I made the mistake of purchasing my airfare too early, and now the price of my exact flight has gone down $40. (Why do I always time this wrong?! :guilty: ). Anyway, the Delta website says that you can get a credit for nonrefundable tickets for the amount of the difference, but a fee applies. Does anyone know what the fee is? Just trying to figure out if it's worth it for me to spend a half hour on the phone with these people.

Thanks for any help.

The change won't be worth it. I believe the change fee on the cheapest (non-refundable) flights is $100 per ticket. On their discounter Song, the change fee is only $25 per ticket. I'd recommend calling and asking. If it turns out to be just $25, you'd still be ahead $15 per ticket, which isn't too bad.

This happened to me before, also with Delta, but I can't remember if it said that "a fee applied" to changing the tickets. Anyway, they refused to give us a refund , but I did end up getting a voucher for the difference. I used that on our next trip. 30 minutes on the phone was worth it to me :) Good luck

Delta used to give vouchers if the price dropped without a fee. Now they charge a $100 fee for even price drop vouchers.

So now you need to just wait for a price you are comfortable with, then book it, and don't look back. It is very unlikely that your fare will drop more than $100.

If the new lower price is for the fare code you originally booked (T,U,Q,L, etc) then you can get an electronic voucher for the fare difference for use on a future flight. I did this earlier this year with Delta (twice for the same flight) and there is no fee associated.

Good luck!

This was the case until recently - maybe about four months ago? Now, regrettably, the fee does apply. I was fortunate enough to receive a voucher sometime last spring, but the same situation would no longer work since the change.
