just wondering, will an 18 yr old girl, be able to participate in Common Grounds, and activities planned for teens at CC?
Traveling with 9 teens (13-17) and 1/18 yr girl. Just thinking ahead of time that if she can't participate I'm afraid the other girls in our group might not either feeling too bad to leave her. Any suggestions/advice is always welcome.

Thanks

Our DS LOVES Common Grounds and he will be 18 for two weeks when we sail on the ship. I have not mentioned to him, yet, that he may not be able to go to Common Grounds.....we disagree about enough things....PLEASE help.

I believe, based on the experience of a fellow DIS member on the cruise with us, that they have to choose which way they want to go if they're on the cusp like that...they can do the teen stuff, but then need to stay out of the "adult" stuff...or they can do the adult stuff, but then need to stay out of the teen stuff? I'm not sure, because my two are too young and I refuse to let them ever reach the age of 18!! I'm sure someone will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong... :teeth:

I do believe that an 18 YO can go to Common Grounds, but as stated above, they then are not allowed into the Adult areas. You can't have it both ways, so if an 18 YO wants to go Common Grounds, they have to realize that they can't go into the adult areas, like the adult pool, the spa, night clubs, etc.

Try not to let them reach the ages of 14-17.......was not fun.
Have another one coming thru that age block.
I know my son would choose Common Grounds and not the
adult areas (his parents might be there!).....thanks for the
update.

*sob* My DD is 11, going to be 12 in July, and is already "there" I think. If it gets worse, I'm taking a LONG nap...and waking up when they're all grown up and can take care of ME instead! ;)

My DD was very close to being 18 on her first cruise and 18 on her second cruise. She had no interest in Common Grounds since the kids were "little" according to her. She hung out with mom and dad for the most part.

On the cruise when she was 18, she recognized some underclassmen from her high school. She also became friendly with another DISer's DD who was in her age group who had a younger sister. Both my DD and her new friend did stop in at Common Grounds from time to time, but my DD didn't care for it much.

There's no way that they're going to stop an 18 year old from going to the adult areas simply because they've gone to Common Grounds. If they bring the entire teen entourage with them to a nightclub, yes they can turn the under-18 year olds away, but not the 18 year old. They're entitled to be in the adult areas, dine at Palo's, etc.

It wasn't an order, I believe, but a request...something along the lines of the 18 yr old being seen in the teen club, and then again at night in the adult only club...as I said, I'm trying to remember the exact details, but I think that was the reasoning.

my son enjoyed common grounds on our previous 4 cruises so this past summer i was concerned that since he was 18 on this trip he would miss being able to go to common grounds. well he loved being an "adult" and using the adult areas and outlasted me and his sister in the night clubs and had a graet time and is really looking forward to this summer doing it all again.

Am I the only who noticed the thing about the NINE teens?

I'm sure your cruise will be eventful, for a multitude of reasons :)

Thank you The4ofUS. I couldn't imagine the 18 year olds having to make a choice, not to mention the difficulty in identifying which ones visited the teen club as well as participate in the adult activities.

My experience was the same as tigger53. My DD loved being considered an "adult" and she really enjoyed the shows. We still laugh when we talk about "Pub Night" in Diversions. It was the perfect ending to a great week. I'm so happy that she was old enough to go. :D

Hit me here.....hit me there.....21 or bust!!!! Ahhhh....British Pub Night was great!!!!

My DD was just 18 last year when we cruise but was an 18 yo high school senior and was in Common Grounds off and on. Enjoyed it when she wanted to and loved being old enough to go to Palo, etc. also. This year, in fact this Sunday, she will be an 18 yo (though turning 19 on the cruise) but is an 18 yo college student and she said she def. won't be in Common Grounds. I think being 18 and in high school compared to being 18 and in college is a big difference. Also, she doesn't have any friends cruising with her so maybe if she had friends that were also in CG that would change her mind. Whatever she chooses, she will have a great time. Notice that my college student STILL travels with us and continues to do Disney with us -- we are so happy to have another family vacation together. We know it won't be too much longer and she'll be with friends only so we take what we can get.
