Regular Parking Lots (non-Valet) at the AKL

Are they located quite a distance from the guests room?

It depends on your definition - but I don't think any worse then any other resort.....

I have heard that the regular guest parking lots at the Grand Floridian are quite a walk from the main building. I was wondering if the same was true for AKL. I am used to the value and moderate resorts where you can park very close to your room.

When I stayed at AKL we did both Valet and Parking ourselves. The parking lot is right out the front door of the hotel, down a flight of stairs, cross the road and to the right a bit.

So its an easy walk, unlike the parking lot at the Grand Floridian which is like a 10 minute walk away.

I would compare AKL to the Wilderness Lodge in distance of walking to get to the car.

There isn't a huge parking lot at AKL, that's one of the reasons they limit car access to the resort. We never had trouble finding a spot though. We went in June 2000.

BTW: I am not counting the time it takes you to get to from your room to the door of the hotel, that of course differs depending on the location of your room.

No. They aren't far at all. Parking has never been a problem for me there.

The access to the AKL is no more restricted than many others, and less so than the Poly or Contemporary. There used to be no admit for any other than resort guests and those with PS for dinner. That changed quite some time ago. You can gain access to the resort simply by telling the guard you want to go in and see the resort! They may (usually do) issue you a parking pass for a limited amount of time (probably three hours) but you will be able to enter.
