Hi guys! We just booked our vacation for CBR June29-July 8. Can't wait- I think it's the only thing that helps me live with all the cold and snow! My question is this- we've been to the CBR twice in the last 1 1/2 years and I'd like to use the same mugs again. Does anyone know if they've been changed recently? I know it appears to be chintzy, but how many more of the mugs cn we own? Besiseds, I'd like to spend the money on new, useless stuff. Thanks for your help.:earsgirl:

I have heard that there are now signs up that say "Good only during current stay" or something like that? Yet I have heard others say the when they originally purchased their mugs they were told they were good forever.

There is a huge and rather funny thread on this on the budget board!

To me it comes down to what you were told when you bought your mugs.

Either way Enjoy your Disney stay!

They have changed since you purchased your mugs. I have pictures of the current mugs up on my website.

There is also a sign stating that the mugs are good for the length of stay when you purchased the mugs. This is also printed right on the mug.

Be ready for a wide range of responses on this topic.

We have used previous years mugs EVERY year since 2000 and never a problem.

Some will tell you "you MUST" buy new ones....others, like me, will tell you use your old ones.

But when we visited CBR last August, we noticed the year was printed on the mug.

If we stay anywhere else besides POR, POFQ, CSR, or the All-stars ...we would buy new mugs. BUT we don't stay anywhere else but POR....so we don't buy new mugs.

Not only is this a hot debate on the budget boards it is in my house too! DH does not like that he paid $40 for mugs. We did use them for 9 days and we got our moneys worth of drinks. He feels like we should use them anyway. WE will NOT be doing that. We will invest another $40 this time around and then we get back from the WL in November, we will build a cabinet to display them in! LOL

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!

just today I pulled out our mugs from AKL, AS-movies, AS-music, POFQ, and CB I'm going to let my DD3 use them instead of Sippy cups as a step between a true big girl glass. She thinks its a great idea. she only likes the AKL and all-star ones since she remembers using them at WDW.

The poor thing we have forced her to go to WDW three times since last April. LOL

They're is a fine print on the guide in the rooms that say the mugs are only good for the length of stay they were purchased. i realise will spark an arguement. But if you are going to be upset because people take a mug from say AKL and then use it at pop century, like i saw on my last trip, then you should be upset that people would use their old mugs on their next trip. It the same thing. but thats my opinion and if you want to flame me go right ahead.

No flame from me - my sentiments exactly. We just got back from WL and I couldn't believe the people filling mugs from All Stars, FW and old WL mugs, and right over them was a huge sign with a picture of the current WL mug and the refill policy. I'm sorry, but I just don't understand why someone would pay so much for a Disney vacation and then try to get a few free sodas out of Disney. We personally buy new mugs every visit.

So far the person that takes the cake in that department was the person that DMRick witnessed filling a bread wrapper bag with Coke, unmolested by CMs, on her last trip. So, under WDW's defacto "Free Soft Drinks for All Guests" program you don't even need to take up valuable packing space with your old mugs!

Maybe this is a silly idea from me:D , but if all people use their refillable mugs for years doesn't the price of a new one only get more expensive?
Or maybe someone says one day : this refillable mug idea at WDWresorts is a very fraudulous thing, lets skip them.
Let the guests buy new soda each time so that we can make some money instead of giving soda's away.
There is a thread for buying mugs at internetauctions, I don't believe this. They say Dutch people are cheap, but this:mad:

We stayed at the CR the past 2 years & bought new mugs each time, however, my brother did not buy new ones, he just brought his back. He had no problem as they were the same both years.

Having said that, if I could have been sure they would be the same mugs then I would have brought my old ones back. (I think!) However, because I didn't know I didn't want to risk being embarrassed by being told I couldn't use my mug & had to purchase a new one. :o

I guess it's a just a matter of what your conscience allows you to do. I think I would just put it in the budget & purchase the new mugs, but that's JMO! :D

A BREAD WRAPPER BAG??? The person was THAT desperate for a drink??? The castmembers were probably too shocked or laughing too hard to say something to the person LOL. I wonder if the drink made it back to the room intact.

Here's what DMRick saw on her last trip:
I do have to admit, that I usually pay no attention, since I could care less what others do, but after all the posts recently, I have to admit I was really curious this trip...howly cow!! They fill everything from the largest gulp mugs I've ever seen (these were humongeous!), right down to tiny ketchup cups, to rinsed out milk containers. The most intersting, was watching several girls filling a bunch of baby bottles..next only to the person filling an empty bread bag..how were they going to drink it??!! Oh, prob with the straws. I did get into a friendly conversation with a gal as we watched the bread bag get filled. She was agast that people would steal the soda and put it into a bread bag...as she filled her own bag with butter and jelly to spread on her "brought from home" bread, to go along with her tea bags she was grabbing LOL. Oh, she doesn't buy the mugs, since they give her paper cups to get water with, and she just uses those for the soda...but as she said "they know about that" when you request the cups. She was very entertaining.

So you can clearly see that there's no need to even pretend that you've purchased mugs nowadays at the WDW resorts with drink islands. Things like Doris' observations make the whole "mug debate" a moot point and seem a little silly to me.

O.K., so the breadbag story has me laughing at how crazy and cheap people can be (how much pride do you trade for that breadbag full of soda????)

But now here is my mug dilema:
We are staying only 3 nights at ASMo, then we are checking into VWL for another 5nights. I would have to buy mugs twice in one trip if it was going to be "by the book". Maybe that is why you see people with mugs from other resorts? It seems fair to me that I would use that same mug for my entire vacation....

I would have to buy mugs twice in one trip if it was going to be "by the book".
The hypothetical answer is "Yes". Some have reported that the food court at the 2nd resort was more than happy to exchange the mugs from their 1st resort for a "proper" set. But chaos reigns and you can do whatever you want.

Holy crap, a bread bag. Now I thought I had heard it all about the soda taking. I've seen the big gulp mugs, the paper cups, the beer bottles, and the car travel mugs, and even directly into the person's mouth, but yes a bread bag has to take the cake on this one. They must have been pretty sure that it didn't have a hole in it. And here I am paying my $11.99 plus tax for a new mug each time, even if I'm just staying overnight! Oh well, unless they post a mug policeman by the soda fountain turning people away, there's not much they can do I guess. And it's probably more expense than it's worth to try and develop a special length-of-stay barcoding system in their software and retrofit all the soda dispensers with scanners. Software development is very, very expensive, especially for something custom as this would be, as I work in the capital projects department of a business, and see the invoices for this kind of work. So it would be considered a large investment compared to the soda operation as it is now, and Disney would have to be losing some bucks to consider doing that. So I guess Geoff is right, Disney has decided not to do much on this issue, so why should we argue about it anymore. People who want to feel like they're following the rules will buy the mugs, and people who don't care, won't.

If you follow that policy, then you are not breaking the rules. It's like when a company gives you lifetime support on a computer, and then changes their policy a few years later, and tries to charge you for support - they can't do that.

When we bought our mugs on our first few trips, we were told we could bring them back on subsequent trips for more refills. That said, we have Dixie Landings cups, but we can no longer use them - there is no Dixie Landings (technically). It sucks, as I love those mugs!!! We haven't bought mugs lately, as we have been staying at OKW or Ft. Wilderness most of the time, or using vouchers for our meals. If I went to a resort and purchased a mug now, I would abide by the policies at the time of purchase.

To bad they don't have a policy similar to the water parks. You can bring back your old mugs as often as you want, however, you buy a sticker for say, 1/2 price.

Bring back old mug, put sticker on, get "legal" soda/coffee. Heck, I'll bet people would even have "competitions" to see who's mug has the most stickers.

How could anyone argue at paying $6. Most people stay 7-8 days. That's less than a dollar a day.

I agree with Kimberle that is a really good idea!::yes::

I, too, have old mugs that I would not bring back for refills, even though they were bought under the grandfather clause. They are just so old and used looking that I would be embarrassed to be seen with them outside of my own backyard. However, this will be the first year that we will be resort hopping (staying at three different resorts in a week). I never thought about having to buy a new mug for each stay. Who would you take them to about exchange? And what if you actually liked the design of one mug better than another? Hmmm...this may open a whole new can of worms!
