refurbished PC's?

Has anyone purchased a refurbished computer. I was looking online at refurbished PCs from Dell and Gateway and they seem like good deals, but kind of worry about the "refurbished" part.

Our computer is a refurb, we got it at Circuit City.

Refurbished can mean so many things. Sometimes a machine is bought and returned within the return period, but since it was "used," it has to be sent back to the factory, checked out, and then resold. Others are like what you describe, they had a part replaced.

Our "refurb" was one that a customer returned. They had had it for nearly the full time allowed. It is the best computer we ever had...plus, since it was a refurb, we got a great deal on it.

I wouldn't stress out over buying a refurb, just make sure you have some recourse if it does turn out to be a lemon, and that it has some kind of warranty.

I can personally guarantee (for Gateway anyhow) that refurbs are top-notch computers, just returned ones. If they are returned with a damaged part, that part IS replaced before it is sold. They go thruogh STRICT tests before they are put out... I know, I work for their tech. support!

I am on my refurbished Gateway laptop as we speak This is my second one and I am very pleased with them. I think as long as it is a reputable place and you have a decent warranty you are all set. WIth Gateway you get a 1 year waranty which is awesome
