going to rehoboth beach for a short vacation needs ideas where to stay, eat and things to do.

We skipped Rehoboth this year to go to Disney. We have done Rehoboth every year, except this one.

Are you looking to rent a house or a hotel/motel? We stayed in a private home last year, and loved it! We searched in vrbo.com. The home we stayed in was within walking distance (a good walk) to the Dewey beaches, although we drove (much easier with kids). Dewey seems to be a little less expensive, and is right next store to Rehoboth. We have also stayed in the Henlopen Hotel, which is right on the Rehoboth boardwalk. That one was nice and offered a nice suite which didn't totally break the bank. I don't think it had a pool, though. We also stayed in their "sister hotel", which is off of 1st Ave. We really liked that one. It had a nice suit and a pool. The downside was that it was a good walk to the boardwalk...completely doable. I can't remember the name, although I'm sure I'd recognize it if I looked.

As far as good eats, be sure to eat at Jake's Seafood. There is one on Rt. 1, and another one closer to the boardwalk (maybe Maryland Ave.). Their bisque is to die for!!! We always eat at Nicola pizza (expect a wait) and Grotto Pizza. There is also a nice restaurant in Lowes (about 10 minutes) that offers a good meal and a boat ride/combo. I can't remember the name of it, but I'm sure you can do a search if that interests you.

We spend a lot of time in Fantasy Land on the boardwalk (games and rides). There are tons of mini golf places. There are also some nice water parks (although those are expensive). We've often done the water parks with their after 4:00 entrance to save a lot of money (family of 6, so every bit helps with us).

Hope this helps a little. We love Rehoboth!

One of the best parts about going to Rehobeth is that you are within a short driving distance to Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, and Ocean City. Sorry, I live here so I can't comment on where to stay in Rehobeth. As far as eats, all of my places are around the Ocean City and Bethany area. If you get down to Bethany we like Mango's and Cottage Cafe. If you get down to Ocean City, then that's a whole different story. A lot of the real estate companies now do weekend rentals if that is what you are coming for. I would suggest going through a rental company or vrbo.com.

I love Rehoboth beach! I always eat at go fish. They have the best fish and chips. When I go I usually just go to the beach all day then walk the boardwalk at night. For kids they have funland (rides and games) which is great because it's so cheap! Rehoboth beach is the only beach I like going to. Well other then AC, but I only go there to gamble.

How many people are in your party and how close do you want to be to Rehoboth Beach? Do you want a condo or house or...

We go to DE alot to visit MIL & SIL. Usually we stay in Dover (which is a cheap alternative and about a 1 hr drive to Rehoboth Beach on weekdays, longer on weekends when there's more traffic). Last year we decided to do something different and we rented a cottage at the Indian River Marina in Delaware Seashore State Park. They are beautiful, inside and out (tho all are handicap accessible, which means showers only). The price was really reasonable too. Sleeps 6 for $1,800 and we were a 5 minute drive to the beach, could bike or walk to the beach, go fishing right outside our door and were fairly close to Rehoboth, Dewey, etc.

PM me if you would like to see some photos.

I second Grotto Pizza, also Bull on the Beach.

Rehoboth has a great boardwalk. There are a few arcades places. Mini-golf, shopping, etc. are all right there. There is also a really good go-kart place on Rt 1, just outside of Rehoboth, I'll look thru my photos and see if I can find the name. We took the kids there last year and they have go-karts available for all ages. They also have a a water park.

This is great information for me as well. We're going there for a baseball tournament next month. Sounds like we should have some fun!

I live in Lewes, so Rehoboth is my backyard. There are tons of great restaurants to choose from in the area. Big Fish on Rt. 1 heading towards Dewey Beach ROCKS (it will be on the right hand side). Near the boardwalk try Nicola, Go Fish and even Grotto's pizza. Thrasher fries hands down has the best french fries, best ice cream would be Kohr's frozen custard on Rehoboth Ave. Crabby Dick's on Rt. 1 has really good food, but some of their decor I find inappropriate for a family setting. But Toyko House next to Home Depot has great sushi. Jungle Jim's is a water park on Rt. 1 but extremely expensive, we prefer Midway Speedway/White Water Mountain near the movie theatre. Their prices are better and less crowded IMHO. Best mini golf would be the Seashell shop, in front of Food Lion on Rt. 1. If you have 4x4 truck/suv you can always go to Cape Henlopen Beaches and drive on to the beach and park. It cost $4 for in-state and $8 for out of state. Hint: let some air out of your tires to get better traction in the sand, they have free air refilling stations as you drive off. Plus Cape Henlopen has old lookout tower from WWII you can climb up and get spectacular views. Plus we have outlets, so shopping is always an option. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

OK, so once again, the budget board is costing me money! After thinking about this thread, we tentatively booked 2 nights @ Rehoboth for later this week. My DH and I are both off, so we decided to take the kids over Weds-Friday if we can work out a dog sitter. My kids have never been there, and I haven't been for many years.

Enough rambling - the question(s) -
What is the price for the arcade/amusement type stuff at the Boardwalk? Is it all separate kiosks that you pay for everything separate? Are there tickets, or a one-price type thing? I'm trying to figure out what doing Boardwalk stuff might cost us.

And I'm open for any other ideas as well - we are staying on the Boardwalk and we will not be spending all our time on the beach, because we're not really beach-sitters. I have a Mid-Atlantic guide book around here somewhere that I'm going to find, but any help from all of you would be appreciated!

There are a few different arcades on the boardwalk but the one at the end has the rides, arcade games, and then the regular games ie whack a mole, water gun races, etc. Im not sure how much the rides are but all the regular boardwalk games are fairly cheap esp compared to Ocean City. Whack a mole, water gun races, horse races, etc are all a dollar per person.

There are also 3 sets of outlets to shop at on Route 1 including a Disney Outlet on the North bound side outlet.

Be warned. Parking is usually horrible at the beach. If it is not a metered parking spot you are required to have a permit. You will be ticketed.

I dont care and am open to anyone and everyone but also be warned that Rehoboth is well know for their homosexual crowd so if that offends you or arent ready to explain it to the young ones you may wanna rethink your visit.

For an adults night out you may wanna try Rusty Rudder which is right next door in Dewey Beach. They usually have some great live entertainment.

Hmm what else am I forgetting..............?

Thanks - we have free parking @ our hotel, so that's not an issue. As to the sexual preferences of some visitors to Rehoboth/Dewey, I'm well aware of that - not an issue (as a teenager, we used to walk down to Dewey and sigh over all the good-looking and unavailable men on the beach!). And I also know the Rusty Rudder, but we won't be doing that since we have our kids!

Thanks for the details on the boardwalk stuff.

The amusement park is called FunLand here is there website http://www.funlandrehoboth.com/ it has ticket prices and how many tickets are needed for which rides listed. I don't think it is expensive at all considering it is on the boardwalk.

you have lots of good tips-hope you enjoy coming to our area- good sale at the disney outlet- 60% of lots of items- was there last night:cool1:

Hi there!! I work in Rehoboth on the boardwalk. I can't help you out about the price of arcades. I can tell you the price of parking at the meters is 25cents for every 10 minutes.
If you have children, I would tend to stay away from Dewey Beach. Dewey is a party spot with many fights and drunks. Also, I don't know how you feel about gay communities, but Rehoboth Beach not only caters to families but also gays. I think it is extremely important for visitors to know this as some of them tend to get shocked when they arrive (if they are not comfortable with the gay crowds).
You didn't mention where you are staying, so are you staying on the boardwalk or within walking distance? If so, that will save you money on the parking meters. There are also parking permits that you can get when you arrive in town that are good for non-metered parking which is on the northend of rehoboth and the south end of rehoboth.
As for food, Grotto Pizza and Nicola is a favorite with the vacationers. Nicolas is great for the Nicoboli and Grotto's is great for pizza. Nicola's has a restaurant on first street (which always has a wait) and they recently opened a new restaurant on rehoboth avenue, and even have a walk up window. I highly recommend like the other poster going to Big Fish. Extremely kid friendly and fantastic food!! It is pricey though.
You can also check out www.rehoboth.com. It will give you information on things to do, places to eat, menus, etc.

My family has a long history with Rehoboth Beach. We've been vacationing there since my great-grandmother was a girl, my grandparents retired there and then I got married there in 2006.

I don't have much to add other than look into the Avenue Inn. It's not very budget friendly during the busy season, but the people there are wonderful. The room includes breakfast, cheese and wine during happy hour, and warm chocolate chip cookies at night. For houses, I'd recommend going through Coldwell Banker over Jack Lingo. Lingo tends to be more expensive and less helpful.

Have fun! Don't think I'll make it up there this year. :sad1:

You can also try the Atlantic Sands (right on the boardwalk and much budget friendlier than the Boardwalk Plaza) I agree with the pp, I wouldn't go through Lingo. I would try Coldwell Banker, Long & Foster or Prudential for house rentals. You can also go onto their websites, but remember this is peak season for the beach with the highest rates!

Gracie..

Do you know if funland (specifically the rides) and places like Grotto and Thrashers stay open during off season? We would love to go down in the fall, but those are important for the kids. I get so many varying answers, so I figured I'd ask since you work there! Thanks.

I thought it was Dewey, not Rehobeth that was the popular Delaware beach town for G/L travelers.

Grotto Pizza is my favorite pizza in the whole wide world.

We just returned yesterday from a week in Fenwick Island and stopped to eat at the Cottage Cafe on our way home. We did the breakfast buffet. We thought it was delicious. We'll definitely be going there again during a futrue trip. I'm glad you like Mango's. Ironically, we were thinking about going there too earlier in the week but didn't make it. Maybe we'll try it out during our next trip.

From what I remember - going back quite a few years - yes, that was the case - more so at Dewey than Rehoboth. But overall, it's a very tolerant vacation spot which works for me just fine.
