Refurb at Contemporary?

Has anyone heard about a refurb at the CR main tower running from April to Sept 2021?

First, no I have not heard anything.

Second, please be the Incredibles makeover we saw a preview of last year (I think). :D I know we don't love IP here, but it looked sooooo good. Fits in with the theme of CR too.

I'd be supportive if it is subtle or focused in only some of the rooms

Would not be a fan of it is all over and in your face/replaces the Mary Blair mural

This is what we got to see...I would hope they wouldn't replace the Mary Blair mural! But then again, who knows...

I saw someone on Lines (touringplan) mentioned this yesterday, his/her agent mentioned booked CR room is not available anymore, and they got a list of alternatives to move to.

Oh wow. I guess something is happening.

Hmmm, they can't finish Tron, can't finish most everything at Epcot, yet they can do another hotel refurb?

Do Disney usually close down the whole resort this long for refurbishment? (I think DVC do it section by section instead.)
Would the restaurants still be open? Also if both Poly and CR is down for refurb, will they consider shutting down the monorail altogether?

I have 2 days at BLT in August, starting to get a little concerned about this.

Check on the resorts board. I read a post that said shops/restaurants will be open.

Looks like people are being moved to Grand Floridian.

Ha! That was my post from a while back when I was trying to look into booking. 😂. I didn't think to check to see if anyone else had any updated information.
Also. Sorry for repeatedly asking. On my end it stated that it couldn't post my question, so I kept hitting "post reply" 😬. Clearly it was posting my question....over and over.

Ha! That's funny! 😂

Nope, it's needed, but I haven't heard anything yet. I was just looking at tower rooms earlier today for late May/early June (not booking, I was just looking around at prices with the AP discount). If they're doing a refurb they definitely aren't shutting down the whole tower (but, after my christmas trip and the room we got it is VERY MUCH needed and I hope it is true)

EDIT: I was curious so I went and looked, and nothing is showing now except for garden wing, so forget what I said lol. Too bad they couldn't have done this earlier, really would have been nice for our trip......just a tad jealous.

Hmmm. Did they actually tell you that TPV were first? Did they happen to give you an end date?

I have a TPV early Sept and really don't want to have to change it.

Having asked that, how long did the Poly Reno take? Did they do ALL rooms as well as the GCH? Just trying to get a feel for how long this will take and if there's any chance we can keep our reservation.

Thanks!

I would wait for an official announcement of which rooms will be first. Phone center CMs aren’t the best with info.
Poly renovation is still ongoing. Been going on since mid Summer and will run through this summer.

Well, my info came after the CM confirmed with two supervisors.

I had called because I wanted to see:

1.) if it was true that guests with April CR reservations were being relocated, and if so, why (i.e. refurbishment, make space for NBA players, etc), and

2.) if my reservation for a Tower Lake View room from April 8-10 would require a re-booking elsewhere.

The CM put me on hold for quite a while and when he came back he said his supervisor confirmed that CR rooms were being refurbished starting in April, but that they were beginning with Park View rooms, so my reservation was fine, because those rooms weren't scheduled to start refurb until May 15.

I then offered to have them proactively move our reservation to GF to free up a Lake View room as an option for any Park View guests who would have to be moved but had their heart set on staying at CR. He put me on hold again for quite some time and said that he had checked with a 2nd supervisor about my offer, but was told that there were still Lake View rooms available on those dates, so there was no need to free up my room.

He did say that the refurbs would continue until September, and that BLT and Garden Wing rooms were not affected. He also said the work was scheduled to be done during daytime hours (presumably while other guests were in the parks) to keep the inconvenience to a minimum.

So, take the above info with whatever care you are comfortable with.
