Refillable Mugs

I bet what happens is, they get a lot of people walk over from Epcot to fill up a mug each time they visit Epcot, so they're trying to have it be only for BC/BCV guests.

Wow, would some people actually bother to do this - I have better things to do with my time while I'm in Epcot

People get so cranky of this topic.
And I'm one of them. Mainly because I believe stealing to be wrong.

It doesn't matter how much money Disney earns on soft drinks. It doesn't matter if it's only stealing a little bit. It doesn't matter if you can get away with it. It's stealing and it's wrong.

I'm not angry about this, I'm more amazed and amused that people are so casual about stealing. Principles are principles. If you think stealing is wrong, then you shouldn't steal regardless of the dollar value involved or how easy it is to get away with it.

::MickeyMo Exactly. I can't believe people would take the time to get there (I know it's not that far, but still) just to save a couple of dollars? ::MinnieMo

Principles are principles.
::yes:: Personal integrity is something many people take very seriously, both in terms of their own personal integrity, as well as the impact on society from the lack of personal integrity on the part of others.

I have actually had a VWL mug on my tray at Allstar Resorts when I purchased food and nothing was said at all. I just picked up the wrong mug that trip. I have never had anyone say anything about refilling the mugs. As a rule, I don't use from one resort to another because I have a mug for almost every resort. I think most CM's don't really care. It isn't their business to be the mug police :rotfl: Just MHO

I believe integrity is very important. This is kind of off topic with the post but it does have to do with stealing.

At work this morning when I got up to go to the bathroom I saw some money laying by my cubicle. I work early and there are hardly any other workers there and there was no one around so I picked up the money and put it in my pocket. When I looked to see how much cash it was I noticed it was $15 which is a decent chunk of change to lose.

Well, I wasn't going to go around asking everyone if they lost money (i believe there are a lot of people that would say yes, when it wasn't theirs). I instead told my boss when he got in and asked him what I should do. He emailed a lady in human resources and she had actually been contacted by a girl in the mailroom who had lost the money already that morning.

My boss asked me if I wanted to go and return it but I told him he could do it. He said the girl was so happy that someone actually turned her money in. Part of the reason I picked it up was because I knew that most people would just pick it up and keep it.

Anyway, I believe in karma and knew it was the right thing to do. I was happy that we found the money's rightful owner. Had the cash not been claimed I would have donated the money to our breast cancer fundraising.

With that said, I went to pofq with dh the last two summers. Each time we bought a mug each. I don't know that taking pop in an old mug is that big of a deal. I just prefer to follow the rules.

That's true....however, at my last stay at POR, in June, I saw at least 15 of the DxL style mugs in use at the food court. I have seen many mugs being used at different refill spots that were not bought where they were being refilled. All my mugs from my trips in the last 4 years have wording on them to the effect that refills are for the lenght of this stay and at the place it was purchased. Now, have I ever seen anyone being stopped for using an 'inappropriate' mug? Never. Not a word said to those people filling up their McD cups from the world series, or soda bottles.

That was my experience at POR also! I was shocked at the mug abuse! I even saw someone filling up one of the super huge, like... gallon size mugs you get at a gas station. :earseek: There were many, many Dixie Landings mugs.

My feeling is when people abuse the system, something will change. Don't be surprised when Disney discontinues the program or enforces the rules, and those of you that think it's okay to steal, don't complain. Justifying it by saying you see others do it doesn't make it right or appropriate. That's what children say when they are trying to get away with something.

Unfortunately, Disney has (and likely will again) responded to abuses of its leniency and/or generosity, and when they are forced to do so, it doesn't simply result in "justice" achieved, but rather typically includes a layer of overhead to ensure consistent compliance, which we all have to pay for. So lack of integrity by some often leads to punishment of all, and that's what upsets many people so much.

I'm one of those people that actually would like it if Disney did something about the 'mug abuse'. Wouldn't it be nice if you could bring back an old mug, from any resort and get a barcode sticker on it that entitled you to refills? I would pay for that. You wouldn't see people trying to steal the soda because it would be activated by that barcode. I have, at last count, about 17 of the stupid things. My dh has told me no more, even though I try to rotate them for my morning coffee. If they instituted a barcoding system I could 'legally' reuse mine and not have to worry about dh's wrath when I got home with yet another mug!!!!

but... they have no way of knowing unless they have changed the look of the mugs. We brought mugs to WL that we bought last year. We were only staying 2 nights there and didn't see the need to buy new ones. We then moved to POR and bought new ones there....

Of course if the mugs are the same then they have no way of knowing. Of course I could never do it. I'd rather pay the measley $12 and have a clean conscience but hey, what do I know.

It's called higher prices. Mugs have gone up and I sure other food items in the food court as well.

I always find it amusing that the people who try to justify the savings from reusing an old mug, even though they know the new policy, seem to forget that Disney is not going to lose money.

So as Bicker stated when many ask why do I even care what they do, I care because it cost me money for them to take something they have not paid for.

It is also very sad that it would take strong arm enforcement by Disney for adults to do what is right and just purchase a new mug each trip.

Guess I'll have to store all my existing mugs with all my 50 or so popcorn containers and get new mugs from now on. I am now shamed for using my VWL mug at Allstar..............

Here's my funny refillable mug story. When I stayed on site for the first time (in 1999, at Dixie Landings), we (3 adults, 3 kids) bought them. We were there for about a week, and we'd get coffee/juice in the morning, soda at night. At the end of our stay, we didn't have enough room in our suitcases and we threw them away. I've always wondered if someone took them out of the garbarge, washed them & is still using them today!

And for the record, yes I buy a new one each trip. I'm using my latest every day for my soda at work. It brings back the memories of the trip.
