Our first trip to WDW. We are staying at OKW. Do they have refillable mugs? If so where do I get them refilled? Can you take the refillable mugs into the parks or do they have their own? Thanks

Here's the details: http://www.wdwig.com/mugs.htm

The good news is OKW's mugs are cheaper than other resorts, the bad news is that the refills aren't free. They are only good at the resorts and the theme parks do not have a refillable mug program.

Personally, if you want them as souviners then I'd buy them. (We have sets from PO and WL.) But we've come to the conclusion that it's a lot cheaper to stop at a Publix/Wal-Mart or someplace else and buy your own cans of soft drinks. Plus, you can buy what you like best if it isn't a Coke product.

Another thought - If you are planning on going to the water parks (Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon) you can take your resort mugs there. You do have to buy a bar code sticker at the water park which allows you to get as many refills as you want (on that day only) at their drink refill stations. It was cheaper to buy the bar code sticker than to buy another refillable mug at the water parks. We did this last summer. It was not advertised at the water parks, but we had read that you could do that on these boards. We took our mugs & asked the CM at the food stand, & sure enough you could! :D

HI! We are going to Disney this coming week! And we are also staying at the Old Key West! I was also interested in the refillable mugs since we have children etc.. So I can post when I return and let you know the scoop!

Both last August and October, OKW had seasonal refillable mugs for about $11 that did not cost anything to refill. The summer mug had Lilo and Stitch and the fall mug had Bug's Life. You have to drink a lot of soda to make it work! LOL But I think I did!

But with a refrigerator (at the least, if not a full kitchen) at OKW, you can refill your own glasses with stuff you buy at home or at the grocery store.

I hadn't heard about this before. Do you know how much the bar code sticker is?

Sorry, I don't remember excatly how much it was ~ maybe someone who else does. I think it was around $5 which was about half of what it would have cost to buy a refillable mug at the water parks.

You cannot use a resort mug at BB and TL. You have to buy a refillable mug from the WATERPARK and then buy a bar code at your next visit to get refills. I WISH you could use an old resort mug at the waterparks and just buy a bar code but it is not allowed!

We did this using our Polynesian Resort mugs on our trip last June at both Bllizzard Beach & Typhoon Lagoon. We simply asked at the food stands & had the CM's gladly issued us a bar code for our Polynesian mugs at a cheaper price. I knew to ask about it from reading these boards, so others must have done it as well. It may not be highly publicized, but it certainly was allowed when we were there.

OK! I'm back! OKW is beautiful no flaws! Very family oriented! They have a pool for every section I believe there is three or four pools! We were in a Grand Villa! The mugs that they offer are $4.95 plus tax with the tax I believe it comes to $5.53! and refills are $1.65 plus tax with the tax it comes to $1.80! They did not have the $10.99 refillable mug I asked at lots of places around there ! The grounds are Huge! But ask before you buy the $4.95 mug because maybe they offer it at certain times! It is a white mug with greenish color lid and it says Disney Vacation Club has mickey head and a palm tree pretty mug! But if that is the only mug they have when you go it is worth it! because the small soda they sell at goodings is like $2.23 plus tax I believe so you will still save money if you're going to be there for a week or so!
If you have any questions feel free to ask in case I forgot something! It os a gorgeous place! Saff is very friendly! Ifyou get youre hoppers there you get 10% off being a dvc member! The main pool area is directly behind check in and olivias ! Goodings is right by the pool area along with like a shower room area and a gym that is free access! It was like in the high 80's own there one day I bet it was about 90! Hope you have fun also!

Thanks so much for all the info. We are not going till July and we can't wait. Everyone on this board has been so helpful. You mentioned Goodings. Is Goodings a grocery store? We are getting a 1 bedroom villa. I am bringing a suitcase with some food in it but will need to buy parishables. We will need a store close by and hopefully not too expensive. Thanks again for your help.

I am bringing a suitcase with some food in it

Be prepared for your food to be gone over fully, if it's in a checked bag. They'll put a note in it telling you they checked it. Some of the food makes the alarms go off, so they have to check it out. They checked ours out (hot chocolate and hot cereal) on the rack before we checked in, and then there was another note in the suitcase, and all our baggies were unzipped that had food in them. We didn't eat it, since we didn't know who touched it..even though it was sealed. Just made us uncomfortable. The food we put in our carry-ons was fine, and they said that was the suggested way. I don't know what I was thinking when I packed the other stuff..just wasn't I guess, since I knew better.

As far as mugs, yes you can use your resort mugs at BB if you pay for the sticker. Someone sitting next to us at the pool at Allstars had the sticker (2 weeks ago) and I asked what it was, and she said they put it on her resort mug for refillable drinks at BB.

No goodins is just a lil stand that has to go stuff like soda coffee potatoe chips ! The souviner store Conch flats right across from check in and next to Olivias has some refrigerated things like milk etc.. I know a bottle of water dasani was 2.50! So I would assume it's not so cheap! We went off grounds to I think it's called Goods it's a grocery store and they also have Publix grocery store if you have you're car if not I'm not to sure I'm sure you could get a cab but it might be cheaper to buy at their price at that rate! Unless you have youre own vehicle! You have to take the water taxi from okw to downtown disney it runs every 20 minutes it's a nice ride and no stops!

Some of the towncar services will do a grocery stop at Publix on the way from the airport. We are using Cartier and they told us to take as long as we needed.

DMRick - thanks for the info on food in checked bags. This will definitely change our plans.
