Reflections still in the works?

I know it sounds like the project has been cancelled, but I was looking back at an email I received from disney on 12/20/20 giving me a room voucher to makeup for a serious screwup they made, and in the resorts excluded section, reflections is still on there. I know it could just be some corporate stuff they forgot to remove, but it gives me hope

I have no inside information, my guess it is put on the back burner for now. They did put in some money on plans and actually started work on the site. Might be put off for a few years and maybe scaled down some.

They have to build another property. That one was already started and in the works. Sold (as in already being pitched), and people liked it conceptually. No reason whatsoever to re-invent that wheel once cash flow allows it/makes sense again.

I think it´s on hold till their bottom line looks better. They have invested so much into so far, and they will be building again when they are able.

I do not think this will be first on their list. That land between the Floridian and MK where the new path has been completed looks like a sure bet hit if they built a DVC. Reflections may end up going the way of the Persian Resort.

I think if it had have been a DVC only resort the chances would be higher that they would have continued. With it also having the hotel side I think they just don't want to be adding deluxe room inventory on the cash side of things. My guess is that they either wait a few years for demand to increase or they redesign to be DVC only.

East of the waterway? You must be seeing something there I can't see. There's just not enough there to put any sort of building, much less the amenities it would require for support. And there's parking and access. The problem west of the waterway is that I'm pretty sure it's designated as unbuildable so far as conservation land goes. I may be wrong on that but I think I remember that. Even if it weren't, there's the challenges of being on the outside of the monorail loop. Sure, the problem can be worked and remedied, but at what cost? A resort there would be suicidal without resort monorail access, and I doubt we'll ever see another "thru" monorail resort like the Contemporary is. It's important to remember that was built with the added benefit of the monorail not being in daily use at the time and actually, at the beginning; being built concurrently with the resort. IF they ever build another monorail resort, I'd be much more inclined to think it would be inside the monorail loop between TTC and the Contemporary. I believe that was the site proposed originally for the Persian. I know something was originally planned there.

We're all just speculating for fun as it is. But it is fun to try to guess right. P&R has always had a soft spot for where Reflections was being built, and it's a pretty nice piece of land and I doubt it's going to waste any longer now that the old waterpark is finally cleaned up. Something's going to happen over there. Only time will tell us whether it will be DVC or just another hotel. Personally, my belief is that we'll never see another deluxe resort built that doesn't at least have a DVC component, and certainly anything with that kind of proximity to MK is going to be a deluxe resort. Just thinking out loud for fun.

I'm not sure I even realized/remembered it was not DVC only. Interesting observation. I bet you're right. I bet negotiations are going on right now to make it DVC only and that's probably what actually held the whole thing up, truth be known. On the other hand, selling it to P&R as a DVC only resort is going to be a hard sell for anything with that kind of MK access. I doubt the hotel side of things is going to give up that revenue stream easily without a fight, even if they aren't ready right now.

Possibly it will go the way of the Eagle Pines Resort, a major, 600-unit, DVC resort announced in July 2001 to be built on land where the Osprey Ridge and Eagle Pines golf courses were (now occupied by Four Seasons). Then came 9/11. DVC never mentioned the resort again, including never mentioning that it was not going to happen. Instead, the next relevant building announcement that came after 9/11 was to build Saratoga Springs (where the Disney Institute was, which resort was closed shortly after 9/11).

The resort would not be east - west along the path, but north south. Being so close to MK you would not need a Monorail stop, plus it would be equal distant between MK and Florida stops. This is not my idea, there have been several websites that have speculated on this land, which is not part of the Conservation and is considered some of the best land available for building that is not already used. I have read and seen some of the designs of the foot print-STRICTLY speculative. It is just too valuable not to be used. The only pause is that there are some who believe if MK wants to expand-it would be out towards this land (although it would be expensive as you would have to move the Water treatment plant).

I could see them returning to the original plan at some point. The ranch is completed and theme was complimentary to reflections. So with infrastructure started and would guess a good portion completed, it would be easy to pick up where they left off. Curious if the construction design release was extended. Usually, with any inactivity, they seed any disturbed area for erosion control. So that isn’t an issue why the site was seeded.

There is plenty of land there west of the waterway. It is prime build able land. Probably enough to put all of the GF there. I don’t see it as DVC though. I see it as a new top of the line super luxurious hotel. The GF is nice, but it cannot compare to new luxury hotels that have been built. Disney spent a lot of money building a road and the walking path, with no return right now. There has to be a plan to recoup that investment. Also let’s not forget Reflections was a cash/DVC resort/ similar to BWV/BWI. One side was for cash bookings and the other side DVC.

What was the Persian resort ?
It was one of the 5 original design resorts. They were all supposed to be on the monorail. The Persian resort was supposed to be built on the land north of Bay Lake Tower was later built. The lot is cleared and is used for storage. The monorail was originally designed to go through Tomorrow Land to get to the Persian resort then go down to the Contemporary.

Here is a drawing I circled the Persian resort in red. The others in yellow. The Grand Floridian sits where the Asian resort was to be built. And the Venetian resort was supposed to be built between the TTC and the Contemporary, but the land there is very poor and would costs lots of money to build on it.
