Regional Ice Creams that you LOVE

KwikTrips NATURE's TOUCH Cookies and Cream!!!!!!
Fellow Wisconsinite here!! :thumbsup2

To piggyback off of this, there’s an ice cream flavor called Blue Moon that (correct me if I’m wrong), is only popular here in the Midwest!! Kwik Trip’s “Nature’s Touch” brand has a great version of this. It’s super sweet and delicious, and the flavor is up for interpretation. I think the “official” consensus is almond- like an almond extract flavoring. I think it tastes like Froot Loops :)

Tillamook ice cream is delicious but it's expensive so I buy it when it's on sale. Price Chopper had the Central Market Brand which was great but they switched to Pics brand which isn't as good.

For anyone in CA that had Crystal, my son reminded me of one that we had always gotten that I don't think they make anymore. Butter pecan. Anyone see that one anymore?
I do remember Crystal Ice Cream because my dad would buy us a lot of it and Crystal had really good vanilla ice cream and my mom would always get butter pecan because that's always been her favorite flavor. I believe Crystal went broke but they had great ice cream. Does anyone remember Beatrice Ice Cream? That was a brand sold in Minnesota and was made by the very same Beatrice company that had the commercials that said "We're Beatrice" and "you've known us all along" was another one of their slogans

I saw that Hudsonville had a Blue Moon flavor in Walmart but I had no idea what is was and not sure I wanted a whole half-gallon of it, but it would be fun a birthday party!

Anything by the seaside is always the best, I can't remember the name, but I had an incredible jaffa cake ice cream once!

Ice Cream-my big weakness!! There is no bad brand.
That being said, I grew up in Hood country, and recently spent a week back here (Cape Cod-or rather "The Cape") and it tasted as good as I remember.
But where we live now, my favorite is HEB Creamy Creations, coconut almond or candy bar or java chunk or dulce de leche or.......

Blue Bell ice cream out of TX is my all time favorite. It was a glorious day for me when they started distributing it where I live now.

I messed up. It was maple nut ice cream that we all liked from Crystal.

Ted and Wally's. It's made from scratch and they use a lot of local ingredients. They have so many different flavors that they rotate through. I'm not vegan but some of their vegan options are really good and I often prefer them to the regular stuff. They often have weird or unique flavors. For example, around the holidays last year they have "Booze N Nog" and "Marshmallow Sweet Potato Pie."

From the outside, it's not much to look at. But I love this place!

I miss the creamery that was on my college campus. Ferdinand's on the Washington State University campus was a great treat. Miss my their grabbers and huckleberry ice cream.

We love Tillamook. It is not from our area but based in Oregon. It is the best I have bought in any store.

There's been some controversy over their products not being made in Tillamook County or even in Oregon at all. They've advertised about the unique conditions in Tillamook County, but a lot of the dairies they use are in inland parts of Oregon. And I think their ice cream tends to be made outside of Oregon by someone else, although they supply the recipe and specifications.

I would have thought someone would have said one of the uber expensive places like Salt & Straw or Humphry Slocombe. However, just as an old fashioned, they don't make it like that any more, I would thing the original Swensen's in San Francisco, which is the last one in the United States still using the name. They aren't really affiliated with the current company with the trademark name, which operates completely outside of the United States. And I remember when there were Swensen's shops all over my area, and where they would make the ice cream on site where you could usually see the machine.

I've enjoyed some pretty good ice cream in the LA and OC area. When the kiddo and I went on a few trips, we each researched places to get ice cream. In LA there was Mashti Malone's in Hollywood. Apparently it's operated by immigrants from Iran where it's more a Persian style ice cream with flavors like rose water. The name was one of the brothers who started the business and Malone was already on the sign of the previous tenant. So the name came from reusing the sign to save money. I've had some interesting ones like cherry. On another trip we tried a different Persian ice cream shop called Saffron & Rose in Westwood.

There's another one in the OC area called Hans Homemade. We've only been to the one at the Anaheim Packing House. Really good, although my kid was disappointed they didn't have licorice, but settled for ube. My reading of their history is that they use the same basic recipe from Swensen's where their founder was a former franchisee.

As far as other places go, I've heard of the Berkey Creamery at Penn State. Supposedly really good and they use it as a testbed for food science.

Ag schools with food science departments make some of the best ice cream! Shout out to Cornell and Michigan State: AWESOME ice cream when we were there!

Shady Glen. It’s an old school type restaurant and they make their own ice cream. They sell it in at their restaurants and a handful of grocery stores in the area. If you are traveling through CT try it. They are also known for their cheeseburgers and have been featured on the Food Network. I don’t have a picture of the ice cream but this is one of their burgers.
That brings back the memories! I grew up in Shady Glen territory (a few towns over)- there were two locations when I was a kid, and it was always our "after dentist" treat. We also had Friendly's, of course, as that originated not too far away in central MA, as well as Hood. I didn't realize Hood was regional until I left New England. Hoodsie Cups were a childhood staple.

I have returned to New England and while I live in the land of Gifford's, I live in a touristy beach town, so there's no shortage of ice cream shops that make their own. Everyone seems to have their personal favorite. I'm still on a mission to discover mine, and have quite a few to try this summer so I can make a well-researched decision on a favorite.

One more mention- a local flavor I didn't realize was so local until recently. Grape nuts. You can get grape nut ice cream and grape nuts as a topping at many New England ice cream shops. Delicious.

Having a wife that grew up in Oklahoma and living here now, I have to put a plug in for Braum's, which is a regional brand based in Oklahoma. I am a huge ice cream guy and a huge traveler, so I have had ice cream all over the world. Braum's is truly some of the creamiest ice cream I've had, utilizing their own dairy in rural Oklahoma. And it is so affordable, the banana split pictured here that we had last night was only $4.50.
