I have been reading through some posts regarding these 2 dining plans. We have never done a dining plan but have pretty much had our meals in the villa or paid cash. Being DVC members, can we get the DDE card at a discount? We are not AP holders. What is the cost for adults/kids for the DP? We always eat breakfast in the room. Lunch is always on the go and dinner could be in room or on the go depending what we do that day. We have 2 adults, 11y.o, 7 y.o. We may also be taking a 15y.o. with us, but that is not definate at this time. We are going 3/28-4/6. Thank you...

The DDE card is only available to FL residents OR all annual passholders. It is not avalable to non-FL resident DVC members unless they have an AP, and no info has been released (yet) that would indicate that is changing this year. The "Dining Plan" which will be available to DVC members beginning in April is (per day) $37.99 for adults, and $10.99 for children aged 3 to 9 (maybe $11.99?). It must be purchased by all people in the room, and for the length of your stay.

Funny, this is the way I understood it also (and still understand it this way!)
but while standing in line at Ghiradelli's I overheard a man telling a woman about the DDE and how great it was and how it was for DVC members. I mentioned that it was for AP holders and FL residents only and he told me that they gave it to him and he is not an AP holder or a FL resident.

Go figure...

When it first came out last year, they did sell it to some non-AP holders by mistake.

The DDE is going up to $60 starting 1/1 (effectively now because the DDE office is not open tomorrow).

From what you have written, you probably would not benefit from either plan. The DDE is great to have if you do a lot of Table Service restaurants, especially if you order alcohol as that is also discounted. A meal at the California Grill, for example, can pay for the card in one sitting. However, if you are planning to eat in your room or on the go, you probably don't need to spend the $50...plus the cost of an annual pass.

I haven't done the DP...DSis has a DDE card...but from what I understand, the DP is good to have if you and all members of your party eat most of your meals out...as you have credits for CS, snacks and TS. That doesn't sound to be the case with you, so you would probably be better off paying out of pocket.
