? regarding colors of cancer ribbons

I had seen online that the different color ribbons represent different situations/cancer....

Is there a general color for people who are fighting cancer?

Now I was thinking it was Yellow.

For General Cancer awareness, but I found out why when I went to the site, it lists it as the colour for the Canadian Cancer Society.

I think alot of these might be regional

I think that's because the idea didn't start from a generalized ribbon or even different colored ribbons for different causes. I think the red ribbon used as a symbol to fight AIDS was the original idea and the only ribbon. I remember actors wearing them on their outfits at the various award ceremonies one year, as being the first time that idea came out. It was so popular for AIDS that then a pink one came out for breast cancer... then a yellow one for... then a blue one for... so each organization to fight a specific cancer chose a color.

The American Cancer Society (which is for general cancers) always had their own symbol, "the twin-serpent caduceus, which forms the handle of the sword, emphasizes the medical and scientific nature of the Society's work. Classically, twined serpents represent healing of the sick and creativity of the healthy.

Since 1928, the American Cancer Society has used the sword as its symbol as it continues to champion the causes of cancer prevention, eliminating suffering from cancer, and saving lives."

General ribbon is purple. Generally if you see a purple ribbon (usually light to medium toned) it means that we all fight together. You then get specific cancers and their ribbons, like gold for childhood, yellow for bone, orange for leukemia, etc.

PS - Whatever you're doing with the cancer ribbon, thank you. As a survivor, I just have to say that.

The Lance Armstrong bracelet is for all cancers and it is yellow. When my granddaughter was at Children's Hospital, the "Armstrong" group came in and gave all the kids t-shirts and Livestrong Bracelets. The kids (and their parents) thought it was great.

When two breast cancer survivors came to my house after my surgery (they were sent by the American Cancer Society to give comfort) they brought me a yellow wrist band and ribbon. They both wore pink wrist bands, but said that yellow was the general color. This was after Lance Armstrong's LiveStrong bands came out. I still have it and look at it often although I always wear pink.

I lost my dad to agressive prostate cancer almost 3 years ago. Very sad. Blue for prostate cancer.
