We were thinking about how we are going to keep our baby formula cold - and how we were going to keep the bottles cold at the park. So if we use our little bottle thermal pack that you have to use with the little rectangle refreezable ice packs, how do we keep those frozen? Will resort refrigerators have a small freezer section? We buy those big ready to use containers of formula that you refrigerate after opening.

We're staying at pop century, and havent requested a refrigerator as of yet.

TIA
Laurie

Be sure and request the fridge asap as they can not be guaranteed and are first come first serve. The price is 10.60 per day and unfortunately we have never had one with a working freezer, they are more like a dorm fridge.

Perhaps you can get some of the single serve bottles of formula for your park days or try powder. I used powder as it was easy to carry a bottle of water and then mix the powder as needed. Since dd drank formula room temp rather than warm this was ideal for any daytime outings.

We actually bought our own at a garage sale and brought it with us. We balance it on top of the luggage with the long retractable handle and roll it to the room. Disney has no problem with this as I e-mailed them to make sure. As long as you have the small one it is fine. Depending on how long you are going for pricewise you may come out better buying it -- if you are driving that is. We got ours for about $35.00 at a garage sale and have used it for 3 trips so far so I figure I saved about $250.00 buy not renting the Disney one.

I know that Disney will provide you with a refrigerator FREE OF CHARGE in two situations - - - Medical reasons or for storage of breastmilk. I breastfed my kids and I know they were more than accommodating with the fridge. I don't see why they wouldn't provide the same service for families with formula concerns. Maybe not but it would definitely be worth asking. Good luck.

If you have no way to keep your bottles cold in the park and you can't get yours packs froze, maybe you could pack it down with ice from the hotel before you leave. When you get back to the hotel that afternoon replace the melted water with more ice before setting back out. - - - - - Maybe the CMs would also replace your pack with new ice at the parks.

We just returned and had a fridge at POFQ. It had a working freezer section. We froze some water bottles to take to the park.

Renting a freezer is expensive ... it cost me 53+ for 4 days in January. And it was one of those little "cube" refrigerators. Next time I'm going to stop at Wally World, buy a cooler and fill it with ice from the ice machine.

I'd suggest switching to powdered formula. I used powdered formula for my two kids and my two grandkids ... it's cheaper than the canned liquid and more convenient ... just put the powder in the bottles and add water as needed or have water in the bottle then add the formula, then shake.

If you decide to switch to powdered formula I'd make the switch a few weeks before hand.

Just an fyi, Disney rarely provides free dorm size refridgerators for medical reasons any longer - to much abuse! If you do get one it will be for medicine only - the size of a shoe box and definately no freezer. If you really want/need the fridge be prepared to pay and if it is comped then consider it a bonus.

We also used the powdered formula for my granddaughter, much more convenient !

Be sure to try powder formular well ahead of time. Picky DS would NOT drink it. You can get single serving size ready to feed cans . While expensive, very easy and nice. WE were at a resort this week-end, not WDW :( , and had a small freg. We had a hard time getting the temp right. Too warm or froze our stuff. You really have to be careful if milks involved. It was fine for our can drinks. Good luck!!!

If all you wish to do is freeze a couple of chemical ice blocks so that you can keep something cold in the parks, the simple way to do it is to get a small paper bag with your name and room number clearly marked on it. Put the blocks in the bag, tape it shut, then take it to the resort restaurant and ask them to store the bag in the freezer for you. Then claim it in the morning. Same thing the next evening. Wrap the blocks in paper towels if you don't want them to clank.

Why not make your own ice packs by bringing a box of small ziploc freezer bags and filling them with ice from the resort each morning. I also strongly recommend that if you want to use the powder that you should try it at home. I tried giving my youger ds formula made w/powder once and he wouldn't drink it. I think that the consistency is different than the ready made and some babies just won't take it. Good Luck!

I see a good number of DisBoarders have mentioned A Baby's Best Friend now has small refrigerators for rent, for much less than the resorts charge. We have used ABBF many times in the past, but have not been to Disney since they began carrying the fridges.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the ideas. I will talk to dh about it and see if we can pull off the making our own ice packs thing. Then we have a rental car and have to stop for groceries anyway, so we can get a styrofoam cooler or something like that and keep the opened jug of formula back at the room packed in ice in that for the day. As long as we keep on top of refilling the ice when it's melting we should be ok. 10$ a day will add up , and we can put that to paying something else!!!
I know he'll say just get the refridge - but if there's no freezer part to it it's useless for our need anyway.

Hello...

We had the same problem.

We used the freezer packs but they melted FAST. We brought along a ziploc bag and kept refilling it with fresh ice throught the day at different food stands. They were happy to help.

Hope this helps.

We always use a strafoam cooler and a good filling in the am as well as one in the evening keeps things VERY cold. We dump the water once a day.

My sil uses single serve ready to feed formula, comes in 6oz pop top cans for trips like this. Perhaps the brand you use makes these as well.

Good luck - makes me glad my dd's liked powder formula!

I know my sil uses single serve ready to feed for trips when she can't keep it cold. Perhaps they have those in the brand your baby likes. The ones she uses come in a 6oz can with a pop top. Good luck - makes me glad my dd's liked powder formula!

::yes:: ::yes::

It's cheaper, easier, more convenient for travel's sake, etc! I took 4 bottles/nipple sets since that's how many DD drank during the day. Each morning put the right number of scoops in each bottle and put them in the bag. When time for a bottle, just put in the right amount of water and was all set! Back at the hotel that night I'd wash all the bottles and let them dry overnight to be ready for the next day :) So much easier than stressing about keeping things the right temperature.

EVen better, most brands have single serve pouches of formula so you don't even have to load the bottles first, or so you can bring the water with you if you won't be somewhere you can get water (we did this for bottles during car rides so we didn't have to stop). Put right amount of water in bottle...when time to eat, tear open pouch of formula, pour in, and shake!! TOO easy! AND, one of our grocery stores carried those pouches for the same cost as a big can :)

If you are going to do powder formula - you might want to bring/buy bottled water to mix it with as well.

ok so how big are they really. We are staying at the Grand Floridian and have a fridge, how big is it and what type of milk, soda, water etc will it hold
