Does anyone know if you can refuse the finger scan based on PRIVACY ISSUES?? Thought I read that if yu are willing to show valid ID ( drivers license, etc) they can not force you to do the FINGER SCAN?? Just curious as to DISNEYWORLD policy.

If Disney believes you are too disabled to use the finger scan, they can request ID be shown instead. OTOH, Disney has the right to refuse to allow entry into their property to anyone. If you refuse the finger scan (which is not taking a fingerprint, BTW) Disney can refuse to let you in.

I'm having flashbacks to Larry from Dharma and Greg, he was always afraid of "the man" getting his personal information. LOL

The finger scan is not taking a fingerprint. It's merely measuring the size of your finger. Which isn't at all unique. I honestly don't see any privacy concerns with this.

The new scan doesn't work ANY better than the previous one that "sized" up your fingers.

I stand there holding up the line..............rolling my finger around and around until it registers it.

I think there are more privacy issues with having to show a DL & ID than giving Disney the finger.

My thoughts exactly.

A computer that selects an interger based on the size of the bones in your finger, versus giving someone your photo ID with name, address, and important, vital personal info (some states even put SS#'s on them).

Disney is not collecting any data on you. When you put your fingers in a scanner, it measures a couple of bones in your fingers, and uses those measurements to assign you a number. As this is not data contained anywhere else and contains no personal identifying information, it is not a violation of privacy.

It's not Disney being nefarious and trying to violate you - they are just following the law, which says people are not to share multi-day theme park tickets. Unfortunately, the abuse was so rampant, and in order to offer MYW discounts to EVERYONE the way they did (so many people forget that Disney tickets are cheaper now than ever per-day) they had to step up enforcement.

That said, yes, if you really object you can use your ID - but it's really not a privacy issue. Disney maintains an extensive database on it's customers [they can tell you each and every planning video you ever ordered, where you've eaten (if you've used your room key), where you've stayed, how much you've spent, etc. etc.] that would blow your mind; the finger bone scans are the least invasive thing they do, really. My personal financial information is much more valuable than bone measurements in my fingers that no one else has on record.

You can legally refuse to scan your finger;Disney will then ask to see your photo ID.

Actually, that's not fully true. Yes, Disney will ALLOW you to use your ID to override it, because of their customer service, but they are under no obligation to do so.

It's not a legal issue. Disney can do whatever they want before allowing you entrance to their privately owned theme park. There is no constitutional right to go to Disney World, LOL. They can require you to wear a pink hat, or to crawl down Main Street on your hands before gaining entrance. If you refuse, their only legal responsibility is to refund your ticket price and escort you off premises.

So yes, they will allow you to override it, but it's not because of the law.

So whats to stop me from using a ticket refusing the finger scan giving just ID and then letting someone else do the same.

Do all the standard tickets have a name on them like My APs or even the KTTK have on them.

In other words do they then link that ticket to me in any way once I refuse the finger scan. They should make you go to GS and have it printed with the ID holders name.

Not that I would do this but it just seems like an easy way to cheat the biometrics.

You can refuse to use your finger and disney will gladly let you in...however, if you think providing disney with your driver's license gives them less information about you than the finger scan, which doesn't take a finger print, just a size measurement, then you're goofier than the big guy in the green hat.

(copied from another post)
Handrails, seat belts, doorknobs, etc. have a lot more germs on them than the finger scanner has.

>>> give the finger.
Your middle finger will work in the one finger scanners provided you use that finger all the time until the ticket is used up.

No special procedure is needed when using a one finger scanner for the first time after using the two finger scanner, or vice versa. The system remembers a code for each kind of scanner.

NewEnglandDisney has some very valid points. Whenever I call Disney World, they know everything about me. I give them my email address. They probably have the technology to easily hack their way into my life. The finger scan doesn't do anything for them. And I think it would be more of a pain as a guest to keep refusing the scan and having to show ID every time.

LOL.

And, again, Disney collects so much information on people, the finger scan interger really is the least of it, if one is actually worried about such things. They can tell you just about anything about your visit - make a complaint at guest relations? It's in your file. Order a planning DVD twice in two months? In y'er file. Eat a pretzel from a wagon and pay with your room key? Yup, it's in there too.

In essence, Disney keeps what amounts to a proverbial "permanent record" of sorts, of all the data they collect about you from your first phone call to book to your last exit from their property.

That said, I could give a fig about it - if Disney wants to collect info on me to market it's Disney-crack so be it. I don't do naughty things at WDW, and since I'm not worried about the Mouse ratting out to the Feds that I once ate a burger at Restaurantosaurus and then went back up to the counter and bought a hot dog too (I WAS HUNGRY!), I do okay.

We'll be there a few days I before we check in at BWV. Do you think if we request to get our tickets put on our room keys, that it would be starting a new biometric scan?

It amazes me that in this day and age of terrorism anyone with nothing to hide would refuse to have their fingers measured. Personally I like the finger scan for security and am amazed that anyone would refuse. JMHO

I may be wrong, but I do not believe that you can put partially used tickets on room keys. The only type of ticket that would have an existing scan would be one that had been partially used.

We have always lived in an era of terrorism. That should never take away our privacy.

I'm a privacy nut - not because I have anything to hide - but because I value my privacy. Just because you don't value your privacy the same way, please don't put down people who do. Everybody places value on different things.

I have no problem with the Disney scanners because they aren't particularly invasive. But if, say, they took an actual fingerprint, I'd refuse. And if that meant no Disney for me, so be it.
