When I say regular, I mean weekly... not commenting on any mental capabilities... before someone jumps all over me.

I had been church hunting for about three years, checking out different churches looking for the right fit. I was new to the whole church scene and tryign to figure things out. (me and my family... not just me.)

Finally found a church that was great for our kids! Loved the childrens pastor and the program... and began as a volunteers (both me and hubby) in that department for about two years. Then, we took some time off volunteering to attend the regular adults church.

Trouble begins. I do not like the main pastor of the church at all. Everyone falls all over him and just loves him. But, I cant concentrate on a thing the man says. His presentation style obviously doesnt match my learning style. I feel like he is not genuine, but thats just my opinion. I feel STRONGLY against this guy.

What would you do, and why?

Is there a different service offered? An early service on Sunday or a different service maybe Saturday evening or even Sunday afternoon? Since you are so comfortable in your church, are you willing to leave?

This is going to sound ugly but we go to a Catholic church and it's very hard to understand a couple of the priests because English is their second language. We try to go to a service where another priests is presiding. Don't get me wrong all the preists are wonderful people but if I really want the message without constantly trying to understand what he is saying, we try to wait for the priest we understand.

I think you might want to stop and ask yourself what is the reason you go to church in the first place. Is it to have a good place to send your kids? Is it a place to meet friends and have a good time socialy? Or is it a place where you can grow in your relationship with Christ.
If church is only a place to go and socialize than you probably could stay where you are and simply involve yourself in other activities. But, if your main desire is to grow in your relationship with Christ, and you cannot do that where you are, than you just might want to consider finding a place that you can do that. I understand that the other things are important as well, but I believe that first and foremost should be your spiritual maturity. If you cannot grow in this church, regardless of all the other great things it may offer, do you really want to make this your permanent church home.

Perhaps you could meet with the Pastor. Sometimes getting to know somebody better actually helps understand where they are coming from, and helps to accept what they say. I know that if I feel that somebody is fake or that they don't really mean what they say (Do what I say, not what I do), then I have no respect for them, and I won't be able to listen to them.

If you are happy working with the youth and won't miss the adults, I would go back to working with the youth and maybe see if you can find some small groups to get involved with.

Its sometimes hard to find a church where your kids are comfortable, so as long as they are doing well, thats what I would go with.

To me, the sermon is one of 3 main reasons to go to a church (worship and fellowship being the other 2). If I didn't mesh with how the sermon or worship service is conducted, I'd probably find another church. But that's just me. As you know, The Church is imperfect and all churches are imperfect. One has to overlook and accept some imperfections, just as we hope others overlook and accept our personal imperfections. But if the problem is so fundamental that you aren't able to worship and learn, then that's a bigger problem.

I totally understand what you are saying. There are a few churches near me that have great young adult programs that I would love for Dd to be involved with. But, I don't particularly care for the pastors. For the time being, I attend regular services and Sunday school at my church, and am thinking about just allowing DD to participate in the youth activities at another church. Hey, we are all serving the same God, so it shouldn't matter where we worship! Also, not everyone delivers The Word in the same way, and that doesn't mean that something is wrong with them or us.
