubt him.
That's the way I want it, anyway.
