Regal Sun Across from DTD???

I am thinking about staying at Regal Sun (formerly The Grosvenor) across from DTD. Got a good rate from Book It, but holy cow the reviews on Trip Advisor are pretty bad.

I have actually stayed there before in 1998 when it was The Grosvenor. It wasn't great, room was okay, but the location was perfect, we loved being able to walk to DTD. Hotel was older, but it was clean and staff was great. From recent reviews I read, it actually sounds like the place is worse since the remodel! What is up with that. The hotel has such a great location, it's a shame it gets such poor reviews.

1. Anyone know if ALL the rooms have been renovated? The Book It deal is for a "Traditional Room" does this mean "not re-done?" I don't mind that actually, older is fine, but it's gotta be CLEAN.

2. Read this on another review...$40 a night? What is this about???

*Incidentals Charge - On top of the resort fee, the hotel charges a $40 per night fee for incidentals. When I called to ask if I could put this charge on my debit card, I was told it could be several days after check out before the hold could be released. I asked it if could put down a cash deposit and I was told that I could. During our stay, we had breakfast in the restaurant and used room service for one night. When I checked out, they had deducted these charges as well as the daily resort fee and refunded the difference in cash.

I got a really good deal $75 a night total with tax and everything, $15 resort is waived through Book It, but I just can't decide if that is even worth it going by some reviews I read at Trip Advisor. Has anyone stayed there recently? I would appreciate any thoughts or comments!

It sounds like the $40 "fee" is really a credit card hold. Since this person seems to have been using a debit card, the $40 hold was tying up actual cash for the duration of the stay.... use a credit card and this isn't much of a problem, I'd guess.

I can't say much because I've never stayed here, but we were just inside the hotel to rent a car on Feb 8. The lobby looked very nice with new wood floors (or pergo/psuedo wood) as did some of the other facilities and the location is one of the best of the DTD hotels. However, when we went around back to pick up the car, I couldn't help but notice, some rooms have some pretty crummy views of lots and walls and fences out back. Not sure if your rate includes requesting a better view or not, but I'd try for one unless view doesn't matter to you. Sorry I couldn't help any more than that.

We stayed there in March 2008. We enjoyed the stay. The location of this hotel is great--it is very easy to drive to the parks from there. On the way back, just follow the Downtown Disney directions. I really didnt appreciate the $10 resort fee, as we spent most of our time at the Disney parks and didnt use any "resort facilities". Also we were told we would have a view of the Disney fireworks. While we had a very nice view, we didnt see any fireworks the whole time.

Now the resort fee is $15 a night. Ridiculous. Why not just put it into the price of the room? So, you see a deal for $79 a night, then you have to tack another $15. The deal I saw waived the $15 fee otherwise I wouldn't even be thinking about it.

I stayed here in October 2008. I had stayed there many years ago when it was the Grosvenor as well.

As long as you have a "tower" room, I think you'll be o.k. The rooms in the wings are the ones I've read the most complaints about. Now, it's obviously an older hotel (think the textured look on the wall paint) but the room was nice enough and I really love the location. I think the resort fee is ridiculous and if you got it waived, that's great.

Would I stay here again? Yes. Mostly because of it's location and my kids loved their pool area (which has all been renovated).

Oh, and on the "incidentals" fee. I told them when I checked in I would not be using the phone or internet nor ordering room service and they did not charge me the fee.

I stayed at this resort back in December. It is very large and actually quite nice. Rooms are pretty comfortable and the pool area is pretty neat. We got a good deal on this hotel with Book It also. The only bad thing is I would not order room service. It really isn't all that great and pricy. We only got it because we had a free $50 room credit we needed to use, but if you are a fan of RS, I would skip it here.
