Religion?

So...my signature has offended you?
As I was making it I put holidays that way I could wish any religion their holiday and not offend anybody...
I usually say Christmas in person because everyone I know celebrates Christmas, but since this is a forum and everybody reads these posts I put holidays. I don't have a signature for each poster of a different religion to see.
I alway thought it was the polite thing to do...

Sorry if this has already been asked.

When I was little, I still did Santa (you know...parents like to make kids happy and all...) but now it's more of a time of giving and being with people who care about you.

I usually wish people "Happy Holidays" (most of my friends are athiest). There's just the exception of our family friends, who are Jewish, and I KNOW they celebrate Hanukkah, so I say "Happy Hanukkah" (since the Jewish New Year isn't in January).

Does this make any sense to anyone?

Actually, yes. Well, it isn't the fact that they are saying happy holidays, as the fact that they refuse to take an religious side. If somebody says happy Hanukkah, it's fine with me. As long as they give their religious POV. It is totally pathetic to be so concerned about being PC and trying to please everybody that you can't even acknowledge your religion.

If I want to say Merry Christmas, I'm going to say it. If the person that I say it to doesn't like it, well that's their problem. I'm trying to be nice to a stranger by wishing them a happy holiday and they get offended? Have we become so politically correct that we can't accept others well wishes for what they truly are?

I'm just saying that just because their religions have popped up in America doesn't mean that we should change what we were based on. I mean, Muslims believe that killing people is alright, so if enough Muslims move to America, should murder become legal???

Yes. All muslims believe that killing people is alright. Just like all Christians believe that you shouldn't wear clothing of mixed fabrics (cotton/polyester blend much?). that's a really generalized statement based on very little factual evidence.

Well you know it offends Christians to say "Happy Holidays." And if it's so polite, why can't you say "Merry Christmas?"

While I'm not an atheist, I don't believe in the Christian god (or, any other god, really). But I celebrate the Solstice as a time of giving (coincidentally, it falls on the same day my family is celebrating christmas this year...). I also exchange gifts on christmas with my friends and gifts on Hanukkah with my jewish friends. I celebrate their holiday with them and they celebrate my holiday with me.

I don't hide behind my religion, I have to hide my religion because alot of people are still very towards it (like some priests have said they want public execution brought back...just for follow that faith) and the Glastonbury incident also...its a shame theses people put a damper on Christianity (I'm not Christian but I know theres kind ones out there (like on here) that aren't preachy or try and force faith onto someone).

As I said I'm not Christian, I celebrate Christmas (or Yule/Winter Solstice) as the time the goddes gives birth to a son. (A sign of rebirth (long and I'd say complicated but it makes sense in a way after so long haha)). Then the slumber of the goddess (i.e. the winter time).

unless you tattoo "i'm a christian and i celebrate christmas" on your forehead, no one is going to know. they're just trying to be polite. jeez. get off your high horse and just accept their well wishes.

i was a hardcore atheist for 12 years. i have never in my life been offended by anyone well-wishing me. if you honestly are, you need a serious reality check.

This past argument (which stayed pretty tame, IMO, which is very good)
reminded me of a Dane Cook joke when he tells someone "God bless you" out of habit, and the person scoffs and says "I'm an atheist"
^Doesn't have anything against either religion, but to just accepted well wishes when given, as said before on this thread.
Don't look for the bad in "Happy Holidays" instead, accept it as a strangers or friends blessing on your life during the next month, whatever you celebrate.

I think I've made a decision on my faith
I think God answered alot of my prayers yesterday and I just feel he real
I'm going to small groups an hour early tonight since they encourage people to come early
I'm hoping to speak with the person who runs it and get last bit of info of what I mentioned to her I needed and hopefully then
redo it and let him into my heart without any questions
I want to get her opinon on it before and I feel like since she is the one who convince me there maybe something out there I'm pretty confident I should accept him back in here

I think it's cool whenver someone wishes me happy anything. Merry Christmas, happy holidays, Happy Hannukah, Happy winter, whatever.

And for those of you who are offended when I say happy holidays, or when anyone says happy holidays, remember we could be saying "F*** you."

Same here. Santa is just something to make kids happy (and he does!)

But growing up, I didn't understand (then, didn't BELIEVE) the nativity story.

I wasn't raised it (I don't beliebe in being raised in a religious way, but thats going off topic haha). Like all people who follow in the religion it just connects with you I guess is a way to put it (My mind is abit today).

Its the admiration of nature and the cycle of the natural world. Its also a spiritual connection with The Goddess and God, the understanding of duality (think Ying and Yang type thing). Its also the belief of the Rule of Three (whatever energy a person sends out (positive or negative) will return to that person three times) and the Wiccan rede "An it harm none do what ye will".

I can't really explain it well today as my mind is abit all over the place haha.

But i dont believe in God or Jesus or there being a virgin giving birth. I look at the science side of it.
