Regis and Kelly: Nothing more than a BIG Disney Commercial

We can be jealous of celebrities and the privileges they receive, but it's as a result of us watching them and the hopeful result of us booking a trip -- and we do.

You know, I really would not want to be a celebrity at WDW. Like our KTTK tour guide told us, the celebrities are whisked in and out of secret areas, not truly able to experience the true Disney magic.

Can you imagine not being able to walk down Main Street, smelling the popcorn and stopping into the Emporium to shop without the whole world bugging you? How sad is that ? ? ?

Well if we lived by your philosphy then none of us would be on here talking because 99.99% of us are NOT in the Disney parks but very emphatically voicing our opinions of the parks and the ongoings.

Personally i do have a problem with the fact that PAYING individuals are in the parks waiting for a ride and a celebrity gets to stop the attraction to ride BY HIMSELF. It also says something about the celebrity. If I were a celebrity (and I'm not and may think different if I were, but if I did think differently I would seem if fair to follow with this response.) I would feel embarassed if they made everyone stand there and wait so I could ride an attraction by myself. One time I was at Disney when there were NO crowds and was on Test Track and it broke down. When I cam back through they offered me another ride, but there were people waiting. I felt so guilty to make those people stand there and wait, I got up and let them go and didnt take my extra ride. Now there would have been nothing wrong had I done it, but I just look at them and think, how can they not think that is "over the top?" The same people standing in those lines being held up are the same reason they have the fame to be able to do that.

Different perspectives are a wonderful thing.

If it were me, I'd have taken the free ride and thought nothing of it. The reality is it's not going to be a HUGE inconvenience to people standing in the line. They're going to wait a few moments longer for the next car...

Quite often celebrities are taken onto rides via back doors and provided front-of-the-line perks because of who they are. It comes with the territory -- along with the papparizzi and autograph hounds and stalkers... My feeling is if they have to put up with all that, give 'em a sprinkle of pixie dust and some extra magic when they visit the Happiest Place on Earth. It could be worse -- the powers that be could shut the whole park down for the day for the celebrity.

I also like to think that "hey, my tush might be where that celebrity's tush just was".

Forgot to tape the show this morning but I have watched all the others and I am disapointed because I feel they do not show enough of Disney. Yes, I am interested in the guests on the show but I wish they would show alittle more of what is going on (and be knowledgeable about everything). On the first show when they did Disneyland - Then and Now - and showed Disneyland as Then and WDW as Now - and said it was Disneyland - that was just too much for me. The clips they show are too short - although I though Kelly interviewing all the kids was too long - too much of the same thing.

I am glad they are there this week because I will be there one week from today and hope to enjoy my time there (although it would be cool to see them walking around the park - even if it is with all their people).

What did you expect? Also how do you know he rode and made others wait? He and Kelly could have ridden the rides before the park opened.

I guess according to you they shouldn't have featured Disney because someone might have been forced to wait a few minutes. Guess they need a disclaimer, No guests were made to wait in the broadcasting of this TV show.

I don't even understand these complaints. Regis and Kelly are not the first people to get to go to the front of the line. Do you think that when Princess Diana visited in the early 90s that she traipsed through the park and waited in line?

Does it stink that celebs get front of the line access? Yeah, sorta. But like someone else said, as celebs, they lose the Disney magic that we all get to witness.

For Regis and Kelly, what they are doing this week is a job. They are being paid (by Disney in the first place) to promote Disney.

Really, let's be honest, how is the two or three minutes that it takes for a celeb to board a ride really gonna affect your day.

This is gonna make me really unpopular, but I see the complaints made by several posters as nothing more than whining (and let the flames begin).

I enjoy Regis and Kelly. I enjoy Disney. To see Disney on Regis and Kelly, it's is magical.

I saw the show today that will be aired tomorrow. He also said with Magical Express Disney will take care of your luggage while you head to your CAR or bus. He also called it Disneyland once.

The Regis & Kelly Show is produced by Buena Vista Television, a division of Disney. So why wouldn't they plug their company?

I really really really really can't stand Kelly Ripa. Its like watching an SNL parody of a morning show. (morning latte...will ferrel and cheri oteri.... )She's so STUPID. (yet smart, because she (along with Jessica Simpson and Pamela Anderson) is totally profiting over the whole blonde ditz thing, When i act this way, my boyfriend just roles his eyes )

That being said, her promoting Disney is like me hearing about them ripping up 20,000 leagues. Its just not right.

Number C: I agree with DVCLiz. Its a TALK SHOW. I dont know what people thought they were gonna do.... Have a two chairs on main street and just film the whole thing there? No...their gonna show them riding rides, eating turkey legs, im sure Regis will have some sort of tift with Mickey, and we'll all slap our knees and laugh.

ABC OWNS Regis and Kelly, and i dont mean figuritivly (sp?) I mean if they want Kelly to jump through a fire hoop into Mickeys Arms, while he's standing on Regis's shoulders, as he juggles eggs. Theyre gonna do it. $$$$$$$ Or they dont receive their paychecks.

As for the 'its not fair to shut down the ride so celebs can ride issue...' how many times have you been to a ride, and its 'seasonaly shut-down' or their doing 'maintaince' or it 'breaks down'. Sometimes a celeb shows up, and they want to ride the ride with their kids, without their children (or the celebs) being tramatized. Do you think theyre gonna put a sign outsite that says "VIP RIDING RIDE - PLEASE CHECK BACK LATER" ?

No. Theyre gonna lie, and tell you it broke.

While you might not rip off Johnny Depp's clothes if you saw him in public, i'm willing to. So Disney has to protect him from people like me. So he and other celebs get to ride alone for their safety.

Its a way of life. It will probably never change.

You might want to get the entire story before you get so indignant. Many times – most times – the stars ride with everyone else. They have a guide with them to help manage autograph seekers or star-struck fans, but they ride like everyone else. Sometimes, if it is a major celeb (Bono, for example), Disney prefers that they ride on their own for the celeb's safety and comfort -- there have been cases of hoards of people literally fighting to ride with certain celebs.

In Regis’ case, they were filming a scripted segment, and they did several takes inside the ride vehicle. While that vehicle was being used for filming, the other one was taking guests. Each guest in line during the time that the other car was occupied by the Regis crew was given a free Fast Pass to use at any other ride at MGM at any other time during the day. They were given this to compensate them for their inconvenience due to the filming and for having to stand in line a bit longer than normal.

As for the difference between PAYING individuals and non-paying ones ... I sign my family and friends into the park or give them comp tickets to use. They do not pay. Should they, then, have to stand aside and make sure the PAYING guests get on rides before them? And how should they check that? Do they ask people for receipts?

You were offered a free ride because you were inconvenienced. The fact that you chose to not use it has nothing to do with a celeb riding a ride by themselves. I think most people, upon hearing that you were offered a free ride for a legitimate reason and turned it down because you felt "guilty," would probably think THAT was over the top. I do. I think you’re trying to play a whole “holier than thou” card on this by showing how selfless you were, thereby proving how stuck-up Regis was. But really, the two situations aren't at all the same.

I see nothing wrong with the plugs - they should have just gotten them right. And as far as "front of the line access", if it were being offered to me I would take advantage of it. As it was said, they are there filming and on a job - they can't have the film crew wait around for an hour while Regis is on line to film him on a ride. My only complaint is I wish they did a little more on DL and WDW - like giving more historical info and pictures. I guess they did give some but to us Disney adicts - it is just never enough.

Yeah its one big Disney Commercial. DUH but is it really?? I was only able to watch it yesterday and thought they didnt show enough. Yesterdays guest Bill Pullman from tv show Revelations(NBC), today was Wilmer Valderamma 70's show(FOX) and Rob and Amber from Amazing Race/Survivor(CBS), tomorrow is John Cryer from Two and half men(CBS).

I love watching the Regis and Kelly show and make sure I watch it if it is coming from Disney. Kelly has already mention couple times that she has taken weekend trips to disney for her kids birthdays. If Mickey Mouse signed my paycheck I would be there as much as I could too. They filmed these shows on the 2 slowest days of the week, you dont think they did that on purpose?

Do you complain when you see a Disney commercial on TV instead of one of those stupid GEICO one?

BTW I will be visiting the Mouse and all his friends this weekend and if Regis and Kelly want to get in front of me on a ride I will be more than happy to let them.

And I forgot to add about the ME. Yes your luggage is suppose to get there before you do. Here is how its suppose to work. You arrive at the airport, then get on the bus. There you are taken to your resort and check in. From there you are to load a bus and go to one of the parks or DTD or wherever. Yes if you go straight to your room from there, you will probably beat it. But that is what they mean when your luggage will arrive before you do.

He was describing where he at dinner last night and couldnt remember the name of the resort until finally someone off camera had to tell him "Contemporary" and then said "that fireworks show". Not that I want to be critical. I really dont expect him to know them all. he is a workoholic and never vacations evidently but just found it funny.

Well - if he is a workaholic then knowing what he is talking about should be part of that work right?

I was listening to Kelly talk about all the stuff she did in one day with her kids and I actually felt sorry for them. They were all over the place. AK, MK, hotel, restaurants and obviously she spent time filming segments with the crew for the weight loss segment in all the parks, plus she did first have to do a show. OK--maybe "sorry" isn't the best description, but I felt like they must have been so rushed, you just don't get the Disney aura that way. So yes, they do have the privilege of going there often, yet, to me, it's just not the same when you're working. JMHO.

I have heard Kely say in the past that she wants her kids to wait in line with everyone else at Disney. She doesn't want them spoiled and think that they don't have to do things that the rest of the world does.

I was in the park once during the holidays while regis and kelly were filming for the christmas parade. I saw her husband mark, and their son heading for the pooh ride with their guide. This was when pooh was still a new ride. They definitely didn't wait in line, which was really long that day. They got to bypass all the people and get on right away. They seemed very rushed to get from one ride to the next. It's kind of hard to not notice mark consuelos, lol.
