I just happened to think about this: I have heard that housekeeping does not enter a room that has a pet in it (thank heavens!). How do you pet owners handle the day to day stuff like towels, trash, etc.? Do you make arrangements to be at the room at a certain time for abbreviated cleaning or do they simply stack your replacement towels, toiletries, etc. out side your door?

I'm not sure how its handled, but we called housekeeping for a few things when they didn't get replaced during our stay, so you could probably go that route.

We called housekeeping after checking in and let them know we had our dog with us and that we'd call down for towels, etc. at night to be brought up. I make the beds in the morning anyway, so I didn't need that. They took our old towels when they dropped off the new.

Thanks, that was what I hoped. He's never been left in a room alone (we'll put him in a crate just for our peace of mind), and I'd hate to come in and find that we'd left him in the crate and they (housekeeping) let him out to play and he had destroyed the room (yes, he has issues:) ) out of boredom. Or worse case scenario, he escaped the room :sad2:

OMG! We have to crate 2 of ours because, even though there's 3 of them, they STILL have separation issues and get into things. Ever hear "while the cat's away, the mice will play"?. That's my boxer's!!!

Believe me, housekeeping will in no way be playing with him. They are petrified of dogs and mine was just a baby when we took him 2 years ago. I remember one would hide behind her cart and almost whimper when we walked by. I felt bad, but I can't imagine someone bringing a vicious dog to a hotel.
:confused3

Me either. I'm not saying he won't bite, I'm just saying he's an idiot :). If the door is open he's going to run out, and then it becomes a game of "you can't catch me" with two hysterical little girls screaming and crying. I had him microchipped for that reason.

I understand about while the cat's away...... His favorite thing is to raid the trash can (we have a compactor again because of that). He also steals socks (kids can't put anything in the hamper), loves to tear up paper (napkins and kleenex are favorites, preferrably dirty :sad2: ) Total wacko. It would be just like him to lift his leg on every stick of furninture and shred all pillows out of boredom.

we were thinking of bringing the cat, but he gets into everything and always grs when someone goes by .. and if the door opens, watch out because there he goes.

We are taking our Shih-Tzu with us this weekend and are staying at the HRH? Ours will be in his crate while we are out of the room. So housekeeping doesn't come in to clean?????? :confused3

That's my understanding. I'm cool with that, rather have a messy room than a gone puppy! Our Shih-Tzu is an absolute whack job, he has no clue about stopping, will run until you catch him or he allows you to :sad2: Bad doggy! As I tell everyone, it's a good thing he's cute 'cause he ain't too bright!

rcraw - your Shih-Tzu is cute!!!!!!!!!!!! Mine is 13 and doesn't do anything other than eat, sleep and, go potty.
I wonder if they will come and clean your room if you are there? I like my room clean. I guess I will call and ask.
Did you get your good health cert? I got mine this weekend, sure hope its what they want/

It's never been a problem on our visits. In our case, we were always there when they showed up. Housekeeping would knock, we'd talk with them, usually give them a $5 tip, they get all happy, make the beds, and replace all towels. When you see housekeeping in the hallway, talk to them and set it up.

Melisa1, my vet faxed me his entire health record today. I called the Portofino directly and told them what I had and they said it was fine. :)

robvia, that is what I hope to be able to do, catch them and get things straight. Do they tend t come around the same time daily? I know with the Disney properties there was no telling when housekeeping would come. We actually had a weird situation at the YC in April. We came back to the clean room around 2:30 to rest before dinner. Around 3:30 there was a light tap on the door. By the time I got across the floor to the door the maid was opening the door with the passkey. I'm standing there like "HELLO, we're in our clean room..." SHe gets a little testy, wants to know why we didn't have the DND sign on the door?! :confused3 I'm like, we don't have one. SHe actually brought us one and put it on our door. Don't know to this day what that was about. :confused3 :confused3

At RPR & HRH (haven't yet stayed at PBH), I was given a sign (like a do not disturb sign) to put on the door indicating there was a pet in my room. When leaving the room, I'd put my cat in the bathroom with all the "stuff" she needs. I put the pet sign on the outside of the bathroom door along with my own sign letting housekeeping know she's in the bathroom and to please not open the door. I place all used towels outside the bathroom. The room is cleaned and clean towels are placed on the table, chair or bathroom counter. This plan has worked out really well each time. I go back & forth from the parks and room quite often so I always let her out of the bathroom whenever I'm in the room.

My Mom has stayed at RPR a few times with her dog, Jasmine. She leaves Jasmine in the room and places the "pet" sign on the outside of the door. She'd return back to the room to check on Jasmine sometime during the middle of the day. As soon as she'd get to the room, she'd call housekeeping. When they'd get there, she'd take Jasmine out for a long stroll to allow the housekeeping associate to do his/her "thing". On days where it wasn't convenient for her to do so, she'd just catch housekeeping in the hallway and exchange the dirty towels for clean ones and make her own bed. :)

Thanks Allie. That sounds about like what I was thinking, put Scruffy, in his crate, in the bathroom. That way, if they do come in, he'd be restrained in another room. The long walk idea sounds good too. BTW, can you take a leashed small dog around the pool area? My girls asked, wanted to know if he could come sit by the pool wit hme while they swam.

You're welcome. At RPR & HRH, we were told that pets weren't allowed in the pool areas. I'm not sure about PBH, but can only assume that it'd be the same over there. I hope you & your family have a wonderful vacation! :goodvibes
