Has anyone had this happen? We are planning a one week cruise. On the Thursday we are at sea (near the end of the cruise, the 5th of the 7th day cruise), a new Disney movie is scheduled to come out. Will it be shown during the cruise? If so, do you think it will be shown before it comes out in the theaters at home?

Yes it will be shown during the cruise.probably Friday at 12:01 am.

It will be shown. They usually do a "Prem-Ear" showing at midnight the day it comes out. It will not be shown before it comes out on land.

We have seen two Disney movies that were released during one of our cruises. In each case, the premier showing was in the Walt Disney Theater starting right at midnight on the day the film was released. So, no it is not shown before it's released at home, but you will most likely get to see it very early on the day of release. The show time was actually listed as 11:59 pm in the Navigator for the day prior to the midnight release. This was helpful for planning, since you had the time and place information in advance.

When we saw Star Wars last year it was first shown on Thursday at 8ish, I think, for early dining, and 10ish for late seating. I could be wrong about that and it was that they had two different showings depending on whether you were saying 2-D or 3-D. But I do know when we saw the 10 o'clock show it wasn't the first one either because I couldn't get tickets or we were second seating. You did have to get tickets a couple days ahead of time by standing in line at guest services. I think so everyone didn't go at once. For the first movie we went to, the in line started 30 minutes before the doors opened, just to get a good seat. Then there was another showing at 12:30am. By that time the only people seeing it were us and members of the crew mainly the entertainment staff. We saw it in 2d at 10 , then again in 3d at 12;30. And then got up at 6:30 to eat breakfast and disembark!

I think it was shown before midnight because it was being shown on land before then, and because it was the night before disembarkation. Or maybe just because it was such a huge release with such huge interest.

We are going on the Disney Magic again this year to see Rogue One, but this time it will be released five days into a seven day cruise. So even though I suspect it will be released on land before midnight on Thursday, I'm not sure if they'll show it on the cruise before midnight.

I have seen a few movie premieres while on the ship and both times they did a special premier in the Walt Disney Theatre. For one of the premiers they handled out special buttons.

Well, the Star Wars release last year was a special event. They needed to do something to ensure that everyone got a fair shot at getting seats for at least one show.

Typically new releases play onboard the ships at 12:01 am the morning of the day it's released on land.

Do they do this on the Magic while it is in Erope? PoC opens July 7th in the states and wonder if it will be shown on our cruise.

Yes, we saw Inside Out the day it was released on a Magic cruise in Norway. It was a lot of fun to see it in a packed theater on the ship!

They sure do, at midnight on release day! They have done new releases earlier (see the Star Wars movie in Gator Mom's great post). They didn't announce why, so no one here knows of course, but there have been some guesses (basically it was special and crowded). But, based on past experience, you can depend on it at midnight. Enjoy!

We have never had to get tickets but I could see them handing out tickets for a huge movie like Star Wars.

This is a little Off Topic but I was so happy on the TA cruise that they showed old movies in the Buena Vista Theatre. We saw An American in Paris, the original Jurassic Park and the original Indiana Jones. It was awesome and Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones were packed!!!

Yes, at the midnight that turns the date into the day it's released in the US.

Thank you!! This will be so fun!

What about on a short cruise on the Dream? The next star wars movie will premiere on Thursday night and we set sail on Friday...i assume they do not disrupt the shows on such a short cruise, but will run the movie in the movie theaters? anyone experienced how this works with the 3 night Dream of premiere week?

The movie will play onboard in the Buena Vista Theater. It may also play in the Walt Disney Theater during times when there are not other scheduled events.

We were on the Dream last December for the Star Wars PremEar. On our ship the first two showings were based on early and late dining (eat dinner then go see the movie), and they actually moved the late dining time back to start at 8 instead of 815 to accommodate the movie. They then had a midnight and something like 5 am showings that were open to everyone. Note that Friday was arrive in PC and get off the ship day, so those late viewers were some sleepy people getting off the ship in the morning :-) Note also they canceled the regularly scheduled show that night to run the PremEar -- both theatres were used for all showings.

On land, the movie started showing at select theatres as early as 7 pm ET Thursday. It was our understanding that this is why DCL could show the movie on Thursday evening instead of having to wait until midnight Friday.

To the OP: expect that when they start showing the new release will depend on when it is being shown on land. IF there are Thursday showings DCL may have similar. However, most movies start on Fridays, with only certain "blockbusters" being exceptions.

They will show it but they will make it seem like it is a last second deal to make unsuspecting people feel like they are getting something out of the ordinary and magical.

The new live-action Beauty and the Beast comes out when we're on our Wonder cruise in March. I'm thinking that this move will be a big draw, so I'm wondering how they'll handle it.

Dr. Strange was showed in Dolby 3D at 10:30 on Thursday evening November 3 on the Magic. The movie was released on Friday the 4th.

Do they only show the new movie at midnight or will they do it during the day on release day for the kids? My 4 year old wouldn't make it through a midnight movie, nor would I more than likely. Moana will come out next week while we are sailing on the Wonder.
