regular schedule or "vacation" schedule

I find it helpful to stick close to a routine. I have DD1&1/2 and DD4. My oldest daughter would do fine in terms behavior without naps on trips, however she would become increasing more clutzy. We would say that she was a danger to herself and others.

It really all depends on the kids. With mine I do better making sure they get naps. Staying up late is never a problem. They can sleep in a stroller if they get too tired. They don't usually get overly cranky when they stay up past their bedtime.

Have a great trip!

We're going early Dec w/ our 1 and 4 yo's. We're bringing strollers and hoping they can both sleep in them while at the parks. Fortunately the parks don't stay open really late this time of year, so most nights we'll be done at a reasonable time. We are doing the MVMCP, but that's all we have planned that day. We won't hit the park until 4pm, so hopefully they will have a light morning and good nap that day.

Sticking to strict schedule is not necessary for most kids. Some do horribly when off-schedule and tired, so that would be a deal breaker for those w/ sensitive kids. I'm not sure how ours will fare. The 1 yo doesn't seem to ever need sleep and can fall asleep in the stroller if tired enough. The 4yo needs sleep and is a good sleeper, but may not fall asleep in the stroller. I'll just try to listen to their little bodies and adjust our schedule accordingly. I think having flexibility and sensitivity to the little people is the most important part of a happy vacation, anywhere!

Hope you can reach an agreement and enjoy your trip. Maybe experiment 1 day and see how it goes.
