Refillable Mugs

:drinking1 To re-buy or to re-use does make for spirited discussion. There are probably a gozillion Disney mugs floating around out there. Personally, I'll admit I'm rather a tightwad but I really think Disney is a vacation bargain in many ways. And, I don't think anyone here would disagree when I say Disney's biggest bargains are (1) the Mickey rain ponchos and (2) the souvenir refillable mugs. Like another poster said, they (the cups) make great souvenir gifts for those sad unfortunates who had to stay at home. :drinking1

I, unfortually, don't have any mugs :(

My next trip will be my first onsite and I'm so looking forward to getting ours! I do have a great popcorn container from MK. I use it all the time when I go away to keep snacks/popcorn in. Can't wait to get another one of those...

With the new generic refillable mugs that can be used at all the resorts, this brings a new question. If you are eating at a restaurant at one of the resorts, can you take your filled mug in with you? Or is that just too tacky?

I have 2 WL mugs (they look exactly the same except one says good only for length of stay and one is good "forever" but I'm not that much of a tightwad :)), 2 POR mugs, 2 Poly mugs, and 1 CSR mug. I use them on road trips and sometimes at home and work. I also love to use them on my way to WDW to get me in the mood! :)

But I would love some sort of sticker program where you bring the mug to the register and for like $5-8 they put a sticker on for the whole trip. :thumbsup2

Under the new rules with the generic mugs if someone was dinning at a Resort restaurant and wanted a soda when they left, they could use the generic mug at that Resort because they say on them good at all Good at all Resort Beverage Island Stations or something like that. Besides since the mugs are the same design no one would know where they were purchased and now WDW is encouraging guests to use these mugs at other Resorts.

I personally believe WDW knew guests were using the Resort design mugs at other Resorts besides the ones where they purchased them, so they used the Year Of A Million Dreams as a marketing campaign to sell generic mugs good at all the Resorts.

We bought 5(2 our first year, 3 the 2nd) mugs from ASMo. They get infrequent usage here at home. I consider them mementos from our trip.

I thought they just switched to a generic All Stars Music/Sports/Movies to use at only those resorts. I don't think they have implemented a completely generic mug for all of the resorts. I may be wrong but this is what I thought I read. Of course, I'm not really hip to all things going on at WDW. ;) :)

Wow, I had no idea they even started that! (obviously :rotfl: ). Interesting. :scratchin

We have two sets from Poly and POR and at least one set from all the others except for CR and GF. I use them at home quite often.

I have always been amazed at the passion in these thread but this is the first time I have posted. The policy is stated pretty clear but I don't care what other people do. To continue the speeding comparison, the action is between the police and the other driver. As a civilian it is not up to me to arrest people going too fast. So since I am not a Disney cop I may be amused when I see people using non-regulation mugs it is up to Disney to do something about it. I am not convinced that this happens so much that it affects the cost of the mugs. I think Disney sets a price that people will pay. If they try to mark up the price too much to compensate I will just stop buying them.

As for people doing this, the cost may be a drop in the bucket compared to their total vacation price but it is a psychological thing. That little thing makes it feel better and there are lots of ways to justify it. Personally if we fly to Florida I will buy the mugs but if we drive we bring our own soda and drink in the room. We have enough mugs at home and $12 will buy soda for even me to have enough to drink for a week.

I have over 50 mugs in a cabinet in my basement and I've given a lot away. We've been going to WDW 1-4 times a year for 12 years now. I buy 4, 5 if my DD brings a friend. My husband wants me to throw them away and when I buy new ones he gives me a look :rotfl: I think mugs are a good value and a nice souviner. I've brought mugs back a few times until the current signs were put in place. I did over hear a cashier at CBR this Feb. tell a man that he could bring the mugs back and use them 'forever' when he asked about them; he said 'look at all the old ones out there' and waved towards the dining area. I bought the new mugs at SSR in April, but really with the dining plan we only needed them for coffee. :)

I have toooooo many mugs! I am glad that they went with a generic! Only thing is, they look like they are winter :confused3 When I first got it this trip, I really thought it was left over from the winter and they decided to use them as resort beverage mugs :rotfl: Wonder how this will now work when you are doing a split stay? Generic mug.. can be used at any resort, you are still on your same stay... where as before you go from one hotel to the other, by rights you should be purchasing a different mug from each food court.

ps, I do re-use the mugs that were the lifer mugs.. when I purchased some of them, moons ago, they were for life and I am using what was sold to me. I have been seen by CM's and have gotten smiles. There is nothing illegal about using the mugs that were origianlly sold under that program.

Hmmm, let's see. We have 6 from CBR, 3 from GF, 3 from Polynesian (we'll be adding 3 more in two months) and approx. 10 from the Contemporary.

My wife and I get mugs every trip. For 12$ you can't beat it. Every morning we walk down to get coffee (where ever we are staying at the time) usually have 3-4 cups, and walk around the resort looking at the scenery and architecture. Then the mugs get packed for home where we use them when ever we have a party. Kids especially like them when we have summer pool parties and if anything happens to them we have plenty in stock as replacements.

DH and I have 5 mugs. We had 6 but one is MIA. 1 From PO and 4 form WL. For me when I'm on vacation I really don't wanna fight about a mug so we always buy new ones. This year I'm sure we will buy 2 more from POR.
