Religion?

The Bible has been translated thousands of times, there's bound to be some mistakes. The only one that would most likely say EXACTLY what God intended would be the original hand-written Bible, which I don't think is around anymore?
The Bible today is from The Dead Sea Scrolls...even though they have found plenty more new scriptures they decided not to include it in the Bible because it will take too much time and it will mess up the kids with their studies. I did a report on the Dead Sea Scrolls but the end part was what my teachers have told me

::yes::

We learned about that in World History last year.

The original Bible was translated into so many different languages, so many different times.

Like a game of Telephone..."Billy's got Oreo Cakesters" becomes "Billy's got his first chest hair".

Have you read the different version's?

i.e King James, New Living Translation, ect.

Different words, same meaning.

Thought I'd share this with you guys...

From Spring Awakening, "All That's Known". From a teenage atheist's POV in 18th century Germany.

All that’s known
In History, in Science
Overthrown
At school, at home, by blind men

You doubt them,
And soon they bark and hound you
Till everything you say is just another bad about you

All they say
Is “Trust in what is written”
Wars are made
And somehow that is wisdom

Thought is suspect
And money is their idol
And nothing is okay unless it’s scripted in their Bible

But I know
There’s so much more to find
Just in looking through myself, and not at them

Still, I know
To trust my own true mind
And to say there’s a way through this

On I go
To wonder and to learning
Name the stars and know their dark returning

I’m calling
To know the world’s true yearning
The hunger that a child feels for everything they’re shown

You watch me
Just watch me
I’m calling
And one day all will know

You watch me
Just watch me
I’m calling
And one day all will know

Good grief that was in the 1700's!!!
And money isn't a Christian's idol. The money goes to the people who need it. You know, poor people who live a life 10x worse than ours?

And times have changed since the Bible was written, so obviously some things have changed. However, most things in the Bible still apply to our life. And if itweren't for the rules of Judism in the old testament, i would say that everything in the Bible applies to Christians.

Strange...I was baptized (sp?) as a baby, but we never went to church?

So I was baptized, but not brought up religious...therefore, my parents just let me believe what I wanted to.

Okay, maybe the CHURCH, finds the offering (money) idol, but in the 10 commandments it says...

"Thou shalt not have any idols before Me"

Meaning, do not worship anything in replace of God.

As for the Bible, those things were placed in there to protect us. It seems very restricting and awful, but it provides total freedom!!!

im Methodist, but i don't go to church. I think I've been to church like 4 or 5 times in my whole life.

That's your parent's choice in not bringing you up with any values and letting you just...float.

religion=/=values.
values=/=religion.
while they can coexist, they can also exist seperately from one another. thats why, contrary to popular belief, atheists aren't bad people.

She never said that all atheists were bad people

::yes::

Church does NOT make you a good person and give you values. Guess what? My grandfather attened church every week, holiday, etc. Did that stop him from abusing his wife and have her act submissively? No.

I also did not remember anybody saying that church makes you perfect. And if he was a Christian, that doesn't mean that he can't mess up. Christians aren't perfect, we are just forgiven.

I did not say it made you perfect, I don't know where you're getting those words? Alyssa said "For not raising you...with values...". To imply that just because someone doesn't go to church, therefore they aren't raised with morals is downright condescening. I'm not saying he couldn't mess up, we're only human. I'm just proving that being raised with a religious upbringing doesn't automatically entitle you to values.

She meant religious values....
