Relentless Forward Motion (a.k.a. Running towards 40)

Awesome pace Amy.Don't you just hate that the weather has been so much of a factor. It is tough out there on those hills.
Your week still looked great despite limited runs.At least you stuck to a plan.

Have a great day,
Linda

Hi guys...just a mid-week check-in!

Linda: Yes...the weather has made consistent running outside a CHORE :upsidedow . And I really have trouble w/ the treadmill. I've been forced onto the bike/ski machine a bunch lately. But at this point..just putting the steps in doing something is better than nothing right? I know I need to ramp up my run mileage...all in good time i suppose.

Scotty: Thank you for all your support!!! Yes..the new training plan is going well and keeping me from getting bored!! :thumbsup2 Not sure my hip is too happy with all the hills though...having that pain back a bit so we'll see how it all shakes out! :headache:

Kim, Beth, Tracy: Thanks for your support girls! It sounds more impressive than it actually is I think. I'm just trying to mix it up a bit and get lots of XT into the program. The goal is to remain injury free!!! *fingers crossed* :grouphug:

So today I managed a solid1 hr 40 min of cardio. Right now my legs are complaining a bit...but otherwise I feel pretty good :). I did 20 minutes on the treadmill at an easy pace; an hour spin class (was just soaked with sweat at the end..always an indication of a good class) and finished it off with another 20 minutes on the treadmill at a slightly quicker pace.

I had to rearrange my running schedule a bit because of more bad weather yesterday :sad2: . So I may have to do a back to back run today and tomorrow. Hopefully my legs allow that ;).

Thanks for stopping by guys! :sunny:

Amy, I really miss spinning.I absolutely loved it.I loved running out of the saddle the best.Climbing out on 3 was great too.I would hear music and say to my DH this is a good song to climb to.He had no idea what I was talking about.

Keep it up,
Linda

Amy,

Girl, I found your journal!!!! :cool1: This way I can keep up with all your training--without actually doing any if it, of course! I love your TM-spin class-TM idea (in theory). You're awesome.

Good luck with the back-to-back runs. If there's anyone who can do it, it's you! :thumbsup2

Amy,
Good luck with the back-to-back runs. If there's anyone who can do it, it's you! :thumbsup2

Totally! You can do it Amy! Please be careful though!!! Too bad about the weather! Looks like some warmer weather may be on the way though!

You are doing great with your speed work and hills!!! :thumbsup2 Take good care of that hip.

Stacie

I think we're all ready for spring!:cool2: It would make running and walking outside a whole lot easier. I think we should blame the groundhog. ;):lmao:

You are doing an amazing job, Amy! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Hey Amy. Just checking in. Hadn't heard much from you lately...

Stacie

Hello everyone...WOW...been B-U-S-Y :)

Let me update last week (running took a backseat since I had Pilates workshops all weekend...

Monday: Taught 3 Pilates Classes; pseudo rest day
Tuesday: 30 minutes on the bike trainer; 20 minutes on the ski machine; 90 minutes with my Pilates trainer; taught two classes
Wednesday: 60 minutes spin class; 40 minutes running; Pilates DVD
Thursday: 3 miles speed work (1/2 mile warmup; 1/2 mile 8:30 mpm; 1/2 mile 10:00 mpm; 1/2 mile 8:20 mpm; 1/2 mile 9:30 mpm; 1/2 mile cool down); 60 minutes Yogalates; Taught and took Fusion Flow Class
Friday: Taught and took Fusion Flow Class; 60 minutes Spin class
Saturday: 60 minutes Master Class in Pilates (advanced); Pilates training workshop all day.
Sunday: All day Pilates training workshop (included doing some pilates). No running.

Wow...it appears that I worked out a LOT last week. I'm tired just reading about what I did LOL! Unfortunately my run mileage continues to be LOW. But I am getting a good amount of cardio into the mix though..so hopefully my endurance isn't suffering too much.

I started off slow this week but worked out like a maniac yesterday. Today my hip is sore but I think it'll be ok. I'm going to head to spin class and see if I can work out the kinks :).

Thanks for stopping by everyone! :grouphug:

Hi Amy!

Awesome week of workouts there!

As far as the cardio instead of the running...I really think that cardio is just fine, especially when training for shorter distance events (wow...you know we've really progressed when we think of a 15k as a shorter distance event). Nice to see you still incorporating speedwork into the mix. I assume it makes those treadmill runs a little easier to swallow.

Please be careful with that hip.

OK...scrapping the spin class today. My hip is very tender and very stiff :(. I have a chiro appointment later today...hoping he can put me back together. I feel like my left hip/pelvis is totally torqued; even my lower back feels tight. Sooo...I made the tough decision to back off spin today...just not worth making matters worse at this time. I may still try to get on the ski machine later...and possibly do some yoga and/or pilates after my adjustment. :confused3

My left hip has been an issue for me on and off for several years. It's a combo of bursitis, SI joint issues and pirformis tightness. It flares up occasionally....but was GREAT during Goofy training. So I'm trying to figure out if it's related to the increased cycling. Pilates is actually good for it....so I know that has no impact. It's just odd....acted up like this last spring too (no biking at that time). The other possibility is the increased treadmill use (HATE the treadie)....OR the increased speed work. Maybe my body just doesn't like the faster speed. Maybe my body is telling me...just because you CAN run faster doesn't mean you SHOULD! I'm also hitting more hills than usual. Ugh...wish I could figure it out.

First of all... :worship:. Not just because of the amount you do, or the variety, or the speed, etc. But because of your attitude. You always look forward to new challenges & encourage the rest of us to try new things. And you're practically a poster child for smart training--you take care of your body & tell us when you're backing off, like with the spinning, so that you can stay healthy over the long course. I tend to default into the unhealthy, old-school "no pain, no gain" mindset & so I look to you to make me smarter.

Second...PD for your hip & for figuring out what's going on. I almost hope it's the TM--you hate it, so it would be almost poetic justice, you know? Better yet, I hope it's something that can be tweaked so you don't have to significantly alter what you do in your training!

I hope your week goes well, esp. the appt. with the chiro, and that your Pilates training workshop was excellent! :thumbsup2

I'm glad things are feeling a lot better after your chiro visit today.

I know how difficult it is for you to have to refrain from doing a workout...I know how it bothers you...but I'm glad to see you following the advice given. The last thing I want to see is you injured any further.

Take the evening off and come back stronger than ever....relentless.

Hi, Amy. Thanks so much for the encouragement on my journal - I really appreciate it!

So sorry you are having hip issues. Hope it feels better after your chiro visit and doesn't give you any further problems. Glad to see you aren't aggravating it - you do SO MUCH training I am sure it would be easy for you to overdo and injure it further if you weren't careful.

Hope you have a great day!

Susan

Hi Amy,
Great week! I know that whole piriformis muscle/sciatica deal too. What a drag it is.
Thanks for your comments on my journal and yes this weather must go.I have had it with all the elements you mentioned-can we please just have warm sunshine everyday? Not to much to ask I don't think ;) My miles are way down, basically once a week.My clothes tell me it is not good.

I hope you resolve your hip issues.I know it is hard to take it easy I am that way too.
Have a good one,
Linda

Hi Amy,

I hope you hip is feeling better. I am really proud of you for listening to your body. I hope you figure out what is leading to the pain, so you can modify it.

I hope you have a great weekend.
Beth

Hey Amy!!! What is this I hear about Vermont and no power??? WOW! We had power, but the wind was blowing so hard, it blew the smoke from the fire place into our condo and it was horrible!!!

How's that hip of yours??? I'm so sorry to hear it's bothering you again! You do so much!!! Please take it easier on yourself. :flower3:

Hope you had a nice weekend!!! Check in when you get a chance and let us know how you're doing!!!

Hi Amy,

How's your hip feeling? I am so proud of you for listening to your body!:goodvibes

I hope you have a great week ahead! Take it easy if you need to.

Well...took my kids on a ski/snowboard "vacation" to Vermont. If your definition of "vacation" is "nothing going right" then yes, it was a vacation. If your definition of vacation is anything to do with fun....then this most definitely was NOT a vacation.

Starting with a horrible windy, rain soaked, flooding drive that took an hour longer than normal :(. Then lead to vicious winds that knocked out the power in our tiny cabin...causing the heat to go out....and freezing us all out LOL. Then....*sigh* the mountain was an ice rink and it was bitterly cold yesterday....so we had to skip the day. Then later in the day I got some miserable stomach upset that lasted for hours :(. So today we woke up to sunshine, less wind and much nicer temps until *cue the bad music*....

I got the dreaded loudspeaker announcement on the mountain today "will the parent of Jane Doe please report...". Yep...my DD10 had an accident on her snowboard and broke her wrist. Thankfully it was just her wrist. Unfortunately...she plays competitive travelling fast pitch softball... ....season opener is just weeks away. It's a TOTAL bummer. It's a relatively minor break...but it's her writing hand...her trumpet playing hand (spring concert just weeks away)....her throwing hand (softball)...you get the idea. Gonna' be a very long several weeks. *sigh* I'm feeling really bummed out right now...this has been the vacation from "you know what". Jinxed trip from the start with the crazy winds and power outages and flooding rains. I wasn't feeling well yesterday...now I'm sick to my stomach over my poor kids' bad luck. Again...with this sport it could have been MUCH MUCH worse. I am so thankful she's in one piece and wasn't carried away in an ambulance. I just have to focus on the good. I think it's going to be a very long drive home tomorrow .

I'll report last week's exercise later on. Just getting my head together right now.
