Rehitching Ceremony in Epcot???

Does anyone know what the Rehitching Ceremony is at The Garden Grill in Epcot? I was just reading about it but it doesn't give much information. Does it cost anything? What exactly is it?

The Rehitch ceremony is a just for fun event. A CM calls you up and asks both of you to repeat the 2 words you said "x" number of years ago. The characters, Chip& Dale, Mickey, Pluto, will be in attendence. This whole thing is done very loudly so the other quests in the restaurant can enjoy the festivities. After you both say your "I do's" you will be asked to kiss each other while everyone counts to 100 like this, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55,60,65,70,75,80,85,90,95,100. Then you are presented with a rehitch certificate signed by the CM who officiated.

There is no charge for the ceremony, but you must be eating at the restaurant to get it.

The best thing to do is make a PS and tell the CM that you want the rehitch. When you check in for your PS be sure to mention the rehitch and also mention it to your server after you have been seated.

I did the ceremony for my brother-in-law and his wife July 2002. We did it at lunch time and a special cake [one layer] was presented for dessert rather than the regular dessert for the meal at the land pavilion.
The cake was very good, it had a Mickey on top and congratulations. I told the cast member when I made the priority seating arrangements and also when I checked in before the meal.

It is a very simple thing that last aabout 3-4 minutes.

Yes, only at the Garden Grill. You can do it at lunch, dinner or during the Ice Cream Social. I recommend making your PS for a non-peak meal time... better opportunity for character interaction during the ceremony.
 
Do you really have to do it only around your wedding Anniversary or can you do it anytime?

you can do it any time. When we had it done last May another couple also did it. We were within a week of our anniversary, the other couple had been married for 3 days and they were on thier honeymoon.

I did the ceremony last May and surprised my DH with it for our 25th! When they told us to stand up, my hubby was so confused! My kids just sat there with their mouths hanging open!
People have reported differences in their ceremonies. For ours, our CM said our first ceremony had been done incorrectly, so we had to do it again. We said our "I do's" and then had to kiss while they counted to 100 (1-10 by ones, 10-100 by tens). We didn't have any characters present, and we didn't get a certificate.
We did get the cake, but I don't recall anyone reporting getting the cake during the ice cream social.
My DH didn't want me to make a single PS, so I asked for the ceremony when we walked up to get a table (we went during a non-peak dining time)!
 
Debs5angels, thanks for posting this question here. I asked it on the restaurant forum and didn't get any replies.

We are going next month (YIPPEE) and I'm interested in this for DH and myself. We just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary last week but couldn't get time off to travel until Feb. (Mardi Gras vacation in New Orleans!!)

I'm thinking about doing it as part of the Ice Cream social, though. I wondered how embarassed my kids might be. They are DS-12 and DD-8. They told me they were too old for character meals and autographs now. I wasn't sure how much of a to-do it would be.

It actually sounds like fun to me...I always wanted to "renew our vows". This sounds like a pretty fun and informal way to do it!!

The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

I made a PS for the Ice Cream Social and told the CM that I wanted the Re-hitch. I then asked for the direct phone number for the Garden Grill and called them later and had them check my PS to confirm that the Re-hitch was on it [it was]. I checked again at the front desk when I checked in for our PS.

We got all the characters at our Re-hitch and Mickey actually sat with us for a few minutes. And it was not easy to do all this verifying without letting my wife know what was going on but somehow I pulled it off. She had no clue that I was pulling anything until we were being shown to our table.

If you do the Ice Cream Social you do not get the cake.

Debs5angels: Where did you read this information? I have never heard of this and would love to surprise my wife on our trip in March. We ate at the Garden Grill on our 2002 trip and didn't see anyone doing this.

If the information came from a book, could you let me know.

I found it on the following site. But they didn't give much information on it. Thats why I asked about it here. I knew I would get the information I needed. By the way, what a great husband you are!! Thanks for the info, however, I approached my wife about eating at the Garden Grill and she said she wasn't too thrilled by it the last time we ate there, so not sure what I'll do, but I'll figure something out.:scratchin

My 15 year old daughter knew what I was planning and she feels bad that mom doesn't want to eat there.
 
We did the rehitching ceremony when we went last summer. I surprised my husband with it to celebrate our 12th anniversary of when we started dating. It was reaaly cute and our daughters got a real kick out of it. Our oldest took pictures for us! However, we did not get the cake, which was a disappointment. I don't know if it's just because they were so busy or what.

I think you do have to be persistent if you want the rehitching ceremony. I requested it last Dec. when I made a PS at the Garden Grill for the ice cream social. The CM I spoke with wasn't familiar with it and asked someone else who said you couldn't do it at the ice cream social, just at meals. But then I read on the DISboards that you can do it at the ice cream social. So I called back and asked the CM to put it down with my PS. When we showed up at 3:10 on a Sunday afternoon, I mentioned it to person at the front who said it was noted next to my name. Since it was a surprise for my husband I didn't say anything to the server, and we enjoyed our ice cream and saw the characters and...nothing. I was a bit disappointed, but noticed it did seem busy at the restaurant, and since I wasn't paying anything I let it go.
Well, I just made another PS for the ice cream social for our trip in April. When I asked the CM about putting down the rehitching ceremony he transferred me somewhere else! Turns out it was Guest Services, and the person told me that I couldn't do the rehitching ceremony at the ice cream social. :rolleyes: Anyhow, I may just ask for it when we show up, and see what happens.

Laura. I surprised my wife with this last May, and it was at the Ice cream Social. No one ever told me that they would not do it at the Ice Cream Social and in fact they did do it.

There was a couple at the next table who were there on thier honeymoon. When they saw our ceremony they asked the CM if they could have one also and he said sure and then did it for them.

So as I said in an earlier post, the squeeky wheel gets the oil. So if you ask for it [several times] you will get it.
