Regarding the Guest Assistance Card..

Hi again!

Last year when we were at WDW, I brought a letter from my son's doctor, stating that he had autism and was unable to wait in long lines, and I didn't need it when I requested the GAC.

I just was wondering if that has changed or is still the case, that you don't need proof of your child's disability? I just want to be sure, so that if I do need the letter, I'll be sure and get one so we don't get stuck with a screaming kid. Eek.

Do you know if this is the case?

You do not need the note from the doctor for anything including the GAC. They just want to know the limitations of the person not what a doctor said. They legally cannot even ask for proof of disability.

If you brought one they are not allowed to look at it anyway.

They can look at it if you offer it, but they can't ask or require one. Many CMs do not look at the letters, even if offered, because they are not medical people and the letters are usually not very helpful to the CMs.
The ADA (American with Disabilities Act) says that you can't be required to proof of a disability in order to get help meeting your needs.

Great, thank you. I just wanted to be certain, so that I didn't get stuck without it if I needed it. Autism can sometimes be one of those "invisible" disabilities, if the child happens to be calm, anyway.. and I just wanted to make sure that no one would question whether he was a special needs child.

I would never get a GAC if we didn't truly need one, but maybe it's crossed some people's minds that someone would. One doesn't like to think about it. *shudder*
