regarding WDW transportation in the annual budget

I have a question, and I'm sure you all can help!

I just read through the agenda for the annual meeting and reviewed the budget, which, shamefully, I admit I've never read before :)

Why do our dues fund the WDW transportation for the resort? I guess I understand for OKW (since its only intended for DVC members - except for those units rented out for cash), but I own at BWV and BCV. From what I gather, these resorts share transportation with other non-DVC paying guests at the adjacent resorts. Additionally, we all know that people park their car to access the parks (and sometimes later in the day the buses) from BW. Can someone explain why this is so? Our dues are very expensive, and I certainly don't mind paying them. I do, however, have a problem with our dues funding programs designed for actual other resorts and guests.

The only thing I can come up with on my own would be that we get additional buses for both DVC and the hotel. But, given the wait times at the bus stop over the past few years, I'm thinking that's not the case. :hyper:

Your wisedom is very much appreciated!

DVC pays its share based on how much of the resort it is. At BW, where its a significant share of the resort, the transportation budget is pretty high.

Hotel guests pay for their "free" transportation in their room rates. People who park for the day at the resort are scamming and shouldn't be doing that.

The transportation budget includes gas, maintenace, oil, insurance and probably paying the drivers - so it isn't just more buses, its maintaining the ones they have.

You don't pay for ALL of the transportation to and from the resort. You pay a pro-rated share based upon the ratio of cash guests (or rooms) to DVC.

The same holds true for other amenities like the front desk, housekeeping, valet, recreation (pool), etc.

With regard to other guests (DVC or not) abusing certain aspects of the system, there's really no way to eliminate it altogether. There was a thread earlier today regarding people headed for Downtown Disney who were filling the OKW busses to capacity. Then you've got cash guests who will pool hop (supposedly prohibited), DVC members who do significant damage to their rooms, and so on.

If you identify specific problems, you're always welcome to bring them to DVC's attention. But realize that there is little they could do to police things like the exact example you provided (guest parking at BW and walking to Epcot) that wouldn't cost EXTRA dollars to administer.

Not to mention the boats at BWV / BCV. ;)

Thanks for the quick responses! I guess we're all up late thinking about WDW!

I certainly don't have a problem with the dues, it just truly peeked my curiosity to review what I'm actually paying for....Thank you for helping me understand it better...

And just to rub it in, I'm on my way home in less than a week! I cannot wait!!!!!!:Pinkbounc
