rehoboth beach

Gracie..

Do you know if funland (specifically the rides) and places like Grotto and Thrashers stay open during off season? We would love to go down in the fall, but those are important for the kids. I get so many varying answers, so I figured I'd ask since you work there! Thanks.

Funland is not open in the off-season. Last year it closed I believe the second or third week in Sept.

Not sure about Grottos and Thrashers. I have a feeling they are open most of the year. Grottos does have other locations besides the boardwalk one that are open all year.

This is great information for me as well. We're going there for a baseball tournament next month. Sounds like we should have some fun!

Hi! Us too! We are coming from NY with our Federation Team.
We have a hotel booked but I know nothing of the area since this is the first year my son is on the team.

I'll print this info. out at work tomorrow and read it when home.

Thrashers main location, next to Dolly's is open all year long, however, their two other locations on the boardwalk are closed including the funnel cake stand. Grotto's on the boardwalk is open all season long, but they do have a few other locations one is in Lewes in between the Home Depot and Lowe's. Nice thing about visiting out of season is no meters to feed as parking is FREE!!!

Grotto pizza is open year round, as well as Nicola pizza. Thrashers will definately be open in the off season, and they have in October the Sea Witch Festival which starts 10/29-10/31 and it's really fun. All the restaurants will be open for this (Louie's pizza has some good sanwiches).
As for Dewey, they are pretty anti-gay there. You won't believe the fights that they have there and gay bashings. It's crazy. I don't even recommend children in that area at night.

Now you guys are making me want to go to Rehoboth! I spent many awesome vacations there as a kid with my mom and Stepdad. I could go for some Grotto pizza and Thrasher's fries RIGHT NOW! Maybe I'll have to make plans to get down there soon. I love Rehoboth!

There is also a Thrasher's location in the food court at the Dover Mall that is open year round. :thumbsup2 We go there every time we visit MIL.

For all you Nascar race fans that's right next to the Dover International Speedway and Dover Downs.

HOW many posts and no mention of Fractured Prune doughnuts?!?!!? You have got to try these- fresh and warm! We also like to hit Grottos, Smitty McGees in Fenwick Island (best wings) as well as try to get some fresh crabs! Yum!!!

We are also headed to Rehoboth for a baseball tournament this weekend. Be warned if you are staying at the Breakers- the whole team of 10 y.o.'s and their families will be there! ;)

Just wanted to add a few of our other favorites in the area in general for those who aren't familiar!

Candy Kitchen- I don't know what it is about this place but we all LOVE it! It's really just a candy store, but they have ice cream, make your own sundaes, lots of different candies in bulk including fudge and chocolate dipped items. Also some candy novelty type items, as well as a huge assortment of plush animals- TY, Webkinz, etc. It's what I would imagine a Willy Wonka store to be. These are EVERYWHERE. You'll see them every few streets- with bright pink logo- can't miss it.

Miniature Golf- The mini golf all along Coastal Highway is the coolest I've ever seen. They are all themed, lots of decor and obstacles. It has always made every other one we've been to seem pretty boring in comparison! The best are the Old Pro Golf Chain.

Fisher's Popcorn- Have to admit it's not a must do for me, but it is for most beach goers. Freshly made caramel corn with or without nuts. I like to eat a handful or so, but don't need a huge bucket!

Not sure if any of the other baseball families are going this weekend, but they just posted the schedule! (And if you're not- it's the Monday before your tournament at 5 pm.)

I have Fractured Prune on my list - think we'll grab some before we leave town.

going to rehoboth beach for a short vacation needs ideas where to stay, eat and things to do.

I didnt read what anyone wrote... but get some GROTTO pizza for me!!!!!! I used to live in Ocean City, but now live in NOrth Carolina, I would love some of that! Fishers Popcorn, also! oooohhhh Fractured Prune....

I completely forgot about the Fractured Prune! Those doughnuts are awesome. Warm and yummy! Dos Locos is a great mexican restaurant and the SummerHouse has awesome mac&cheese baked fresh in the oven!

I'm sitting in OC right now and LOVE visiting Rehoboth. I truly LOVE Thrashers. Without a doubt, the most amazing french fries ever created.

A fun shop to browse in...is Browseabout Books...it has a green awning and is on the main strip. It's not just books but has everything! Our kids also like the Rehoboth Kite store.

Grotto's is great for pizza. There are some cool toy stores as well. If you go "underneath" Hooters...there is a toy store that has a giant chess set in the courtyard...you can "play" a game there with pieces that come up to your knees! I love watching my ds and my dear nieces play! (They play much better than I do!)

So many awesome mini golf places in uptown OC...about a 1/2 hour from RB. I also recommend CRABS!!

Have a blast! It's supposed to rain tomorrow and possibly Wed...fyi.

There are a few different arcades on the boardwalk but the one at the end has the rides, arcade games, and then the regular games ie whack a mole, water gun races, etc. Im not sure how much the rides are but all the regular boardwalk games are fairly cheap esp compared to Ocean City. Whack a mole, water gun races, horse races, etc are all a dollar per person.

There are also 3 sets of outlets to shop at on Route 1 including a Disney Outlet on the North bound side outlet.

Be warned. Parking is usually horrible at the beach. If it is not a metered parking spot you are required to have a permit. You will be ticketed.

I dont care and am open to anyone and everyone but also be warned that Rehoboth is well know for their homosexual crowd so if that offends you or arent ready to explain it to the young ones you may wanna rethink your visit.

For an adults night out you may wanna try Rusty Rudder which is right next door in Dewey Beach. They usually have some great live entertainment.

Hmm what else am I forgetting..............?

Do you have a recommendation on where to park? We are staying a mile inland so will have to drive.

Next year my family is planning a reunion. There will be about 75 of us.

One of our last reunions we spent at Wildwood, NJ. We were able to find a place to stay that was hotel like. Every room had a couple of bedrooms and a full kitchen. They were all rented out by the owners. Is there anything like this in Rehoboth? It was great to have evryone stay in the same building.

Also, the group will consist of ages 3-70+. Are there alot of things for teenagers to do their. In Wildwood the boardwalk is about 2 miles long, so we knew the kids wouldn't get bored.

Also do they charge to go on the beach? Some beaches in NJ do and some don't.

Thanks, somehow I have been put in charge of researching and planning this and any info would be great.

I would call a real estate company for what you need - there were 1 or 2 recommended above in the thread.

I've been going to Dewey Beach area for about 15 years now.

Skipped this year to go to Disney instead.

All the PP's suggestions have been spot on.

We've always reanted condo's from Jack Lingo with never any issues.

Also, one place I didn't see mentioned for food was a local "hole in the wall" sub shop called Nick's in Dewey Beach. It's in the same plaza as Dairy Queen. It's a MUST stop for us every year, usually 2 nights for take out subs. Try the steak subs, they're the best I've ever had!!

I don't want to repeat a lot of what has already been said, but I just wanted to add our experience as veterans of the NJ shore.

We went to Rehoboth last year and had a blast. We stayed at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel, which is a little pricey, but it is right on the beach and on the north end of the Boardwalk so it is a little quieter.

For breakfast, it has to be the Crystal restaurant. Give yourself time because the lines are out the door, especially on weekends.

If you want to have dinner and try different beers, try Dogfish Head Brewery Restaurant.

For the strangest and best ice cream you can try, go to the Ice Cream Store on Rehoboth Avenue near the boardwalk. Try the bacon ice cream. It is seriously good.

Grotto pizza is a must try, but it is not for everyone. Most NYers think it has too much sauce (we did). It was very good, but just not what we were used to.

If you want to drive to Lewes (which is not far at all), I'd recommend dinner at Striper Bites and ice cream at King's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor.

Enjoy,

ClearScreen

Also, we loved Big Fish and ate there twice because they were super-sensitive to my son's food allergies. :thumbsup2

I'm only going for about 48 hours and I already have more restaurant ideas than I could do in a week. (From here, and recommendations from some other friends that are Rehoboth regulars.) I have on my list:

Go Fish
Fractured Prune
Royal Treat for b-fast (now I have to go check out Crystal though)
Irish Eyes, recommended by my friend for burgers
Grotto - have to go there
Thrasher's fries
Of course, saltwater taffy must be found somewhere as well.

Also recommended was Bull on the Beach and Ed's Crab Shack. but I haven't committed to those.

Clearly, we are going to be eating a lot!

The other recommendations my friends gave me was to ride the trolley down to Dewey, and also to down to the Indian River inlet where the bay meets the Atlantic (vs. going to Cape Henlopen State Park which was my original plan).

I'm open to any thoughts on any of that - just no more restaurant suggestions! LOL!

And thanks to the OP for starting this, even though I don't think he/she has been back to the thread at all. We are leaving tomorrow for our mini-vacation!

Dolly's down on the boardwalk for taffy.

What's a trip to the ocean without saltwater taffy :thumbsup2
