I've been on 2 disney cruises and if I remember correctly the stateroom refrig was not very cold and not a true small refrig. We're bring our 15/16wk old on the cruise and there are times (spa treatments and palo) when my parents will be watching him. So I'll be pumping bottles for them to give him and if I get more then what I need for one bottle I want to be able to refrigerate it. I can't help but not want to waste the pumped milk. But I'm thinking the stateroom refrigerators are not cold enough to store breastmilk in but I'm not sure. I think I recall reading you can request a true refrigerator for your stateroom but I'm not sure how to do that or even if they would give it to me for pumped breastmilk.

Thanks

You can fill out a medical form and ask for a real refridgerator. I don't know if breast milk qualifies or not, that would be something to call disney and ask, then your dr would need to fill out form and you would just fax it in. Otherwise, bring some ziplock bags and ask your stateroom host to keep ice in the fridge, it make it cooler if you keep the ice in there.

Yes, you can get one. Babies qualify for the use of one. Did you know that freshly exspressed breastmilk is good for 10 hours at room temperature though. I love what our bodies can do. Good for you to think about it ahead of time and I am very happy you appreciate your liquid gold. ;) So yes just request it, but know that if it is freshly exspressed it is good for 10 HOURS at room temp. When I hear my girls say they pumped and it was left on the night stand over night and they tossed it in the morning I :scared1:. So know if you are just leaving baby for a bit, then your milk is good and grandma does not have to hassel with the warm up.:thumbsup2

Oh BTW, the fridge is placed under your vanity table, so it does take up the space of the chair.

First of all, your initial instincts are correct... the "referigerator" they give you will NOT be able to cool the EBM fast enough to prolong it's storage. In general, those "referigerators" are good at keeping something cool, but they do not have the power to cool something down.

Second, as atinkerbellmom says, EMB is good for hours at room temperature (I had heard 6 to 8 hours, but then again the time varies with every "expert" you consult).

If you don't want to deal with an extra referigerator in the way, your cabin steward should be able to get you plently of ice. The thing we did was to bring a box of ziplocs, pump, and place the bottle in a ziploc filled with ice and place that in the existing referigerator. The ice was enough to cool the milk to prolong its shelf life and filling the sink with hot water was enough to warm it back up.

Thanks for the advice. We do go by the 10 hour rule. But if I had any extra which I usually do I don't want it to go to waste. I'm one of those lucky ones that has a huge supply. It doesn't matter when I pump I get at least 5oz but sometimes up to 10oz. The ziploc baggies is a great idea and I think we'll do that.

Last year when I was getting married my sister was still breast feeding. She got a note from her babies doctor saying they needed a "Real Fridge" for medical reasons and when they got to thier room they did have one! It was sent in with the medical forms. Hope this helps!

We use to bring a rolling collapsible cooler that the room steward would keep filled with ice to keep beverages cold but the last 2 years since they upgraded the fridges we haven't needed the cooler. You can put room tempature water in and it will get cold. I don't think I would trust the fridge in the stateroom for baby's milk but they have been improved from years past.
